A poem a day, for April
- Aditi Subramanian
And then, some poetry... In the summer of 2021, I found myself bored, longing to do something exciting. When I saw the National Poetry Writing Month Challenge or NaPoWriMo — a fun project to 30 poems in April — it seemed perfect! When I started, I didn’t realise how difficult it would be to write everyday. I was a writer, wasn’t I? But my mind went blank on several days, the prompts haunted my dreams, and sometimes, inspiration was nowhere to be found. As I pushed through the process, I deciphered new thoughts and experimented with my words. And even when it felt like I had nothing to say, the words somehow found their way. The country continued to burn around me; poetry became my solace. Cut to the end of April and it felt extremely gratifying to actually write 30 poems in as many days. I know for sure now that this is only the start of a lifetime of poetry and of laying my soul bare on paper. Happy reading, folks!
