EXHIBITION CENTER

India is undergoing urbanization very raipdly and developing Indian cities have not been able to cater to the growing requirement of the Social and Public Space for the new urban population.

EXHIBITION HALLS + OFFICE SPACES + INCUBATOR+ F&B + OUTDOOR EVENT SPACE + OUTDOOR EXHIBITION

My project involved the proposal for an Exhibition and Convention Center in the emerging city of Pimpri- Chinchwad in Maharashtra , India. which faces the same problem due to rapid urbanization. Through my project titled ‘The Third Space’ I tried to address the issue by designing a piece of Architecture which created a Universal social space , which promoted dialouge and interaction , portraying the youthful potential of the emerging city to India and the World . The project was designed understanding the symbiotic relationship between the social space and public architecture , creating a icon for the city which can contribute towards its development . The Final Year project also involved techincal resolution of the proposal in terms of construction, building services and sustainability.

What Is the Third Space? Our lives are lived in one of 3 places: Residence/Home, Workplace, Third Space (Social Space). Ideal third Spaces offer the users the ability to Exchange ideas, have a good time, and build relationships. The whole Idea of an Convention center is to exchange ideas, build connections and relationships ,so a convention center will only be successful in its program if it’s an ideal third space.

CONCEPT

Convention center MainStreet

The convention center design tries to create a piece of architecture environment where creative thinking and innovation is fostered .

Rigid ---- Broken Solids

Courtyard Meeting Space

The building is envisioned as breaking the rigidity of thought so the form evolves from rigid cubiodal volumes to more free-flowing ones .

Landscaped Meeting space Courtyard Meeting Space

The design for the convention center offers multiple forms of meeting spaces ranging from traditional formal meeting spaces , casual meeting spaces, homely meeting rooms, outdoor meeting areas , landscaped garden meeting areas, workshop spaces etc.

CHARACTERISTICS OF INNOVATIVE ENVIORNMENTS

ADJACENT POSSIBLE The adjacent possible in the environment offers enough potential for hunches to incubate into good ideas then innovation can happen in the place.

SERENDIPITY A hunch or an idea requires an environment where surprising new connections can be formed. Serendipity is the term used to describe the power of accidental connection. +

LIQUID NETWORKS Two essential qualities of a liquid network are: 1.) It should have the capacity to create new connections. 2.) It should have a randomizing environment that encourages collision between all elements in a system.

ERROR

PLATFORMS

Good ideas are likely to emerge in environments that contain a certain amount of noise and error. A good idea has to be correct at the basic level. Noise free environments become too sterile and predictable in their output. +

+

Most hotbeds of innovation have similar physical spaces associated with them. Platforms are spaces which make people think differently, an environment where different kinds of thoughts can combine and collide. .

REFLECTIONS Academic Project Typology: City Museum at Sewri,Mumbai. Year : 2017-18 Fifth Year B.Arch Guide : Ar. Samir Naik

Introduction : The site was located in the midst of Mumbai’s Eastern waterfront , which offered an opportunity to revitalize the eastern waterfront of the city which has lost its relevance after the port and its ancillary activities have been relocated. Abandoned warehouses, empty Oil tankers are spread across the landscape rendering the site isolated from the city. The main challenge lied in creation of a melting pot of cultural activities for the city in middle of the abandoned context of the Bombay Port Trust . The project was envisioned as a starting point in the revitalization of Mumbai’s Eastern waterfront , which is critical in a city like Mumbai which has a few social and public spaces. The Porous Edge: The Edge of the site is designed in a way that it remains active throughout the day by means of planning various informal gathering places like small amphitheaters , sculpture gardens etc. The porous edge tries to tackle the isolation of the site and make it more public friendly. Design Massing : The massing of the proposed design is done in a hierarchy and a linear configuration similar to the city of Mumbai in its configuration. Each transition between the spaces is designed in a way that the relation with the user and the objects in the museum changes every time with the user experiencing the object at various scales and height changing the dynamics of the relationship in every space of the museum. The Void: The void is a transition space designed as an attractor element in the museum . The void acts as a window into the activities happening inside the museum for people traveling on the elevated eastern freeway which is the only vantage site for the site , making a statement and attracting visitors into the museum.

The Museum Program: The program of the museum included the main elements which give the essence of the city of Mumbai . Textile Section hosting a permanent section of the museum dedicated to mumbai’s industrial past as a hub of textile manufacturing along with a section dedicated to display the works of contemporary textile designers in the city . Bollywood and Mumbai are inseparable a separate section of the museum is dedicated to bollywood and Indian cinema . Architecture and Cartography section dedicated to promoting innovation in architecture and design and as a forum to discuss the city’s Urban development and issues .

Architecture Documentation Project Year : 2015 Third Year B.Arch Guide : Ar. Abhishek Kadam, Ar. Samir Naik . Group Project 15 members

Introduction: The group exercise started with an intention to learn how to do documentation. We selected a structure which was almost 600 years old and had a peculiar style of architecture. What fascinated us was the fact that we live in an age where we have modern technologies and tools to do precise construction. But those who built the Shree Laxminarayan Temple did it with an archaic technology and did it with perfection. We realized that it was critical to preserve these captivating technologies through documentation and to make them available for people to realize their significance. These structures are a rich part of our existence and losing them is like having a tree without roots. With this motive we carried out the entire documentation of the temple which won us the national excellence award at INTACH and COA Heritage Awards. We published a book ‘Approach to Documentation’ bringing forth the need and the method to document such unlisted structures of heritage value with the Laxminarayan temple as an Illustration.
