The Adventure Destinations Difference
Since 1997, Adventure Destinations has been sending travellers to Borneo & Malaysia to explore its vast attractions. Our itineraries have been hand selected to give you the best holiday experience at affordable prices. With our experienced team having travelled extensively throughout Borneo & Malaysia, we are able to offer you the best travel advice for your holiday. Adventure Destinations can offer accommodation and touring from budget to first class depending on your choice of style and price. There is something for everyone in Borneo & Malaysia irrespective of your age and budget. If you are unsure of a tour’s suitability for you personally, then ask your travel agent to consult with our Adventure Destination’s specialists. It is essential when planning your safari that you consider: length of time away; budget; standard of accommodation - camping, hotel or lodge style; preferred country or countries to visit and any other priorities. All of this information is necessary for us to ensure that we provide you with an itinerary that caters for all of your safari requests.
Borneo & Malaysia
Borneo and Malaysia entice the traveller seeking an exciting and different holiday. Regardless of whether your desire is a holiday relaxing at one of the fabulous beach resorts, a complete adventure safari including a climb up Mt Kinabalu, visiting some of the indigenous tribes staying in Longhouses, or a complete tailor made itinerary to your specific requirements, Borneo and Malaysia promise rewarding and memorable holiday experiences. Borneo - the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, the small Sultanate of Brunei and Indonesian Kalimantan - really satisfies the travellers spirit. A land covered with mountains and jungles bursting with colourful flora, fauna, untamed beauty and magnificent beaches. Borneo is a land of diversity with ancient traditions and customs; a potpourri of cultures - Malay, Chinese, Indonesians, Eurasians and Dayaks (the generic name used to define the multitude of different tribes). Borneo is home to a variety of wildlife, in particular, the orang utans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, rare hornbills, green turtles, elephants and rhinoceros. For the birding enthusiast, some 600 species of birds inhabit the coastal lowland, high mountain areas and cave systems. Malaysia offers swaying palms, clear blue skies and sandy beaches enticing the traveller to seek an experience “away from it all”. Kuala Lumpur, the capital, is a modern city but has never lost sight of its traditional Moorish heritage. Penang, “the Pearl of the Orient”, has always captured the imagination of travellers with its colonial past, gardens, hills and varieties of cuisine. Visit ancient Malacca, founded in the 15th Century, and journey to the colonial hill station areas of Fraser Hill and the Cameron Highlands, 5000ft above sea level. For those looking for something adventurous, a trip to Taman Negara National Park boasts a myriad of wildlife and a great variety of birdlife.
Individual Itineraries
In order to meet your specific travel requirements Adventure Destinations can tailor an individual itinerary for you. Use the itineraries given in the brochure as a starting point or design your own tour from the outset. Whichever way, our experienced staff can make the necessary arrangements. By formulating your own mixture of adventure and comfort you can visit the regions and cultures of your choice at a style and price to suit.
The Best Time to Travel
Borneo and Malaysia are north of the equator and have an equatorial climate ranging from 21oC to 32oC throughout the year and a high humidity. The exception is the higher areas of the Cameron Highlands and around Mt Kinabalu. Monsoon season brings heavy downpours on the east coast of Malaysia, north-eastern part of Sabah and western end of Sarawak from November to February. The west coast of Malaysia and Sabah experience a rainy season from September to October. The rain offers respite from the heat and should not be a deterrent to travel. However, Borneo and Malaysia can be considered as year round destinations, though some areas such as Taman Negara National Park and Mulu National Park close in the height of the Monsoon Season.
Style of Accommodation & Touring
There are several tours staying in a variety of accommodation. For the most part we use 3 star accommodation where possible, but in some areas we utilise the best available accommodation which may be a forest lodge or guesthouse. The majority of such accommodation has private facilities and we will make you aware of any accommodation without private facilities. Many of the hotels have excellent dining rooms and public areas with swimming pools. It is possible to upgrade accommodation to 4 or 5 star in most places. Throughout you will have the services of experienced guides. Transportation varies from aeroplanes, coaches, and mini buses, to speed boats and longboats.
Getting There
Malaysia and Borneo are well served by Malaysian Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Royal Brunei from Australia. Airfares change rapidly and there are often great deals with short ticketing deadlines, therefore we have not included airfares in our packages. Have your travel agent contact Adventure Destinations for a quotation on the many special airfares available.
Single Travellers
If you wish to join us on one of our tours and you are single but unable to pay the single supplement, Adventure Destinations will endeavour to match you up with a travel companion of the same sex with similar interests where possible*. This only applies on certain tours/safaris, so please check with our specialist staff. *Conditions apply
We carefully choose the operators and facilities we prefer to work with and on whom we can rely. This allows us the widest possible choice of quality arrangements.

Adventure Tours
Trekking, Walking & Boating
Whether your choice is climbing Mt Kinabalu, rafting, scuba diving, walking through the Mulu National Park, boating through the Taman Negara National Park or travelling by longboat up the Lemanak River, we have the professional staff and equipment to back you up. We use moderate accommodation in main towns and cities, forest lodges, long houses and smaller hotels elsewhere. These trips are for the more adventurous but that does not mean you have to be young - just young at heart. Of course you must have a high level of fitness to climb Mt Kinabalu - and in the case of boating and rafting trips you must be able to swim. The main point to remember is that your “adventure” is not a race so we ensure that a fairly consistent but leisurely pace is kept on all trips.
Health Requirements
It is mandatory that you contact your health adviser regarding health requirements that may be applicable in the countries you are visiting.

Some of the species found here are yet to be described. Pelagic also abound here, from large schools of scads, yellow tail barracudas, jacks, and many more. The many schools of medium to large hump head parrot fish are always an exciting encounter. There is also the opportunity to meet large rays, guitarfish and even manatees. For those more inclined towards the smaller denizens of the reefs, there are numerous juvenile fish, clown anemone fish, decorator and spider crabs, coral shrimps, nudibranchs, prawn gobies and abundance of rarer subjects such as jawfish, ornate ghost pipefish and frogfish.
This day tour provides a sample of what the waters around Sabah have to offer. With 2 boat dives, this popular package is convenient as the location is only 15 minutes away from the city of Kota Kinabalu. (L)
