“ I have been a member of ADI for about 10 years. Of most value to me is the annual conference, which I have attended about 8 times. The National Conference benefits me because of the skill and experience of the presenters, the range of sessions from which to choose, and the opportunity to network with other implementers. Most important through, is the practice one gains during the sessions following modeling from the presenters - it’s not just TALK from the presenters. Invariably, the handouts they provide are practical and applicable.” – 2011 ADI Conference Attendee

D2 Essentials for Special Education Direct Instruction Implementations
Carolyn Schneider .............................................
Intended Audience: Administrators, Special Education Supervisors and Directors, School Psychologists and Coaches Experience level: Advanced
NEW SESSION! This session will focus on meeting the needs of Special Education students. Adaptations and extra scaffolding will be explained and participants will view excerpts of special education students in various programs. Program progressions will be discussed and information on curriculum decisions will be included. Various special setting models will be explored, and how to plan for the best grouping and scheduling. This is a challenge for every special setting classroom. Direct Instruction provides the foundation for special needs students to achieve mastery and experience academic gains. This can only happen if the programs are being taught to fidelity, monitored well and decisions on modifications are wisely selected.
Patrice Riggin .............................................
This session provides training for teaching Connecting Math Concepts, Comprehensive Edition, Levels A, B. and C. Level A begins with the most basic math concepts— counting. From there, counting skills are expanded to the concepts of more and less, addition and subtraction, and place value. Students systematically apply knowledge of these concepts to estimation, money, and problem solving. In Level B, students learn a conceptual model for addition and subtraction facts, computational problems, and story problems. Other concepts taught in Level B include measurement, money, time, geometry, and mental arithmetic. The session provides a content overview and practice in effective presentation techniques.

E1 Reading Mastery Signature Grades 2 and 3; Reading Mastery Plus III & IV; Horizons C-D
E2 Essentials for Writing
Intended Audience: Teachers of students performing at Grade Levels 2–4 Experience level: All
The goal of Essentials for Writing is to prepare high school students to pass the writing component of the high school exit exams in most states, especially in California and Florida. This program may be seen as a sequel to Expressive Writing 2 in its emphasis on writing. Students learn to write retells, persuasive arguments, descriptions, autobiographical sketches, responses to literature, and stories with specific themes. Different from Reasoning and Writing, there is less logic and science included in this program. To pass high school exit exams, students also need to read fluently. These skills are provided by Corrective Reading and are not included here.

F5 Supplemental Interventions for Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary at the Intermediate and Secondary Levels
Robert Harris ............................................. Intended Audience: Teachers of students in grades 3-12 Experience level: All
NEW SESSION! This session covers two highly acclaimed supplemental programs, Read to Achieve (Vocabulary) and Reading Success (Reading Comprehension). Addressing the needs of struggling adolescent readers within an RtI framework requires a combination of highly developed instructional delivery skills coupled with a well-designed, direct instruction curriculum At the intermediate and secondary levels, nowhere are the needs more pronounced than in reading comprehension (Reading Success) and vocabulary (Read to Achieve). This highly engaging and interactive session covers both of these programs. Read to Achieve is designed to provide teachers of students in grades 6 - 12 with the instructional tools necessary to implement Read to Achieve and address critical aspects of adolescent literacy including word study, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and motivation. Implementation and assessment considerations will be explored indepth to ensure high levels of student performance across a wide range of contexts. Reading Success is a supplementary reading comprehension program published by SRA. There are four levels: Reading Success: Foundations, for students who read at
approximately a beginning third-grade level, and Levels A–C of Reading Success, for students who read at beginning fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade levels. This session covers the scope and sequence of Reading Success, explains how the program is used, and provides training on techniques to get the most out of the program. Although Reading Success is not a test preparation program per se, this session can be useful for raising the test scores where experienced Reading Mastery and Horizons teachers don’t always see student achievement adequately reflected in test results.
F6 Managing Disruptive Behavior in the Classroom
Tricia Berg ............................................. Intended Audience: Teachers K–12, Administrators, Assistants Experience level: All
