Objective

North East Wind

The objective of this project was to achieve “Design Prototype” level (beyond Platinum) under Greenmark rating systems for new buildings (version NRB 4.1) and show adequate consideration in regards of Energy efficiency, Water efficiency, Sustainable construction & Indoor environmental quality.

1

Our idea was to design a place that will provide people multi- dimensional experience, which will have no clear front or rear, and blend into the existing cityscape with its permeability & greenery. Thus our vision was to create tropical climate responsive, energy efficient design that would create urban harmony, facilitate good health and well-being. We wanted to take into consideration all social, environmental and economical parameters and combine those considerations into a harmonious design. The design team was composed of multi background professionals. The design process was, after a conceptual design was done it was analyzed and verified with simulation software for natural ventilation, heat gain and daylighting. According to the simulation results changes were made to improve the design and process repeated several times to arrive at the final design.

BRTC INTERNATIONAL BUS TERMINAL

A Sustainable & Comprehensive interchange,Office & public Space B.ARCH l Design Studio X l 2011 I Duration-12 weeks l Site: Motijheel, Dhaka, Bangldesh l Site Area:5.2 acre

BRTC (Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation) International Bus terminal is currently under facilitated & disorganized, with no proper traffic management. More over there is no proper passenger facility, or proper arrival and departure bays . The proposed site is opposite Kamlapur Rail station, so both together it creates additional problem in traffic flow of the area. The proposal of the project was to design the international bus terminal at Motijheel with proper passenger facility, a bus service facility, which is able to handle more buses per hour and can accommodate more bus parking, along with a commercial building. In addition which also caters to both inter-district and international buses and solve traffic flow problem of that area.

The analysis and development of the road network pattern was done at the inception.

Ground floor Plan

Then due to shortage of space in the site, the bus terminal was divided into different levels. Finally the zoning was of the terminal was done such that the arrival is on the ground floor and departure is on the second floor, both of which were connected by a common floor containing restaurents, shops, serving to people both coming to arrival & departure. The entire shape and elevation of the building was derived from the circulation pattern of the buses. Since the proposal was first of its kind in Bangladesh the form was thought as something iconic, innovative and ahead of its time.

06

The structure was thought of as semi-monocogue, exoskeleton structure, where the building is supported from structures placed outside, connected with core viatir beams, to support the entire building. The entire shape and elevation of the building was derived from the circulation pattern of the buses.

The roof of the terminal was broken so that light could enter ,and stack ventilation of the entire terminal could be done

FINE ARTS INSTITUTION

A Space that Nutures Art & Creativity B.ARCH l Design Studio IX l 2011 I Duration-12 weeks l Site: Gulshan, Dhaka, Bangldesh l Site Area:121239sft

Fifth year is the transition period from academic to professional life. In profession it is extremely important that we follow government rules and regulation while designing. This semester the challenge was to produce an architecturally sound design combining form, function and government rules and regulation Gulshan area does not have much recreational space. The main idea was to create a environment which nutures the creativity of the students and provides recreational space for the people of that area. The building was designed in a way such that all the studios faces north and receives north light .

HOUSING AT UTTARA Habitat in a Park

B.ARCH l Design Studio Vll l 2010 I Duration-12

weeks l Site: Uttara, Dhaka, Bangldesh l Group Member- 3

Due to huge increase in the population of Dhaka, the pressure on land for residential use has been very high. Housing development strategies are mostly targeted towards high income group but is not accessbible to lower income and lower middle income group .In this project Rajuk has taken initiative for addressing the housing problem in Dhaka City, 22000 apartment at Uttara Residential Area is one such project.

UNDERLYING CORE IDEAS The blocks would be arranged such that there would be hierarchy of courtyard serving as a gathering space as well as a play area for the community. Road network is such that there is no vehicular access inside the building compound hence, the green spaces as provided by the courtyard is uninterrupted. Building blocks staggered in height to enhance ventilation and play of light and all units face either the internal courtyard or roadside.

A Vibrant & Interactive Space B.ARCH l Design Studio V l 2009 I Duration-5 weeks l Site: Kalabagan, Dhaka, Bangldesh

The theme of this project was to design a youth club, a positive environment for interaction in which the young people will achieve mental, physical and emotional growth.

15

The exercise for this project started with an abstraction of what represents youth to us. From that abstractin later the space and form of the youth club was inspired.

Ground Floor Plan

The concept was to create a vibrant space that represents the adventurousness, enthusiasm, passion, determination and also innocence of youth. The site was surrounded by lake and beside an existing football field. While designing it was taken into account and each function and space was with a scenic view. The main functions of the club were lounge, multipurpose hall, games area, health centre, library, souvenir shop and swimming pool.

UCO Bank was situated in one of the underground structures of the Bhadra plaza. Historically it was a prison. The idea was to convert existing underground structure into a small museum and on the ground level it was designed to be a sculptural glass fountain. Provision was also kept to allow daylight into the museum downstairs through small glass domes on the roof.
