Nexus Campus - Hive 4th year - 7 weeks - Team project with Dorsa Naimi

The building is the central building of five on a new creativity district on the Boston water front. The form is a simple container that contrasts with an eroding interior determined by the movement of the public on the new high line. Thick exterior walls provide service spaces that allow the interior shell to breath and create functional spaces on either side. The new building provides both an icon for the city and an engaging community center for the site.

The proposed building forms a direct distinction between the new and old elements of Cowgill Hall, the current architecture building on the Virginia Tech campus. Deliberate gestural actions sweep a metal curtain screen to reveal aspects of the adaptive reuse building. The idea of veiling is related to the interior through operable curtain partitions and glass partition walls. The primary addition includes an interior feature stair in an atrium and the addition of two stair cores, with the existing Cowgill cores being used for more service space for the new occupancy loads.

Uganda Clinic 2nd year - 6 weeks

The form utilizes an exterior spine for movement and building clusters for separating communal and private space, as well as sick and healthy spaces. The central triage building opens to the greater community of Entebbe while the central shore allows the greater water community to readily access the clinic. Each building is made using light metal-frame construction and leans to divert water run-off from affecting the complex.

From the central triage space, patients will be directed towards more private or more public clusters. An open air walkway with a rain canopy allows for circulation between the built masses and moments of pause through the branching paths. Program was shifted to give back to the community, with focus on a public gathering space, private ob-gyn areas, and exterior locations for mass gatherings.

Digital Fabrication Quilt 4th Year - 4 weeks

A patch in a greater quilt, the exercise explores digital landscapes and the physical tools used to create them. Simple surface movements based on the deformation of fabric and water combines with a height map that accentuates the connections with the neighbors. This leads to a digitally rational surface but a physically irrational one. The final tile is an imaginary landscape created by the compounding of these irrational surfaces. Fabrication methods of LaserCAMM, CNC milling, and 3D printing create a triptych of a greater abstract landscape composed of twelve interlocking tiles. 24

3rd Year Design Competition 1 week - Honorable Mention

The reactivation of a public space occurs over a series of design phases. Modular scaffolding, a common building material, allows for the expansion of the form over time. This simplicity in form is complemented by nontextual graphics explaining the integral aspects of the design. The result is a modern take on the amphitheater that rejects the idea of a finished proposal. 26

Kinetic Sculpture 3rd Year - 2 weeks

Removing mundane objects from their regular context resulted in a piece that pushed the private space into the public realm. The sculpture is made with old window screens as a frame and blinds used a surrounding facade, all connected by zipties. Experience of the piece included movement through public areas across campus, and interaction with people in a time of isolation. 28

Digital Mentorship Collaborative Executive Lead, 2020 - Now

DMCo is a student run initiative that hopes to bring digital literacy to the Virginia Tech design population. We host workshops, lectures, and tutorials all based on disseminating digital information to our student body. As an executive lead, I lead the workshops, hosts lectures, run communications, and make graphics for our events. 30

American Institute of Architecture Students Graphics Design Lead, 2020 - 2021

The American Institute of Architecture Students is an independent, nonprofit, student-run organization providing programs, information, and resources on issues critical to architecture and the experience of education. As the graphics lead, I work on the executive board to help market and brand the events we host. 31
