PETAL CHAIR In this project, this furniture is designed for Bienenstock library furniture competition 2015-2016. Petal Chair is inspired by the motif of kawung, one of Inonesia’s traditional batik motifs. The kawung motif cosists of many curves, providing many opportunities to explore the use of wood bending. Art nouveau inspired furniture has organic sapes that stylize nature much like the kawung motif. The kawung motif itself means hope, long life, and purity. This geometric yet natural motif is based on the kawung fruit and lotus flower. The goal is to create a design that could represent the characteristic of the kawung motif in a simple, light, modern furniture form.

WISHFUL THINKING Tradition is an esential component of mindful life. Tradition calls us to reflect and act with intent. because there is an enormous range of tradition among various faiths and cultures, I have attempted to draw on the universal elements. The toughtful intentions in saying a prayer, dreams that we’re having in night, repeating a phrase are common across many traditions. As a way of universalizing, we might say these actions are similar to making a wish. Often in making a wixh much like in other traditions, there is an internal thught (the wish) and a externalaction. Through this project I have explored these elements and sought to provide a locus for this activity. The design represents the act and gestures of wishing. It as a small cabinet to keep something as precious as a wish. The acrylic provides a mystical, reverent space allowing for an abstracted view of the contents keep inside. The stepped interior frames the contents and suggest illumination. The doors are the most important part as they shroud the interior. The edge has a life edge texture and gap so that people could see directly what is inside and could give a sense of curiosity. This small cabinet is intended to hang on the wall slightly above picture height as human gestures of looking upwards when wishing.

BUTTERFLY HINGE DINING TABLE This furniture is a wooden dining table made of solid wood for the table top and steel for the feet. It used wooden butterfly hinge to conntect the middle part of the table. The location of the butterfly hinges are placed carefully so the table could look more dinamic and good. Not too much and not to little. As the size of the table is big and using solid wood for the top, the first idea of using solid wood for the feet is changed to use steel. The design and structure of the feet is still the same from the idea of using wood, just using different material and color. The side of the table top and the middle is not to be cut so it would look more natural and dinamyc.

DETACHABLE PARTITION Partition is a furniture that function is to devide some spaces or area and also give some privacy to any users from one side of the partition and the other side. Partition could also used to create new space or area in the same room that has a diffeent function from overall of the room. This partition is designed for menara merdeka daybar jakarta. It is detachable and the small size of the partition would not take many space. So it is good to devidde some area which have a small space especially to devide areas between in the seating area. If the people would like to have private area, the partition would be used and if the people came in a large grroup, the partition could be removed to make a larger space. This transition room contain a few elements from the room before and the room after the transition room thus this room has combinaion of those room elements. The furniture that designed for the transition room should be a furniture that the function is could be used only for a while. But that doesn’t means that we must always chang ethe furniture. It only means that the people who uses this furniture only use it for siple and short term activity. This furniture is a group project of 8 people and although most of the work is a group effort such as building the furniture, my main role in this project is as a designer and concept making with 2 other pleople in the group.

SHAKER TABLE
This project is to learn about woodworking. We’re building a traditional shaker table.and we could make the table legs tappered or turned according to our own choice. We also have to put some engraving on one of the surface of the table. I decided to put an engraving based on kawung batik motif from Indonesia on each side drawers. It’s kind of act as a little surprise effect on the design. It is also because the surface of the top table and aprons already have nice pattern from the wood it self and decided not to disturb it. Thus decidng to have the engravement on the side drawers.
