Program/Performance Notes:

Composed Upon Westminster Bridge was written in March 2014 to celebrate my brother Sam's 19th birthday. He recommended the text as part of an ongoing project involving texts suggested by members of my family. Wordsworth's poem is beautiful and full of imagery. He provides us an account of a morning on the Thames in London, complete with its "ships, towers, domes" and so on, in all their glory. However, the real strength of the poet's words is not in relating these objects, but rather how he communicates this scene in all its subtle beauty and power.The premiere of Composed Upon Westminster Bridge was given by members of the University of Houston Moores School of Music Concert Chorale on April 14, 2015 under the direction of Eric Laine.

Vowel modulation

This arrow with a dashed line represents the gradual change in the vowel sound to take place between mm. 51-52 ("air" to "oo"). This should be performed by singing "oo" without a glottal stroke following "air," as if one were to conjoin them as a single word, "airoo."
