DESIGN ETHOS As my knowledge in architecture grew throughout my studies and experience in practice, I became interested in developing a personal architectural practice that appreciated detail, prioritised craftsmanship, and a thoughtful use of materiality whilst also considering a dichotomy of scales. My fifth-year project has been an architectural investigation into the spatiotemporal opportunities found within minute time scales, exploring the intrinsic relationship between one’s perception of time and space, and how architecture can sculpt a person’s perception of both these temporalities through considered design and careful architectural interventions.

PRACTICE RAYNER DAVIES ARCHITECTS / Part I Architectural Assistant / August 2017 - August 2018 After graduating from Nottingham, I worked as a Part 1 architectural assistant at Rayner Davies Architects, where I was involved in a wide variety of work, all at varying stages of the RIBA plan of work. During this time, I was given a large amount of responsibility, so was able to work independently; communicating directly with the client, contractors, and planning consultants.

- V-Ray

While I was at Rayner Davies Architects I worked on numerous projects of varying scales and typologies, ranging from extensions, one-off new build houses, a new build primary school, a new-build office, and a community sports village. The diverse range of projects helped me to understand the differing requirements each project has and the level of care that is required to produce a project that satisfies the brief, meets planning requirements, while also maintaining a consistent quality of design.

WORK EXPERIENCE COMMISSION BASED FURNITURE MAKING / May 2019 - Present Since 2019, I’ve been exploring my interest in furniture making and woodwork. This led to gaining commissions, for example, myself and one other student were commissioned to design and assemble a pop-up shop fit-out for a clothing brand in Shoreditch. More recently, I have been commissioned to design and make smaller pieces, such as a home office desk, kitchen stools, shoe racks, bedside tables, coffee tables, speaker stands, and laptop stands. This endeavour has not only improved my design skills and interests in woodwork, but it has also allowed me to work one-on-one with numerous clients. This endeavour has meant that I’ve gained a better knowledge of cost, time, and client management.

UNIVERSITY OF GREENWICH / Workshop Support Assistant / September 2020 - Present While working as a workshop support assistant I was tasked with operating a range of industrial machinery, laser cutting machines, CNC routers, and numerous 3D printers. This job built upon my model-making skills and developed my knowledge of a variety of materials, and their aesthetic and physical qualities. As a support assistant, I was also tasked with processing 2D and 3D files for students and assisting them with their physical models. This required a knowledge of modelling techniques and an understanding of the potential materials a student could use. The job tested my communicative skills in a variety of manners, whether it was developing and formalising physical model ideas, explaining a model-making process, or the operation of a piece of machinery.

A CREATIVE RESPITE MArch 1st YEAR A Creative Respite is a refuge for artists, a place where they can set aside foolish things under the protective covering of Hampstead Heath. The project aims to provide a refined solitude where the artist’s undeveloped ideas and artworks can manifest and take form through a symbiotic relationship of creativity. The creative respites are located within Hampstead Heath. Heath not only provides a refuge but it was also intended as a place for inspiration.

MANIFESTATIONS OF A DYNAMIC EVENT MArch 2nd YEAR Manifestations of a Dynamic Event is an architectural project set off Norton Folgate Street, London. It was an architectural investigation that explored the spatiotemporal qualities of William Sansom’s memories of being a firefighter in London during World War II. The project created an assemblage of episodic spatial sequences that explored the spatiotemporal qualities of William Sansom’s memories and literary works. The spatial sequences created an architectural experience for visitors to experience and re-inhabit his memories.
