The ‘S’ joint is a detail that separates the frame of the chair and the coloured backrest. Acting as a unique detail, it also allows the backrest section to be finished separately. This joint is possible in manufacture via the use of accurate CNC machinery. The joint uses dominoes and is simply glued together as two individual components.

Taking inspiration from retro studio lights, juxtaposing the materials is achieved through the use of two spinnings. The stand shape and black finish are inspired by high-end minimalist modern lighting in order for the light to act as a statement piece within the home. 18

The use of Cape-Dutch architecture was predominant throughout the development of the project. The dibber was inspired by traditional Ndebele dolls. The tray acts as a base to hold the pot, dibber and chalk. Incorporated into the tray is a sloped run-off area of excess water.

As part of a larger brief, the entirety of this project was designed using CAD. The mesh’s rustic and industrial aesthetic fulfils the brief set by the client. The handle details were inspired by non-symmetrical geometric forms and are cast as a single component.

Brush
2019 Brush is an elegant brush and pan which was born out of a simple idea; what could eight design students achieve within the limitations of 2 days? A series of photographs from my personal collection which show strong geometric imagery in day to day life. My love for photography comes from the realisation that it is a process where we create art out of everyday life, allowing us to appreciate the world around us

About Me To me a Product Designer is someone who improves the environment in which we live, by creating products that enhance lives both functionally and aesthetically. My aim is to develop a design methodology and skill set which encompasses understanding of human behaviour and truly comprehends what people require. For me, design is about understanding materials, processes and the potential they have in finding creative product solutions. At the same time it is critical that we challenge the use of materials and find new processes that acknowledge our limited global resources and environment.
