partners. As a local bank, we understand being local matters most when it comes to supporting our community. We are proud to be a Benefit Corporation for Good, prioritizing the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

Q What keeps you motivated in your career?

I find immense satisfaction in making my clients happy and delivering more value than they initially thought possible. Seeing their success and knowing that I played a part in it drives me to continually improve and innovate in my work. I also want to be a positive example for my sons, showing them the importance of working hard and doing your best each day.

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

It’s hard to say just one accomplishment as there have been many meaningful career milestones. My time at the City of Salem, however, stands out as a pivotal period. It was my first opportunity to drive significant change, where I thoroughly researched and improved existing processes. One of my proudest achievements there was helping the City of Salem start accepting credit card payments for the first time.

Q Advice for young women in business?

Never give up. Even if your first job isn’t as exciting or prestigious as you imagined, remember every step is part of your journey. Stay professional, polished and true to yourself. Authenticity is powerful.

Working on our friends’ and neighbors’ cars. We decided early on not to advertise in the Yellow Pages but wanted our city — and then cities — to succeed. So we teamed up with all the sports

Kara Clarke

Kinetic Events & Co

Born and raised right here in Tualatin, Kara Clake, owner/event planner of Kinetic Events & Co, graduated from Oregon State with a degree in marketing and is an Alphi Phi sister for life. With her husband Nicholas, they have two fur babies: Luna, a Chihuahua-poodle-Maltese mix the couple rescued from the Meximutt Project, and Ivy, a Brittany spaniel. Kara is a member of the Tualatin and Sherwood Chambers of Commerce — last year she earned Volunteer of the Year for Tualatin. She got the bug for event planning after working as an administrative assistant and dipping her toes into the water of organizing retreats, leadership meetings and annual galas.

Q What exactly does your business do?

Kinetic Events & Co partners with businesses and nonprofits to create successful and memorable events by integrating your brand’s mission, vision and values into every aspect of the event. I handle all logistical aspects of event planning, alleviating stress from your team so you can focus on engaging with clients and employees. coordination, vendor oversight, on-site event execution, and even procurement of sponsorships and donations for some clients. I strive to make events unforgettable while helping clients build lasting relationships and enhancing their brand’s reputation in the community.

Q What keeps you motivated in your business?

I genuinely am passionate about my work. Being on-site at an event brings out the best in my professional self. I feel a deep connection with everyone present, and it’s incredibly rewarding to witness all the hard work come to fruition. The combination of excelling at something and feeling fulfilled while doing it is truly unparalleled.

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

I am most proud of the strong relationships and positive reputation I have built at such a young age, in both myself and my business. In just under two years, I have grown my business by over 500%, which is mostly attributed to the power of connections I have fostered.

Q Advice for young women in business?

If you’re hesitant about starting your venture due to imposter syndrome, just go for it. Many will tell you that you’re being reckless, that the economy is tough or question your job security, but the real question is, “Will this bring you happiness?” While having a plan is essential, remember we’re all navigating life as we go.

Vanessa Deets

A Branch & Cord

Born and raised in sunny Burbank, California, the owner of A Branch & Cord, Vanessa Deets, moved to the Portland area, where she is raising her three children, Alden, 11, Ophelia, 8, and Payton, 4, with her husband Zach. Before becoming a mom and entrepreneur, she was an executive assistant at Warner Bros Studios. Vanessa is on the board of The Vivian Lee Foundation, a nonprofit supporting people living with cystic fibrosis. She also has started volunteering with Apraxia Kids, which supports kids with motor speech disorders, like her youngest. She loves to dance, organize and chat with other small business owners, and play with her sweet tabbies, Bonne and Ella.

Q What exactly does your business do?

My team and I create colorful macrame accessories, jewelry, kits, rainbows and decor. A Branch & Cord products are sold online, in local pop-ups, and our products have been resold in over 600 shops worldwide. We also instruct rainbow workshops in the Portland Metro area and hope to offer new classes in 2025.

Q What keeps you motivated in your career/business?

Fun and different opportunities! I never would have dreamed of the things

I’ve been able to do once starting this business. Endless networking opportunities, flying across the country for events, being on local news station segments, being featured in publications and more. I love seeing where this business can take us.

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

Being able to hire local moms as independent contractors. It’s a great feeling being able to provide work and an income for moms looking to work flexible hours and earn alongside raising their children and busy lives.

Q Advice for young women in business?

Take every opportunity that comes your way. Even the ones that feel nervewracking. Every opportunity will help you grow. Be and show up as your true self in all aspects. People will relate to you more when they get to see the real you.

Q How would you describe your perfect day off?

Honestly, I don’t take days off because I love my work, and my work can always come alongside fun life happenings. But a wonderful example of this balance would be a trip to the beach with my family. I’m so content to sit in a beach chair knotting away with my macrame board in my lap, with my husband sitting next to me while my kids happily play in the sand and run with the waves.

