Your career as a designer can take a few different paths. Design agency jobs are very competitive, have large, well-known clients with big budgets, and long hours especially around due dates. These jobs are focused around large cities. Many companies find it more affordable to hire their own graphic designers— referred to as in-house. You are responsible for designing all the materials needed for this one company. The main benefit is you work a 9-5 day. The graphic design field is moving much more towards freelancers. The design field has a high percentage of freelancers—50 percent, give or take depending on the field. Digital Design 1 focuses on design theory; developing concepts and solutions for design problems; Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign; and a bit of photography. Digital Design 2 focuses on page layout skills and advancing your knowledge of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and design theory. Digital Design 3 focuses on web design using HTML, CSS, and Adobe Dreamweaver and creating an online portfolio. Digital Design 4 focuses on motion graphic techniques and incorporating motion design with all you have learned.

INSTRUCTION METHODS

A combination of book tutorials, videos, instructor demos and readings are used. Bring your curiosity!

ASSESSMENT METHODS Projects and critiques make up the majority of assessments. Each project has a rubric or a set of criteria. Every summative project has a response part where you get to fill in the blanks and tell me what you were thinking when you designed the piece. Pop quizzes are occasionally thrown in the mix to keep you on your toes. Formative projects allow you to perfect skills and summative projects allow you to show how amazing you’ve become.
