ACTION PLAN 1. Essential Action/Research-Based Strategy: The Polk Team will address the instructional deficits of all students by utilizing research based instructional strategies and programs to increase students’ overall academic performance. In addition to Tier I small group differentiated instruction during the reading and math blocks, teachers and specialists will use the 30 minute Intervention/Enrichment block, 5 times per week to provide Tier 2 and 3 instructional support. Grade level teams will meet weekly with the Administrative Teams, Instructional Coaches and Resource Teachers to assess students’ progress.

What is the evidence driving the need for this essential action? Student Performance Data- Running Records, PALS data, MAP Growth data, WIDA ACCESS for ELs, and Teacher Observations. The mode of instruction used to support students from March 2020- August 2021 has impacted students’ overall academic performance.

Status Options: (1) Completed, (2) Completed-Ongoing, (3) In Progress ● What is the evidence that this Research-Based Strategy will improve outcomes? Data-driven, small group intervention is proven to meet students’ instructional needs more effectively than whole group instruction not driven by data. It is even more impactful when instruction is periodically adjusted based on progress monitoring and data analysis completed in CLT meetings. What is the Plan to Assess Progress? Running Records, MAP Growth assessments, Informal Assessments and Teacher Observations

Reading EA/RBS 1 ● This plan reflects the thorough systems of a school invested in providing students with the differentiated interventions they need. It also reflects strong systems for the important work of observation and feedback by coaches, interventionists, and administrators. I wonder what opportunities might arise for gathering evidence toward progress to reflect not only student performance data, but also of teacher practice data (i.e. lesson study; teachers engaged in observation of instruction with one another), in providing opportunities for teachers to learn from and provide feedback to one another. ● The Action Steps primarily focus on monitoring instruction/interventions, while the EA focuses on implementation of research based interventions. The EA appears to contain multiple Essetial Actions. Which component is the primary focus? ● Is the EA teacher-facing to monitor fidelity and rigor of instruction of Tier 1 instruction or Tier 2 & 3 interventions? What are the research based interventions referenced?

Math EBA/RBS 2 ● EA/RBS is rooted in best practices, small group instruction to support students with appropriate scaffolds to support intervention. How will the school focus on ensuring strong tier 1 instruction with scaffolds? ● Identify “Look Fors”/ rubric related to meeting notes and documents associated with processes to capture qualitative data to assess progress of action ● Revise EA to specify the primary Essential Action and refer other components of the text to “Action Steps” as appropriate. ● How does the strategy proposed differ from current practice? Is there an innovation or improvement related to small group instruction in math that enhances current practices to improve student outcomes ?

What is the evidence driving the need for this essential action? During the 2020-2021 School Year, ------ number of students missed ----- number of school days or more. In addition, students’ attendance this school year was inconsistent ● What is the evidence that this Research-Based Strategy will improve outcomes? When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and

chances for graduating. Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence. There is a direct correlation between students’ attendance in school and students’ overall academic performance.

What is the Plan to Assess Progress? The Social Worker, Registrar and the Administrative Team will meet weekly and analyze school-wide attendance reports in PowerSchool.
