11 ESSENTIALS
You need to pack when planning a backcountry trip:
1. Map and compass. 2. Flashlight or headlamp (with extra batteries). 3. Insulated water bottle (water will freeze quickly in the cold backcountry). 4. First-aid kit (band aids, duct tape, medicines). 5. Extra food in addition to your lunch or snacks (small
Gatorade powder pack for energy, power bars, peanut butter, etc.). 6. Fire starters ( matches or lighter and something that will light quickly). 7. Whistle. 8. Knife or multipurpose tool 9. Sunscreen materials (sunglasses or goggles and sunscreen lotion). 10. Extra clothing (down or primaloft jacket, long johns, extra gloves and socks and perhaps even an emergency bivouac or lightweight sleeping bag). 11. A second cell phone charger (portable and fully charged).
