Welcome

Welcome to our regional newsletter! Region VIII has a long history of strong and open support for colleagues and students, innovative educational experiences, and a willingness to share resources and best practices.

This year’s Regional Leadership Team has been hard at work developing a robust schedule of programming and networking opportunities, both online and in person. Please make sure to take a look at the calendar in this quarter’s publication. (And shameless plug... if you are interested in hosting an online discussion or hosting a program – we are always looking for short-term volunteers!)

All joking aside – our volunteers and members are the heartbeat of our region – and whether you have never volunteered or have been away for a while – we welcome you and encourage you to get involved – there is an opportunity available for everyone; we will genuinely find or craft an opportunity that fits your availability and expertise.

I love ACUI and most especially Region VIII and hope to connect with as many of you as possible – if you have an idea, a question, or just looking to learn more about the region, it’s services (and just want to say hello!) please send me an email at Amy_Liss@uml.edu, and I’ll schedule a time to personally connect.

Our region is all about the people – and we are so glad that each of you is an important part of our region.

Make it a great day!

Amy Liss

Our Educational Programs Coordinator, Elizabeth LaClair (Southern New Hampshire University) outlines our educational programs for the year ahead

We have an exciting year of educational programming planned for ACUI Region VIII! From monthly webinars, to bringing back the Drive Around, you’ll want to mark your calendars for everything we have to offer. Information about upcoming events, and previous events can be found on our social media and in the newsletter, as well ast via email. Some highlights for this year:

You told us you’d like more opportunities to connect virtually. So we’re doing just that with the “You Asked, We Answered: Thursday Webinar Series.” Topics for this series will include discussions on campus food insecurity, maximizing year end budgets, celebrating holidays within the union and best practices in student employment. You can catch the series the 3rd or 4th Thursday of each month.

For our graduate students, undergraduate seniors and young professionals we’ll be presenting “Level Up Your Job Search” on February 22, 2019 at Babson College. This will be an opportunity to have your resume and cover letter reviewed or to have a mock interview with a mid to senior level professional. Registration is open until February 11, 2019 at www.acui.org.

Lastly, on July 25, 2019 we’ll be bring back the Drive Around. This year we’ll be visiting several institutions in Rhode Island, with a parking pickup just outside of Boston. Topics covered will include how institutions maximize technology, intercultural proficiency and managing construction/renovation budgets.

Planning for the 2020 calendar starts in June, so if you have programs you’d like included, or would like to host a program, please let us know!
