BDA fundraiser fuels Rossi building project

Protecting our history is more important than ever in a constantly changing world, and keeping that nostalgia alive for the city’s older buildings requires ongoing work and substantial financial resources. RAISEUP Beaverton is a community-driven initiative by the Beaverton Downtown Association to enhance the vibrancy and cultural identity of downtown Beaverton through various projects. Their current focus is raising funds for a mural on the historic Rossi building.
Erected in 1916, the Fisher Rossi building was once a train station and more recently houses some of the area’s beloved local businesses. A focal point in the community and one of the city’s oldest landmarks, the relic is located at S.W. Broadway and S.W. Watson Street in the heart of downtown Beaverton. “It really reflects the city’s rich history and architectural heritage,” explains BDA Chair Kirsten Agard. “It’s been a cornerstone of downtown life for decades and helps connect our past to our present.”
The BDA is thrilled to announce this fundraising campaign. The goal is to organize the creation of a handpainted mural that will further beautify the historic urban space and continue to tell the story of the city’s history and culture. To make the project even more
exciting, local artists are invited to enter a contest and submit designs featuring Beaver and Beaver Town. Finalists will be selected by a donorled voting committee and the building owner to ensure a fun, collaborative and meaningful choice. The winner will be awarded a whopping $6,000 for their contribution!
RAISEUP Beaverton aims to raise approximately $20,000 to cover the artist’s fees, materials, installation and a protective graffiti shield, ensuring the mural remains a lasting asset to the community. Funds are being gathered through monthly donor campaigns, a community lottery and events like the mural contest. Supporters can also contribute by purchasing exclusive RAISEUP Beaverton merchandise or donating directly through the BDA. “We’re grateful to the local businesses contributing gift cards and merchandise,” says Kirsten, “and our monthly donors are the backbone of this project’s success.” Every contribution is important, regardless of size, as this effort is genuinely about uniting the community to celebrate a shared heritage.
The initiative aligns perfectly with the BDA’s mission to revitalize and beautify downtown Beaverton, creating a vibrant and welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors alike. “RAISEUP Beaverton is more than just a mural — it’s a symbol of what we can achieve together as a community,” Kirsten says. “Join us in making it happen!”
