WELCOME

With a rapidly changing world, exposing yourself to new ideas and mindsets is important to ensure you are prepared for the future.

This handbook is a general guide to what we expect from our students and parents. If anything is unclear, feel free to reach out to a member of staff or directly to the Rize Enrichment Programs team.

Today’s students will face new opportunities and challenges that require new thinking and a new kind of learning. At Rize Enrichment Programs, our mission is to help every student reach their full potential by exposing them to new ideas and new mindsets so they are ready for whatever the future holds. We do this by offering students of all levels a unique after-school program designed to strengthen existing skills and develop new

ones. We teach not only subjects that are central to academic learning, such as math, but also those that are relevant to the 21st century and are culturally important, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Arabic. Rize classes provide a fun learning environment where students feel inspired not only to learn, but also to explore their own interests and be themselves. Rize Student Handbook | Page 4

Your feedback is important to us at ADEK and the Rize team and will assist in improving our services, performance and productivity. We appreciate your feedback and will use it to evaluate changes and make improvements in our services.

Attendance is mandatory to ensure students benefit from the courses offered. Students are expected to attend at least 80% of classes for which they have registered. As per our outlined policy, students who are absent without prior notification may lose their place in the program due to increasing demand from students eager to join. If you have special circumstances that prevent attendance, please inform your teacher or one of our team members located in the school. ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES Attendance is a key indicator of performance and commitment, and so must be consistent if students are to benefit from the program. All Rize schools shall adhere to the following procedures: • Only students who have registered for the Rize Enrichment Programs may enter Rize classes. • Students will be in class every day and will arrive on time for class. • Classes begin on the hour or on the half hour. Students arriving after that time will be marked as being late. • Accurate daily attendance data for each student is collected before or during the first lesson and entered into the online Rize attendance system before the end of the day. • Teachers will maintain accurate daily

attendance data for each student, and report data daily to the Rize Team. • Students must only be picked-up by an authorized person as per the students release information provided as part of the Students & Guardian Information & Declaration Form filled during registration period. • Instances of students with repeated unexcused absences will be directed to the Rize Management Team for resolution. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS & SUCCESS STORIES

REPORTING STUDENTS’ PROGRESS

At the beginning of each phase students will do a Pre-Assessment. The purpose of this assessment is to highlight student strengths and areas that need ongoing support. At the end of each phase students will take a PostAssessment. This will highlight areas where students have made progress and identify areas where students need further support. Students will also take short quizzes during each phase to help inform teachers of ongoing progress. All results will be submitted by teachers and stored on an electronic platform provided by ADEK. Results will be shared with parents. Meetings will be scheduled with parents on specific pre-communicated days at the mid and end of each term to review results and discuss performance.

As well as reporting academic performance it is also important to celebrate and share stories of success. Success stories might include: • New friendships forged • Lessons that students have learned • Positive moments • Academic breakthroughs • Students’ accomplishments Noteworthy highlights and success stories will be shared on an online interactive platform. Students will also be encouraged to share stories by providing incentives using the Rize Games App.

This section establishes an emphasis on parent/guardian involvement in children’s education at the Rize schools.

Parents/Guardians will:

Parents/guardians play an essential role in their children’s education. Rize teachers, staff and parents/guardians share responsibility for ensuring that parents/guardians are actively involved in their children’s education.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to participate in their children’s education. Parents/guardians are encouraged to keep informed of their children’s progress through the website, and through the teachers. Parents/guardians are encouraged to support teachers in helping children learn.

• Give or deny consent for their children to be recorded, photographed, or interviewed in writing at the beginning of each term.

Rize teachers and staff are expected to communicate with parents/guardians and may use a variety of methods including SMS, email, mobile and/landline calls, letters, internet portals and in-person meetings. At the beginning of each term there will be opportunities for parents/guardians to visit the school and meet with the Rize teachers and Team. STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

SCHOOL VISITORS

This section establishes requirements for school visitors in order to protect the safety of students and staff in Rize schools.

RESTRICTIONS ON VISITORS • Visitors must sign in when arriving at the school and sign out when leaving. • Visitors must not enter classrooms unless invited by the teacher or accompanied by a school and/or Rize staff member. • The content of presentations or discussions by visitors to students must be agreed to by Rize management prior to the visit and must not encroach on controversial or inappropriate topics. • Visitors who are not relatives of students in the school or who have not been invited by the school or Rize staff are not allowed. • Visitors must not be left alone with students. This is to protect both the visitor and the student, in case of any harm or accident occurring. Staff should ensure that any communication between visitors and students is appropriate and does not breach prior agreed content.

It is, therefore, most important that every parent, student and teacher associated with Rize Enrichment Programs appreciates the importance of co-operating in a community with a common concern for the well-being of all, and for the promotion of education standards and behaviour. To achieve this goal, the Code of Conduct forms an integral part of the Rize Enrichment Programs. 1. PERSONAL CONDUCT It is essential that students develop respect for themselves as individuals and as students of Rize Enrichment Programs. We, therefore, require students to conduct themselves at all times in a respectful manner. Offensive behaviour including bullying, the use of bad language, theft or causing injury to another and academic dishonesty (such as cheating and plagiarism) will not be tolerated. 2. RESPECT FOR PROPERTY Out of respect for others, students are expected to gain permission to use another person’s property. This applies regardless of whether the property belongs to an individual, the School or Rize Enrichment Programs. Students should not bring valuable items to the program.

3. PARTICIPATION Rize Enrichment Programs will be offering a range of courses and activities as the year progresses. Students are encouraged to be 100% committed and they should encourage the involvement of their friends and family members. 4. COMMITMENT When a student joins Rize Enrichment Program, they must accept all the expectations involved in that program. If a student does not respect the commitment they may be removed from the program. Rize Enrichment Programs requires minimum 80% attendance to remain in the program. 5. ATTENDANCE Given the significant investment in this program and the need to maintain a certain percentage of attendance, namely 80%, students must adhere to these attendance requirements in order to remain in the program. Except in the case of illness, a student must be in attendance on all days as prescribed by the program, unless leave of absence has been requested in writing and permission granted in advance.

Rize Student Handbook | Page 26

Rize Student Handbook | Page 25

School visitors are defined as adults (including parents/guardians) who temporarily enter a school for purposes including, but not limited to, school events and meetings, observation, early pick up of students, provision of services, maintenance, etc.

Rize Enrichment Programs is a community where learning takes place in a co-operative environment which fosters the physical, mental and emotional growth of each individual student.

HOMEWORK

Rize Student Handbook | Page 27

This section establishes guidelines for homework assignments in Rize Enrichment Programs. Homework is seen as an opportunity to deepen student understanding, build essential skills, and prepare students for new material to be learnt. Research supports the use of small amounts of age-appropriate quality homework assignments as a tool for improving student learning. Rize teachers can assign small amounts of homework. Such homework should be measured and not interfere with their regular school homework. Rize teachers can assign homework either from their own course material or they can encourage students to use the Rize Games App.
