Rainforest project

Have you ever wanted to go to the rainforest? Well, I’ve never been but with this book you can learn so much about the rainforest that you will feel like you have actually been there. The rainforest you will learn about is the Amazon Rainforest. Countries located in the rainforest are Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, 1

Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. The hemispheres are North West, and South West .The latitude and longitude range is 80-15 south and 45West-75East. Before I get in to the story let me tell you what a rainforest is, it is a tropical forest usually of tall densely growing broad leaves evergreens trees in an area of high annual rainfall. Do you know what the “emergent layer” is? Well if you don’t then read this. The emergent layer is at the top of 1

the rainforest .Some animals that are on this layer are eagles, monkeys, bats, and butterflies. one plant is a broad leaved evergreen. Do you know what the “Forest Floor” is? If not I’ll tell you what it is it is the bottom of the forest where most of the animals live. Some animals are jaguar, anacondas, and anteaters. Some plants are the venous fly trap, foliage (leaves). Do you know what the “Canopy” is? The canopy is Under the Emergent layer. Some animals that live in the canopy 1

are snakes, toucans, and tree frogs. Some plants are trees with smooth oval leave. Do you know what the “understory layer” is? The understory layer is above the forest floor. Some animals in the understory layer are jaguars, red eyed frogs. Some plants are grasses, trees. The first animal I will tell you about is the Spider monkey. The Spider Monkey is large in size and has a very powerful tail. Spider Monkeys habitat is in the 1

tropical rainforest of central and South America. The spider monkey is a herbivore. Some things that Spider Monkeys get eat by are pumas and jaguars. Spider Monkeys find food in tops of trees food they find are nuts, and fruit. An adaption that a Spider Monkey has is its tail it uses its tail to swing from tree to tree to find food.

The other animal I will tell you about is the boa constrictor, it is a large 1

snake, and it is the most distinctive reptile. The boa constrictor uses camouflage to hide from its predators and prey. The boa constrictor is a single organism. The boa constrictor is indigenous to the rainforest. A boa constrictor is a carnivore. Their habitat is tropical central and South America. The boa constrictor is a predator because it hunts for food. Their prey is, birds, mice, and other small animals. An adaption that the boa constrictor has is it blends in with its surroundings.

The first plant I’m going to tell you about is the Brazil Nut Tree. The brazil nut tree gives off foliage or leaves off of a plant. They are brown on the outside and white on the inside. People use Brazil nuts for oil and food. Plants use photosynthesis to bloom and grow. The other plant I’m going to tell you about is moss. Moss is a decomposer to dead plants and animals. Moss is green and moist. People use moss to keep stuff moist. The first tribe I will tell you about is the yonomami. They live 1

in 8.2 acres of land. They live in large, circular communal houses called gonasor shabonas. Another tribe I will tell you about is the machigunga. They live off the land around them. They have a community just like ours. They use all of their resources for food. These tribes have culture. Culture means traditions such as clothing and celebrations. Today, we are in risk of loosening the rainforest because of deforestation. Deforestation is the cutting down of trees the reason they are doing this is for 1

paper and other products. We could plant more trees to save the rainforest.

Conservation is planting more trees, make protection areas bigger, recycle more and the people that conserve help the rainforest not go instinct. We need more ecotourism. Ecotourism 1

is taking vacation, or visiting a place without disrupting that places natural environment, going to enjoy nature.

This is my food web. A food web tells what eats what and how energy flows This is my climate map. Climate is prevailing weather conditions of a region. The yellow area is the dessert climate zone. The red area is the tropical wet climate zone. The pink is the tropical dry climate zone. The orange area is the mediterranean climate zone. The gray area is the highland climate zone. The green area is the humid subtropical climate zone. The blue area is the marine west coast climate zone. The yellow1

orange area is the steppe climate zone. This is a land cover map. The light green represents the deforested area. The dark green represents rainforest area. Now you know a lot about the rainforest. Don’t it feel like you are here? Maybe someday you can come and visit the Amazon Rainforest.