Debbie Dille

Active Media Publishing Group

As a business development representative for Active Media Publishing, Debbie Dille helped bring this feature to life! Raised in Prineville, Oregon, she’s lived in many places, including London, where she earned the final piece of her Bachelor of Science degree in journalism. Now married to her husband, Dan Baltus, Debbie has two sons from a previous marriage, Joshua and Jake, both in their 30s, and two granddaughters. She has volunteered with HomePlate Youth Services and enjoys playing piano and singing, attending book club gatherings and hiking — when she can get away.

Q What exactly does your business do?

I’ve worked as a private contractor for several businesses over the last few years. Before the pandemic, I was the business manager for Pint-Sized Productions, handling event booth sales, prize procurement and client services. During COVID, I began working for Alluvial Beverage and Vertical Wine & Beer (now ECB Selections), selling to restaurants, pubs and retailers. I still do this, in addition to my most recent position as a business development rep for Active Media.

Q What keeps you motivated in your career/business?

I like working with people, and though I do wish to semi-retire soon to begin traveling with my husband, I would also like to stay busy and active with a profession.

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

In the early 2000s, when Trader Publications, a national chain of magazines, suddenly discontinued Metro Parent Magazine, the editor and her husband immediately purchased the office equipment and took control of business operations. I was one of two marketing reps who assumed all of the advertising sales, boosted the total revenue and kept things running without missing a beat. The next month’s issue came out right on schedule, and we displayed more advertising in the pages than we’d had in the six months prior, as our clients were so supportive and excited about the new management.

Q Advice for young women in business?

I still struggle to focus on daily progress and not obsess about obtaining perfection. Sales is a tough business that can take a toll on inner morale and self-confidence. So, effectively managing one’s time — particularly if working from home — is imperative, and focusing on accomplishing certain daily tasks is more to the point. Success will ultimately follow, even if it takes a little more time.

Q How would you describe your perfect day off?

Sleeping in until 7 a.m. and then sitting in my hot tub with a mocha, while feeding the neighborhood crows that fly over for a visit. I also like long walks with my husband and scenic drives in wine country. Sneakers

Julia Garriott, MBA

Your Mortgage Gal / CMG Home Loans

Born and raised in Colorado, Julia Garriott, MBA, a mortgage loan originator for CMG Home Loans, has lived in Seattle, New York and now nearby Beaverton. With her husband Robert, Julia has three children, Sebastien, Madi and JR, all now adults. She earned a bachelor’s from Washington State University and an MBA from George Fox University. She supports local groups such as Omega NW, Tualatin Riverkeepers, Breast Friends and Habitat for Humanity by attending charity events. Julia has been in the home loan business for 18 years and counting. She loves to travel, especially to the family’s casitas in Costa Rica. Her family remains her top priority, including Vayda, the family’s Australian cattle dog-pit bull mix. She also enjoys working out, relearning Spanish and playing anything competitive.

QWhat exactly does your business do?

I help people navigate home loans, taking the fear out of that process through communication and education. People who work with me say I’m responsive, supportive and genuinely care — which I do! I’m licensed in six states, including Oregon, California Washington, Arizona,

Idaho and Colorado. I can help with purchasing a primary home, second home, investment property, refinancing, rehab loans, principal first-paying loans and more. I’m committed and connected to small businesses. I do a “Saturday Shout,” during which I interview the owner and then share a reel on social media, including LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. Highlighting well over 100 local businesses, I have done this for over two years.

Q What keeps you motivated in your career/business?

A few things. First, when I help someone who never thought they would qualify to buy a home walk through the process of getting a home loan and witness their excitement and gratitude. Second, when I go to a signing, right before someone is getting the keys to their home, and I see the excitement, joy, nerves — all the emotions. This is especially powerful when it is someone’s first home. Lastly, when I get calls from people I helped many years ago, and they refer their children or other family members to me to help with a home loan.

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

To have stayed in the mortgage world for more than 18 years and be recognized as a leader, hardworking and a genuine person in this business.

Q Advice for young women in business?

Love what you do or you won’t stay in it very long. Provide value first. Work by referral and be consistent.

and inclusive culture, and focus on collaboration over competition is unique and has set a new standard for how women can network.

Q What keeps you motivated in your career/business?

I get a thrill seeing others breaking through their limitations and stepping into their potential, daring to dream big and making bold moves that will change their lives. I am also driven to push my own boundaries, and to keep learning and growing. These two things go hand in hand with why I began Women to Women in the first place, and why I can’t see myself stopping.

Q Advice for young women in business?

Step into the possible. Don’t be afraid to dream big. You may not know how to make the big idea come to life when you start, but you are more than capable of figuring it out. Trust that you’ve got this, and lean into what your possible can be. This was advice I received from a coach early on, and it made all the difference. When I stopped holding back, real growth began to happen and success followed. Also, know your “why” and stay true to your core values.

Q How would you describe your perfect day off?

My perfect day is one spent with my husband having an adventure. He taught me how to ski, encouraged me to take up scuba diving with him, introduced me to golf, and is willing to go on trips to new places, and explore and experience new things.

