ARLENE SALOMON PORTFOLIO
ARLENE SALOMON
Arlene’s unique vision as an interior designer is informed and inspired by her background in fine art and landscape design. Her perspective brings hand-crafted aesthetic influence and an understanding of the broader aspects of the environment into the design process.
What she enjoys most about interior design is the way it emphasizes the depth of human experience as it relates to architecture and the world around us. She finds great inspiration in bringing a high level of beauty and harmony to built environments, residential and public spaces, and thrives on the challenge of introducing advanced concepts of sustainability into her projects.

01. A TRAIL OF ABUNDANCE
A Striking Blend of Historic Preservation and Regenerative Design
In developing a proposal to renovate a national park destination lodge, this project balances the constraints of historic rehabilitation guidelines and the value of collaborating with nature in reciprocal generosity, or in modern terms, regenerative design.
The design intent is to recreate the historic destination lodge and cabins as a leading edge green project with the influence of Pacific Northwest Native Indian art, culture and design.

CONCEPT STATEMENT
The concept refers to the cultural preservation of a typical Syrian household which was once described as “a gold kernel in a husk of clay”.
The overall interior will feel spacious, earthy, and modern, dotted with smaller, more intimate spaces with highly decorative, traditional architecture reminiscent of Syria and Iraq three millennia ago.
The design will feature typological Islamic elements such as courtyards, balconies, wall fountains and reception rooms that will transition into the other contemporary areas, lobby, cafe, classrooms and offices which will showcase net zero water and energy regenerative design.

04. HO’ OLA NA PUA
Healing Garden for a Therapeutic Facility on O’ahu’s North Shore
The study and project are a collaboration with project partners Katie Stephens, an historic preservation architect at Architects Hawai‘i Ltd (AHL) and Jessica Munoz, founder of Ho’ōla Nā Pua (New Life for Our Children), a nonprofit organization founded to prevent sex trafficking and providing care for children who have been exploited.
While historic structures on the property are being renovated, plans for a complimentary healing garden are being reviewed. The garden will feature native Hawaiian trees, shrubs, vines and Polynesian food crops as a traditional source of nourishment/ethnobotanical use and a historical timeline featuring art, photography and writing to share in the historical perspective of place.
