A garden should offer… An escape, a place where you are completely present and encapsulated in the constant change it can offer. A garden has a certain energy that encourages conversation and time out with friends and family. Any tips for small-space planting? In small spaces, I generally have a more relaxed planting layout by layering plants – using trees, shrubs and groundcovers, instead of just a hedge for example. Layering makes the garden feel larger than it is as you’re able to incorporate more plants, texture and interest. Also, think about how you use your garden – lounging, entertaining, growing produce. Then, you can prioritise space for your most crucial activity. For info on Adam’s work and workshops at his new studio, visit adamrobinsondesign.com.
