We are thrilled to partner with Methuen Drama for the January-March season. Methuen Drama have over 2,000 titles available for theatre-goers, students, scholars, practitioners, actors and those wishing to pursue a career in the theatre industry. These workshops will be led by theatre practitioners who have published works with Methuen Drama. We are delighted to have these industry leaders sharing their knowledge and experience across a range of subjects.
We are thrilled to announce that the Actors Centre has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Sony. Sony's sponsorship provides the Actors Centre with state of the art camera equipment, to both enhance our screen workshops, and provide an affordable option for our members to hire cameras in order to start creating their own work. Co-Working Space Our shared co-working space is now open to our members. We have updated the WiFi in our Café and Green Room Bar and installed additional plug points so our members can benefit from a free workspace in Central London. Like most techniques, the aim of Stanislavski's was to expand, broaden and deepen an actor's engagement with the role they were playing and free their imagination and talent. In a group setting, we will examine the Stanislavski questions and terminology from its source basis, at essence, before it began to develop under the hands of other practitioners and teachers. → Previously Director of the BA Acting courses at both RADA and Drama Centre, Seb is now a freelance director and one of the UKs leading acting teachers. PARTICIPANTS: £80 Verbatim Theatre: Approaches to Modern Text Alecky Blythe Friday 24 January 14.30-17.30 Course: A169 This course is designed to teach you the specific verbatim technique in which Alecky specialises. The scripts of all her shows are created from edited audio interviews. The acting technique requires the performers to wear earphones on stage through which they hear the interviews and copy the speech pattern of the interviewee precisely. → Alecky is a playwright and actor who has pioneered the Verbatim technique she learnt in a workshop run by Mark WingDavey at the Actors Centre in 2002. Since her first show Come Out Eli (Arcola, BAC), Alecky’s work includes Cruising (Bush), The Girlfriend Experience (Royal Court, Drum, Young Vic), A Man in a Box (Channel 4), Where Have I Been All My Life? She trained at the Shiki Theatre Company (Japan), with Phillippe Gaulier (UK) and Scola Commedia Del'arte (Italy). For the last 20 years, she has been working extensively in theatre, TV and film. →Frances has worked extensively in film, TV and radio. She lectures at the University of London and continues to coach actors here and in California in vocal development and dialects. From basic principles into games and scenes, and finally exploring status. → Dave Bourn formed SPROUT IDEAS in 1998, teaching the skills of improvised theatre to actors, the business community and to the wider general public. Dave is currently the resident improvisation tutor at University of West London and the Court Theatre Drama School. He has directed shows by Stephen K Amos, Carey Marx, Felix Dexter and Phil Nichol, the last of which was also nominated for the Perrier Award. He has written for many comedians and sketch shows and also owns The Funny Side comedy club. PARTICIPANTS: £40 Fitzmaurice Voicework Technique: A Whole Body Approach to Your Voice Michaela Bartoskova Tuesday 18 February 10.30-17.30 Course: VC30 Fitzmaurice Voicework® technique is a physical approach to vocal training. This workshop gives an opportunity to discover exercises that encourage a flow of energy to open up breathing and untangle knots in our body, mind and voice. It is taught at Yale and Harvard, as well as at NYU Studios, and other institutions across the world. → Michaela is a Voice / Movement Coach who focuses on developing vocal skills through movement. She teaches at the Met Film School at Ealing Studios and leads the “To Move with Voice” project; in addition to running her private studio practice and other vocal projects. Michaela trained with Catherine Fitzmaurice, the Founder of Fitzmaurice Voicework® at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. PARTICIPANTS: £40 The Michael Chekhov Technique Michael Eriera Tuesday 25 February 10.30-17.30 Course: A303 This one day workshop will explore the Michael Chekhov methodology using gesture and physicality to create a scene through Chekhov’s guiding principle. By discovering key philosophies of Chekhov’s methodology, the actor will strive for the harmony of body and psychology. The class will culminate in a performance of the scene.

A way of communicating, listening and being fully present and available in order to discover true aliveness in scenes. This workshop delivers a practice of true presence found through the power of simplicity — a way of working taught by Bathsheba Garnett, which evolved directly from Lee Strasberg. → As an actor Daniel Benzenou has worked with the history channel, Channel 4, Working Title, BBC, Netflix, ITV, and Sky TV. He is also a director and voiceover artist. Alice Bird is a multi-award winning Actress and producer with work premiering at Toronto international Film Festival and Raindance. PARTICIPANTS: £160 Puppetry for Actors Richard Booth Friday 13 March 10.30-17.30 Course: A42 This workshop which will teach actors the basic principles of puppetry, which can be applied to various puppetry genres. Through a number of individual and team exercises we will work through the principles of focus, breath, stance and fixed points and how these relate to the puppet and puppeteer. Encouraging imagination and the joy of play that comes with it. → Richard has been a professional puppeteer for eight years. He has devised and performed on a number of collaborative projects including Kate Bush's recent comeback, Before the Dawn at the Hammersmith Apollo and as a founding member and Associate Artist of Flabbergast Theatre. Timo Niermann’s workshop helps to establish fruitful communication for saving time, effort, and money while also releasing your full potential. → Timo Niermann is a backstage expert from Vienna, Austria. He has worked as a performer, director, and stage manager in over 40 countries. He recently released his book “Collaborating Backstage” with Bloomsbury and is now sharing his practical communication techniques at various institutions, including the University of Vienna. What to Expect on the Set Todd Kramer Thursday 27 February 18.00-20.00 Course: TV80 This workshop is an opportunity to discuss and discover the ins-and-outs of a professional, working film/TV set so you can arrive to work with confidence. We’ll discuss industry terminology, look at genuine call-sheets and sides, job description, duties and hierarchy of the crew. We will go over the different travel situations (details/pick-ups) one might encounter, costume fittings, doing your own stunts, your entitlements, payment types and more.

The First Year Out of Drama School Robyn Holdaway Wednesday 12 February 18.30-20.00 Course: CA108 This event is specifically tailored for those who have just finished drama school, where we will discuss how to survive your first outing in the industry. → Robyn Holdaway is a nonbinary actor with a passion for creating diverse and engaging work that explores the boundaries of the human condition. They are a GSA graduate and in their final year they were a finalist for the prestigious Alan Bates award. Since graduating Robyn has appeared in Casualty and Doctors for the BBC, Antic Disposition's Macbeth at Temple Church, King Lear at the Orange Tree theatre, Lord of the Flies at the Greenwich theatre and commercials for Tesco and Orange. From a futuristic exploration of aesthetics and how relying on physical beauty to determine your own self-worth inevitably leads to downfall in Robert Calvert’s Mirror Mirror, to an examination of the devastating after-effects of combat in Tina Jay’s Syndrome, this season considers a wide range of compelling and critical themes. This season, we are delighted to host SHORTS Festival, a unique celebration of solo storytelling featuring twelve brand-new international pieces performed across four days in collaboration with multi-award-winning company Pants on Fire. A rich mix of writers and performers bring together an explosive line-up of six 15-minute stories every night, each told by one performer. There is a journey through the English language of past and present in Jahmar Ngozi’s Broken English alongside Michael Head’s investigation of the morality of crime and criminality in Time, while Sticks and Stones by Dameon Garnett poses questions about speech, power, class and race in modern Britain. We are also proud to include The Actors Centre member Cliffordkuju Henry in this stellar programme, who will be debuting his provocative and urgent play In Search of a White Identity, which has been developed through our John Thaw Initiative programme.