Zing Studio

Since growing up in Michigan, Zing Studio owner Rachel Hadiashar has lived in Ohio, California and Massachusetts. With an undergraduate degree studying music, a master’s degree in theology and the arts, and a love of smart people drew her to working at MIT in Cambridge, Rachel’s curiosity has always driven her to look for the spark in people’s eyes. Rachel is a member of the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Beaverton Class of 2025, the Washington County Art Alliance, and the photographer in residence for Resonance Ensemble and the Willamette Valley Chamber Music Festival. She was nominated for Business Leader of the Year with the Sherwood Chamber and won Rookie of the Year in 2024. With three spunky kids and a brilliant husband, Rachel splits her time between running the photography studio and getting kids to art class and soccer practice, and coaching them through sibling rivalry.

Q What exactly does your business do?

I have been photographing creative Oregonians for more than a decade and currently offer portrait sessions at my studio in Sherwood and on location with organizations throughout the Portland metro area. My client list includes notable

artists, musicians, authors and thought leaders. My current portrait series focuses on photographing and interviewing people in their zones of genius. What sets my business apart is the amount of time I spend with clients. I maintain my own portrait studio because I want to curate a space that is warm and inviting, safe and unrushed. I am curious about my clients and find out more about who they are and how they shine in the world. This is no mini-session situation; a photo session with me is a cue to be playful and irreverent, and an invitation to share your power with the world through beautiful finished images.

Q What are most proud of professionally?

At the beginning of 2024, I had a goal to be featured in a magazine. Not only was my work on SEVEN covers, but my clients were published in national publications, including Downbeat Magazine, The Strad, Governing Magazine and Psychology Today — and now, look, I am in this local one, too! I am very proud that this intention was realized in such an abundant manner.

Q What keeps you motivated in your business?

I can’t advertise that the right photo can be life-changing — because even though anecdotally that is the end result of working with a great photographer, YMMV — your mileage may vary. I never want to over-promise. Hearing client after client tell me how they were finally “seen” through better portraiture is my motivation.

I have been in nonprofit executive management for 25 years and have had many wonderful successes, but the accomplishment I am most proud of is raising my three daughters to be successful adults, and I believe that it was becoming a mom — moms have to learn multiple management skills — that gave me the skillset to be a good manager.

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

When I was in the middle of my biggest trial and a newly single momma, I trusted in what God told me to do. I had nothing to lose but my pride. One phone call changed my life. I shared my Godspoken vision to a local business owner, and she championed me to lead and help multiply her business. It started with one location and added design services, then another location and another! She trusted my vision, and as a business owner myself, I can’t believe, to this day, the risk she took on me. I’m forever grateful for the knowledge and experiences I’ve gained from this venture. Now it’s time to see what we can do with Provision House!

Q What is your advice for young women in business?

My advice for young women in business: Do it scared and have faith in what you are called to do. Do it even though you don’t have it all figured out. Faith is called RISK.

Christine Lewy Divine Complexions

Christine Lewy, owner/founder of Divine Complexions, is an award-winning esthetician and makeup artist. Although she didn’t pursue a career with her animal science studies at Oregon State, she continues her love of animals by raising toy poodles and Labradoodles with her husband, Matthew, and their six boys, ranging from 9 months to 13 years. Meanwhile, parrot Moe and cockatiel Mango add to the Lewy menagerie. Christine volunteers at Divine Threads and has been a plus-size model — signed by Wilhelmina NY — since 2007. She loves hanging out with her family, sharing fantastic meals and getting massages.

Q What exactly does your business do?

Divine Complexions is a girly luxurious oasis! We call ourselves a beauty medspa because I started the beauty side as an esthetician, doing makeup, facials and waxing. Then a couple years into my business, my mom joined me as a nurse injector, and we started the medspa. On the beauty side, we offer precision facial and body waxing, luxury facials, Hydrafacials, YUMI Lash Lifting, and non-invasive skin tightening. We also specialize in makeup application and hair styling for bridal parties and special events, as well as makeup lessons. The medspa features skilled nurse injectors who do Botox, filler and all the fun things!

Q What keeps you motivated in your business?

As the owner, I can get caught up in the business side, so I have to keep coming back to what I love to do as a provider of services: makeup application, eyebrow waxing and working with new estheticians. Being hands-on and doing what I love keeps me motivated — also seeing happy clients!

Q What are you most proud of professionally?

I’m most proud of starting my business when I was eight months pregnant — with my second son — out of a room in our humble home; and then growing it over the years while also growing our family into eight. We are now in this big beautiful spa location with a talented and passionate team. We just celebrated 10 years!

Q Advice for young women in business?

Listen to your heart! That’s where your inspiration comes from and what will make you happy and successful. Follow it, and each step will be shown to you. It’s OK to be scared. Be terrified, but do it anyway! Also, you can grow a family and a business if it’s what God put in your heart. It will teach your children more than you can fathom.

Q How would you describe your perfect day off?

Having fun with my family and dogs playing outside! No arguing, messes are magically cleaned, and food is made! Moms, I know you know.

My advice to young women in business is to surround yourself with positive people you respect. Pay attention to all they do — even the little things — especially how they interact with other people and how they manage their time.

Q How would you describe your perfect day off?

My perfect day is definitely sitting at the beach — preferably a warm one! — with my feet in the sand, staring at the ocean with a journal and a good book.
