LONDON WORKSHOP 2022
This global design workshop with Yard Studio in London was a great opportunity to discover new opportunities.
First of all, while conducting this Workshop Project Theme, Story & Play, it is a rediscovery of the fact that "fun brings out creativity" and a rediscovery of the design potential of our participating students. In particular, I think students have discovered a new perspective through the process of acknowledging differences in different ways of thinking and solving problems creatively through a team composed of three students with different majors. In addition, it is a good opportunity to meet with the representatives of Yeonju Yang & Claudio of Yard Studio, who have excellent design skills.
It was a short workshop of 5 times in about 15 days, but I am sure it was a beneficial and pleasant experience for all of you who participated.
Prof, Jung wook GO Coordinator, Creative Workshop London 2022 Autumn
Designers always have a desire for new things. New ideas, new environments, and collaboration with new colleagues. In that sense, the Yard Studio Workshop seems to have been an experience that intensely draws out our senses.
I witnessed a scene in which a team of students with three different majors, Visual Design, Digital Media Design, and Product Interaction Design, was placed on the unfamiliar condition of a workshop and radiated synergy that expanded several times. The act of design is not a reproduction of the past, but an experimental exploration process of imagining things that have not yet happened. That's why I can dare to say that the output of this workshop students created has value beyond a simple portfolio. I believe that those values will be able to demonstrate their true value on the world stage that each person dreams of.
Thank you to all the professors and students who planned and participaed in this program together various viewpoints and ideas were discussed and shared. We believe this has been a very meaningful and beneficial experience for all students.
This Design Workshop was extraordinary. Students from different majors quickly collaborated and immersed themselves toward their goals, awakening their inner child who was sleeping. The development of perseverance and persistence never slacked off, and the result was a great success! There was continuous laughter throughout the workshop at the brilliant idea, and the online space transcending time and space was filled with relentless experiments and passionate communication. This is enough to qualify as a global designer! Yard CEOs Mrs. Yeonju Yang and Mr. Claudio Ripol woke up early in the morning before going to work, but they generously poured warm encouragement and vivid criticism on the students while delighting the eyes with a couple look with fresh saturation and pattern. Comments that suggested clear goals, sparked creativity, and encouraged teamwork set an example of who a good director can make a project succeed. Thank you. Yard intern Mr. Ho-yeon, a graduate and first proponent of this workshop, devotedly served as an intermediary between Busan and London and devotedly helped his juniors with meticulous comments. Good manners and every act of dedication were examples for his juniors.
Lastly, I would like to thank Professor Koh Jeong-wook, who is in charge of the entire workshop, for his hard work. Even in the middle of the semester, if it weren't for the professor's systematic, meticulous, and considerate progress, the students wouldn't have been able to show off their talents to their heart's content. I would also like to thank all the professors who participated. I hope that the international workshop with our Design University and Yard will continue for a long time!
About Yeonju Yang and Claudio Ripol
Co-founders of YARD studio in London, UK Co-founders of Owl&Dog Playbooks
Biography
Yeonju and Claudio met in London, while studying a Masters Degree in product design at the Royal College of Art.
Yeonju went on to join Ab Rogers Design, where she worked on interiors, taking ideas from concept through to technical and production detail, collaborating with architects and specialist sub-contractors. She developed retail projects for clients such as Miller Harris, Issey Miyake Perfumes, as well as numerous exhibition and museum projects such as Science Museum, Tate Modern and British Council. She later joined Pentagram London as an Associate Partner.
In the meantime, Claudio went on to join Christoph Behling, where he worked primarily for Tag Heuer, both catalogue watches and yearly concept pieces for Basel World, as well as mobile phones and other consumer industrial design projects. He later joined Polaroid design team, to work on new cameras, accessories and music players.
Yeonju and Claudio co-founded YARD design studio in 2011, where they work on a variety of disciplines including product, interiors, graphics, packaging and branding.
In parallel, they also launched children book publisher Owl&Dog Playbooks in 2016. Passionate for producing beautiful tactile toys but also aware that the price point would make them unaffordable and niche, they set to create books which could be played with.
Additionally, Claudio was a Research associate at the Royal College of Art, Innovation Unit, and a tutor on Master in Development of Products and Digital Modelling at EsDesign, Barcelona, as well as part of the tribunal for evaluation of final Projects.
Yeonju has been a judge at the D&AD awards for two years running, she has been visiting lecturer at Royal College of Art, and is currently a visiting lecturer at University of the Arts London. Web www.ya-rd.com www.owlanddog.com

Our content is generated in-house or through collaboration with artists, both established and emerging.
We create objects halfway between a book and a toy to enhance the reading experience with playful physical interaction.
Since the first book was created in 2016, the publishing house has reached worldwide distribution and received multiple awards.
Creative Workshop London, 2022 Autumn
This was the first workshop that YARD has run with Dongseo University, and the brief for this year was "Story & Play".
During three intense weeks in October 2022, twelve students from three different design departments came together to create an object that would integrate story and play, crossing over two and three dimensions.
We provided a general framework, expected outcome and inspirational references.
The students joined in groups of three and dynamically worked hard to achieve the goals set out for each phase.
They enthusiastically took to working together in interdisciplinary groups, bringing their own ideas and skills for the good of the project.
They generated a number of creative ideas and selected a direction to pursue, successively detailing and refining their projects until the creation of a prototype.
The results were fantastic, and the students' hard work and skill were inspiring, as was the input from the several professors involved.

Creative Workshop London, 2022 Autumn
I'm a graduate of Dongseo University majoring in industrial design until last year. I got an internship at Yard Studio in London and I'm learning a lot there with great designers.
So, I really wanted to experience what I learned in London to my juniors at college. By this workshop, I hoped that students would have a design perspective not only domestically but more globally.
That's how I feel really fortunate that this workshop was made like this. So, I'd like to say thank you so much once again to the professors and school officials who worked hard to make this workshop possible. And I'm so thankful to Yeonju and Claudio for teaching the students very passionately.
In this workshop, design major students in each field had to create one outcome, and I thought that students could learn a lot from there. More than expected, the students were very good at teamwork and the atmosphere of cooperation was so wonderful.
So I think the results of this workshop were really great. I hope that cooperation with Dongseo University and Yard Studio will continue well, not just this year.
And above all, I would like to say well done to our juniors who worked the hardest on this workshop. And I want to tell you that I am very proud of you as a senior.
I'm very much looking forward to you guys future.
