About me: My focus as an architecture student is on how design has an affect on human well being and health. The structures we spend day in and day out in should provide us with an enviornment that not only promotes physical health, but mental health as well. They should also support the enviornment through sustainable design choices and features. I hope to design strucutures that can benefit the overall prosperity of its users and the enviornment while also creating an inviting and socially dynamic space. 1

Located in the South Loop of Chicago, the Agricultural center is a driving factor in the urban sustainablility movement. The main goal of this structure is to help provide education, public awareness, and outreach for the community. The design of the building is in hope of serving as a beacon, the reclaimed and locally sourced wooden facade serves as a visual landmark celebrating the idea of home grown architecture. The interior material choice and layout are critical as they are important to helping foster an inviting and socially dynamic space. The overall design concept was to create a space the community could learn from and enjoy.

This kiosk serves as a way to extend the influence of the Agricultural Center beyond the bounds of the South Loop. The structure is designed to utilize the prominent Chicago River to not only help in reaching neighborhoods that are struggling, but to also help promote the center in a very public way. By retrofitting an already existing barge it continues to push the sustainable idea of recycling and repurposing. The concept that drove the materiality and layout are similar to that of the main center, again using recycled wood for the flooring and utilizing large windows to allow light and views for the entire space. This Studio Apartment is on the 5th floor of the Lincoln building in downtown champaign. The concept behind this project is to showcase the ample lighting and openess of the space. To achive this, the key idea was compression and release. By dropping a soffit down over the entry, bedroom, and bathroom in seperates the apartment into two distinct portions. The North half is bathed in natural light and higher ceilings. Then, by being paired with a light materiality and low furniture clutter, the space begins to expand beyond the dimensions of the main walls.

Allerton Park is a critical landmark for the University of Illinois, it serves as the site for many projects do to its unique features and topography. For this project the driving concept was to provide a space for prospect and refuge. A space where you could go for shelter or for exploration. The design is revolved around the idea of integration, by molding the strucutre, it appears to have always been and belong in the park. Weaving through the trees and topography, this structure serves as a space for views and protection.

Allerton Park has some of the most interesting and dynamic topography near the University. For this project I examined this in a way that allowed me to better understand what makes this park important. By creating a mold of the topography and then casting it in cement, I was not only able to see an actual represetation of the sites elevation changes, but an inverse of it as well. By doing this analysis I was better able to comprehend how the land moves and this helped me design several projects on this site.
