BECAUSE OF YOU...

2014 was an extraordinary year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County–one of the greatest in our history! We are blessed to have a generous community, an amazing board, dedicated volunteers, and passionate staff who made a difference for the 4,000 kids we serve in Ada County. Your support provided us with the resources to break ground on a new gym and teen center in Meridian, expand services to more kids, and implement programs that positively changed thousands of young people’s lives! Boys & Girls Clubs exist to close the opportunity gap and help low-income kids keep pace with their wealthier peers by providing the enriching experiences, meaningful relationships, consistency, and reliability that they might otherwise be forced to go without. By providing a safe place where kids can find the support they need—whether it’s a warm meal, words of encouragement from a caring adult, or just a little extra help with those algebra equations—the Clubs help young people overcome the obstacles in their life and get inspired to build a better future. We are excited to present our 2014 Annual Report, which acknowledges the great generosity of our donors and the courage of children and young adults who inspire us every day with their energy and determination. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff, and the children we serve, thank you for your continued support.

COLLEEN BRAGA Executive Director

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS REALLY DO CHANGE LIVES A poll of 1,000 Club alumni by Harris Interactive revealed the following facts about the Clubs ability to affect lives:

57% said the Club saved their life.

90% of alumni graduate high school. (National average is 67%.)

1/3 of alumni are the first in their family to go to College.

MISSION

• ACADEMIC SUCCESS • HEALTHY LIFESTYLES • GOOD CHARACTER & CITIZENSHIP

We envision a world-class club experience that ensures success is within reach of every young person who walks through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, while living a healthy lifestyle.

Over 4,000 Ada County youth, ages 6-18, participate as members of our Moseley Center, Meridian Club, and our summer program in Kuna. They benefit from trained, caring, professional staff and volunteers who give them guidance, encouragement and the tools they need to grow into responsible, productive and caring adults. The Club offers kids a fun atmosphere with access to a broad range of programs focused on:

The Boys & Girls Club is different from other youth programs in that we are relationship-based. We utilize our programs and activities as tools to encourage kids to develop strong relationships with adult role models. It is through these relationships that their lives are positively transformed. We believe all kids deserve a fun, safe place to call their own, programs to inspire, opportunities, expectations, and adults who care. We believe that greatness is within the reach of every child, and that kids who come to our Clubs have a better chance to succeed in school and in life. At the Boys & Girls Club, we know that great futures really do start here!

To inspire and empower all youth, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.

YOUTH OF THE YEAR

Boys & Girls Club member, Olyvia Border, recalls a number of challenges she faced as a young child. An absent father, and abusive step-father, threats of child services, and feelings of abandonment were all the ingredients she needed to close herself off from the world but credits her Boys & Girls Club experience as motivating force for helping to overcoming these challenges. In the 6th grade, Olyvia joined the Meridian Boys & Girls Club at the urging of her best friend and older brother J.P. It didn’t take too long for the then-shy Olyvia to make friends and form strong relationships with Club staff. An award of Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Club kid can receive and recognizes outstanding Club members who make significant contributions to family, school, community and Club, as well as overcoming a personal challenge or obstacles. Olyvia is all this and more. She has taken part in leadership programs at the Club such as Junior Staff, Keystone Club, SMART programs, and even had a job at the Club while in high school. She is a remarkable young lady. Olyvia graduated from Renaissance High School this past May with both her high school diploma and her Associate’s degree. She will be attending Washington State University in the fall with a double major in Spanish and BusinessFinance. Olyvia is proof that Great Futures Start Here!

• ACADEMIC SUCCESS • HEALTHY LIFESTYLES • GOOD CHARACTER & CITIZENSHIP

HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

Programs that focus on health and life skills develop members’ capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, teach them to set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults. These habits will last a lifetime and influence the health and happiness of their life indefinitely.

THANKS TO OUR DONORS... 902 youth received homework help and tutoring in the power hour program!

200,000

free, nutritious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and snacks were served throughout the year!

555 youth participated in the Summer Reading Club! 709 youth participated in the Sunrise Club and Year 1 Kindergarten programs!

186 youth performed service projects at the Boys & Girls Club or in the community!

439

youth took part in field trips related to academic success and career exploration including college tours and job shadowing!

THE EDUCATION EQUATION

The dropout crisis is not just a school, youth, or parent issue–it’s a community and societal issue. A crisis of this magnitude involves ALL of us. We aim to ensure all Club members progress each year to the next grade level.

THE WELL-ROUNDED CHILD

By focusing on academics, health and fitness, and leadership and service, the children we serve will be better prepared to graduate high school and thrive as adults, contributing to their communities, and to their nation!

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF ADA COUNTY | ANNUAL REPORT 2014 | WWW.ADACLUBS.ORG

SUCCESS EQUATION

Everything we do at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County is focused on helping our members achieve SUCCESS IN LIFE! That’s why we provide high-quality programs and support servies that allow our members to leave us at age 18, “ready for life.” Our goal is to positively impact the lives of Club members by focusing our efforts on these 3 key essential outcome areas:

We extend our deepest appreciation to the individuals and organizations whose generous support of our Capital Campaign has enabled us make a difference for kids in the communities we serve. Through investment in facilities, such as the expansion of the Meridian Club to include a new gym and teen center, to multi-year program support, which keeps our Clubs affordable and accessible, we are so very grateful for the people whose gifts helped make great things happen for our children and our community. $1,000,000 JA & Kathryn Albertson Foundation

10 WE DREAM BIG, TOO.

Like our kids, we dream BIG. By 2020, we aim to have 100% of the children in our Clubs on track to graduate on time, while living healthy lifestyles, and giving back to the community. But we can’t do it alone. It is only with your support that we can continue to open the doors to success to our Youth. Here are just a few of the ways you can help!

VOLUNTEER!

We have volunteer opportunities at our Meridian Club, Moseley Center, and Kuna Summer Program locations, as well as on our board, at our events, and community service projects.

DONATE!

Your contributions to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County are truly an investment in the future of our community! Donate online at www.adaclubs.org or stop by the Garden City or Meridian locations. In-kind gifts make up almost 50% of all charitable giving, and are a great way to invest in the Youth of Ada County. Gifts can be donated in the form of products, property, equipment, and other material donations. In-kind gifts are tax deductible as noncash charitable.

SPONSOR AN EVENT!

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County provide sponsors with a variety of marketing opportunities. Whether it’s placing your company’s name on a professional poster to display in your lobby or becoming the title sponsor at one of our major events, your company will receive the recognition it deserves. You can sponsor individual Club programs and activities or any of our major annual events such as: The Wild West Auction, held every Spring, The Spud Challenge Golf Tournament, or The Great Dolphin Dunk, held every Summer.

PLANNED GIVING!

We have been experiencing a great deal of interest from friends of Boys & Girls Clubs in becoming members of The Heritage Club by making a planned gift. We invite you to explore the benefits of gift planning and to see how your gift might help save a child. Find out more at www.clubgift.org.

KEEP IN TOUCH!

One of the best ways to support us is to stay up to date with our current events and promotions online. Our website is adaclubs.org. Connect with us on Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, follow our blog, and sign up for our email newsletter—We rely on YOU to help us spread the word on current events, news, and promotions!
