HOW CRV WORKS STORY OF ACTIVE HAMS
HOW THE CRV TRAINING HELPED US SERVE BETTER DURING THE DISASTER TIMES IN KERALA & TAMILNADU International Film Festival Kerala
Around 20 volunteers including nine operators are on active duty across all nine theatre complexes screening the movies this year. The services offered by AARS-KL are entirely free of charges. This is also the first time that ham radio volunteers are being part of IFFK. Kerala Flood The rescue operations were conducted by the Armed forces, NDRF, State Police and Fire force and Civil volunteers, but the total breakdown of networks and telecommunication had completely hindered the rescue missions. The people who were trapped in their house was not able to contact anyone, even if they did the person they contact cannot pass the messages to any of the control room/rescue team due to network failure. That is the situation where the importance of Wireless Communication increases. Even though mobile phone and all the wired communication broke down, Ham Radio works smoothly. Our team had proven this effectively to the Kerala administration. The most notable place of Kerala flood was CHENGANNUR of Alleppy District. Total electrical failure and communication was the main problem there because of the fast rising water. Our team deployed a Wireless operation for search and rescue mission by assisting Kerala Fire Force and Odisha Fire rescue team. ARRS-KL is the CRV teams of Kerala Fire force. The mission had eased the rescue missions by us, providing intercommunication of rescue teams and administrative officers. Cyclone GAJA As per the request from district authorities Cuddallore, we were capable to mobilize our manpower and communication equipment with in the timeline from Kollam to Cuddallore district. We have setup 5 shelter stations during cyclone Gaja disaster.we have contributed our communication support to Cuddallore Collectorate in Tamil Nadu on November 2018. This was a first Inter state operation by a ham radio society from Kerala. This event was well appreciated by Tamil Nadu Government.
