There is no greater Mitzvah than to offset the expenses of a chasuna. The Shulchan Aruch rules that a community may sell a Sefer Torah in order to provide the funding to marry off a Kallah. This is quite an extraordinary ruling. It is an extraordinary ruling because it is an extraordinary Mitzvah. In our local area there is one organization that has helped pay for the expenses of over 500 Kallahs and Chassanim. In fact, more than $750,000 has been spent on chasuna costs. The recipients of the largesse of this organization range the geographic spectrum – from the Five Towns/Far Rockaway area to the Tri-State, and beyond. What is shocking about this organization is that the people who make this auction happen are not who we expect them to be. They are young girls, ages 14 – 18. Machon Sarah Torah Academy for Girls High School`s Be`er Miriam Tziporah volunteers have become major players in the Hachnosas Kallah scene and have managed to create the premiere Hachnosas Kallah organization in the nation. This is no exaggeration! There is no organization in the country like our local Hachnosas Kallah fund. “It is so humbling to be able to work on a project that helps so many people in and out of this community,” said Tzipori Weinstock, an Auction Coordinator. All monies raised from this auction go directly to help Kallahs and Chassanim whose families face financial difficulties when marrying off their children. “I consider it a great

opportunity to be able to use my G-d given talents to help many people from our community with such a lofty project, the Be’er Miriam Hachnosas Kallah,” said Malkie Jungreis, another Auction Coordinator. "It’s really inspiring to see the whole community support Be’er Miriam, and it’s been truly gratifying to experience firsthand all that goes into making the auction happen,” said Rivky Edelman, a Chinese Auction Coordinator. They echo the sentiments of all the girls who work tirelessly on behalf of this tzedakah. Costs have risen substantially in recent years, causing many families great financial hardship. Some families simply do not have the funds necessary to pay for a wedding in a timely fashion. This fund enables Kallahs and Chassanim to get married while allowing the family`s kavod to remain intact. The fund also helps to relieve the anxiety and stress that the average middle income family undergoes when facing the enormous costs of a wedding. Costs associated with even a relatively modest wedding are staggering and can make a huge impact on middle income families paying other bills. Just knowing that even one bill is taken care of can be a source of relief to the parents that are paying for the wedding. It was Chanukah. ‫ ב”ה‬I listened to the hubbub of children playing, running, joyous shrieks, babies crying, and young mothers and fathers soothing kids, schmoozing together, and working on food preparation. I paused to reflect that ‫ ב”ה‬all this beautiful noise was ‫`הקב”ה‬s gift and the blessings the ‫ רבונו של עולם‬bestowed on me. My Miriam ‫ ע”ה‬is never far from my thoughts, for she is one of the greatest blessings of all. Her strength of character was challenging as she was growing up, and then, maturing into a beautiful young lady, she channeled all the strength into Torah – true convictions and life style of tremendous ‫ כונה‬in her ‫תפילות‬, enormous belief in Shmiras Halashon, and a Kesher with her Creator that was unshakable.

Miriam said that ‫ הקב”ה‬custom designs a person’s life exactly for them. Would I – had I been given a choice – passed up the opportunity of having this child, together with the terrible pain of “losing” her? (By-the-way, there is no such thing as losing a child. The fact that it seems so is one of the delusions of this Olam Hasheker.) Of course not. My custom – designed life included the tremendous ‫ זכות‬to have been my daughter’s gateway into the world, where she achieved the highest score! She is one of the greatest blessings in my life, a complete gift from ‫הקב”ה‬. Whenever I think of her, I understand His love for me.

The pain of losing her was so indescribable; 20 years later it leaves a lingering, recurring depression despite reaching for ‫ בטחון‬on a continuous basis. It became my lifelong challenge – and goal – to find my daughter within myself her ‫אמונה‬, her connection to ‫הקב”ה‬, her love for me, and her love for Klal Yisrael.

The noise and tarraram on Chanukah, with all of us gathered, is the sound of Miriam`s circle. We are her circle. And she is our center. Love and Hakaras HaTov to MSHS-TAG and the Far Rockaway/ Five Towns communities,
