Facilitator: Have someone read the following Scripture reference and then ask the next question.

Romans 12:1 (NLT) Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Do you see that much of your identity was a result of copying the worldly influences around you? In what ways to you see this?
Facilitator: Share the following with the two Scripture references and then have someone read from the reference in Philippians.
Unless we are willing to die to our old identity and allow it to be crucified with Christ and everything it represented, we will never fully take on the wonderful new identity Christ has promised us as believers in Him.
Matthew 16:25 (NLT) If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life.
Once we have come to the place where we are willing to lose our old identity we can begin the wonderful process of discovery that brings us into a complete and new identity that is born out of the beauty and the glory of heaven rather than the depravity of hell.
Knowing that our old identity was developed in our sinful nature, God now desires that our new identity be birthed according to His nature within us.
2 Corinthians 5:16-17 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. 17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
According to Philippians 2:5-11, your new identity will be shaped in humility.
Philippians 2:5-8 (NLT) Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not demand and cling to his rights as God. 7He made himself nothing; (of no reputation NKJV) he took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form.
What are some of the things that we now have in Christ that are to make up our new identity in Him?
Possible Answers: The fruit of the Spirit, power, authority, confidence, divine ability, overcoming conquering mentality
Can you think of some Scriptures that speak of the above mentioned identity items?
Facilitator: Give your group time to come up with some good references, but be prepared to have them look up the answers below.
