SUMM!T 2016
Dear valued guest, The ADI President Thomas Vollmar, the Board of Directors and the ADI Team are delighted to be your hosts at the ADI Summ!t 2016! The setting for the ADI Summ!t is Mechelen (in French: Malines), a small city situated halfway on the major urban and industrial axis between Brussels and Antwerp. This year’s venue is Lamot Conference and Heritage Center, a multifunctional business center offering all comfortable facilities to make you feel at home and make our Summ!t a success! Read more about Mechelen and Lamot in this brochure. The ADI President will kick off the ADI Summit on Wednesday April 20 at 18:00 sharp. Besides the President’s address, the program includes special guest and keynote speaker Matt Ridley and of course the ADI Awards ‘Supplier of the Year’ and ‘Aftermarket Professional of the Year’. Discover all details and the list of participants in this brochure! We look forward to seeing You on April 20-21. The ADI team

Mechelen, a city at the centre of your interests. Why did the Irish missionary Rumbold (Rumoldus) decide to come to Mechelen in around 600 AD? Why did the city have its own port from 800 to 1200? Why was it granted exclusive rights to store grain, salt and fish 1301 – and other cities were not? Because of its central location, that’s why! The Duke of Burgundy, Charles the Bold, knew all about the benefits of being central, too. It was here that he focused his power in 1473, founding the Parliament of Mechelen, a council for all the regions of Burgundy. In 1506, Margaret of Austria, Charles the Bold’s granddaughter, became governor of the Low Countries, choosing Mechelen as her judicial and administrative centre. Under Emperor Charles V, Mechelen became one of the Seventeen Provinces of the Low Countries. In 1559, King Philip II of Spain proclaimed the city the seat of an archdiocese – which it still is today as the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels.
Saint Rumbold’s Tower, Mechelen city center
Talking about being a central point, in 1452 the good people of Mechelen began work on building Saint Rumbold’s Tower, which soars to a height of 97 metres. In 1835, the first train journey in continental European left Brussels for Mechelen, the hub of Belgium’s network of railways. And today, Mechelen is the city with the highest number of listed buildings in Flanders. Mechelen continues to flourish today in many ways, including as a conference city. We proudly stand at the centre of your interests. Welcome! Lamot Conference- and Heritage Center Lamot is a household name in the city of Mechelen: both as a fysical urban landmark and a focal point in collective memory. Once a brewery and the production center for the famous Lamot-Beer, the site was radically renovated between 2000 and 2005. Today the former Lamot brewery is one of the most daring examples of contemporary architecture in Mechelen and certainly the most successful example of the integration of monumental heritage and urban renewal.

ADI Awards The ADI Summit traditionally features two awards: the “Supplier of the Year” rewarding the ADI contract supplier standing out for its excellent service to the ADI Partners (last year won by Philips) and the “Aftermarket Professional of the Year”. The latter is a trophy honoring an aftermarket professional (M/F) from the industry or trade for his/her outstanding attitude towards the automotive aftermarket. In previous years the award was given to Olivier Roux, Josep Bosch, Petra Engels, Robert Hanser, Michael Söding and Stéphane Antiglio. The ADI Summit 2016 is a new opportunity to reward your “Aftermarket Professional of the Year”. The winner will be proclaimed during the ADI Summ!t on Wednesday April 20.

Matt Ridley: the Evolution of Everything Following another annual tradition, we have invited as this year’s keynote speaker Matt Ridley. In a 1 hour’s speech Matt Ridley will share with us exciting views that he developed in his oeuvre, associating them with our economic playing field and the activities we share as parts producers and trade companies. Matt Ridley is the author of provocative books on evolution, genetics and society. He argues that human beings’ ability to connect, collaborate and co-operate gives our species an often underestimated capacity for change and social progress. Matt worked for the Economist for nine years as science editor, Washington correspondent and American editor, before becoming a self-employed writer, speaker and businessman. He currently writes for the Wall Street Journal and The Times. Books by Matt Ridley: The Rational Optimist (2010) and The Evolution of Everything (2015)
