a benefit for:

HEY, TORONTO! WE STILL HAVE SOMETHING TO WALK ABOUT.

Thank you for supporting the 2012 Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto. This event would not be possible without you! In 2012 we’re asking every Torontonian to take note: HIV/AIDS is a reality in our communities. In Toronto: 1 in 4 new HIV diagnoses are among youth under 30 1 in 5 new HIV diagnoses are among women 1 in 5 gay men live with HIV

Last year, the AIDS Walk Toronto raised well over $475,000. This year, we have set a goal of raising $500,000. Funds raised will support the work of the AIDS Committee of Toronto (ACT). ACT delivers services for people living with, affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS. A community leader in health promotion and prevention, ACT has helped our city remain strong throughout the AIDS epidemic. Every day, two Torontonians contract HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Preventing one HIV infection saves $370,000 in direct costs over a lifetime. More people than ever are living with HIV/AIDS in Toronto. Our work is far from over. Thank you again for joining the fight against HIV/AIDS. Register. Donate. Walk. aidswalktoronto.ca

Once you’ve registered for the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life Toronto, here are ten easy ways to help you reach your fundraising goal: 1. Set a goal! Challenge yourself, can you raise more than last year? Have you checked out the Walker Incentive Packages? 2. Recruit walkers for your team. The more team members, the more money your team will raise. Consider those you could ask to join your team. In 2011, teams accounted for 75% of the total funds raised. 3. Motivate your Team. A team that is motivated and works together has more fun in reaching their fundraising goals. Find a unique way to showcase Your team spirit on Walk day. Arrive early and create a team banner or coordinate your Walk day outfits.

5. Social Media is a fast, easy and free way of reaching your friends and family. NEW this year, link your personal fundraising page with your Facebook account! 6. Start early and build your momentum. 7. Be enthusiastic and confident and able to share some facts about HIV/AIDS and how ACT makes a difference. ACToronto.org is a great resource to help answer questions. 8. Get creative and be original. You can host a themed event or a party and charge an entry fee. 9. Keep it simple. There is a reason why bake sales and car washes are successful! 10. Have fun!

MATCHING GIFT PROGRAMS

Your employer or employee group could help increase the impact of your donation through their matching gift program. A matching gift takes place when an employer or employee group matches your contribution either dollar-for-dollar or a portion of your gift. This partial list may include your employer. Sometimes gifts are matched at a ratio of 2:1 or even 3:1 therefore multiplying the impact of your contribution! Even if it does not appear, your employer may still offer a matching gift program. Just ask your human resources department!
