When taking photos of the Northern Lights, consider these advice from famous Northern Lights hunter Kjetil Skogli: Equipment: A DSLR /compact camera with manual settings to adjust shutterspeed, aperture, ISO and focus. • • • • • • • • •
A wide angel lens ( aperture f3.5 is good enough, but f2.8 and lower is better) Tripod to prevent shaking Cable or remote releaser Microfibre cloth Headtorch with possibility for red lights ISO: 100 – 800 (or higher if needed) Aperture: lowest possible. Shutterspeed: 5 and 25 seconds. Focus: Manual focus set to infinity. Zoom in on preview to check if the stars are sharp
Extra tip: Some moonlight over the landscape makes the photo even more interesting.
