As someone who has recently graduated and is looking to gain practical experience, I am interested in the synergy between design as a process and it’s manifestation in the physical world. With an eye for detailing, I am keen on exploring different building materials and how they coalesce to encompass spaces. Using different drawing techniques and graphics to illustrate a project is what I always try to experiment with. I have a strong sense of perceiving frames, which makes photography a hobby as well as an integral part of my skills. This portfolio is a collection of my academic as well as professional projects, developed during undergraduate studies. The
work
included in this portfolio highlights my approach and ideology, that

01 Cu ltu re a n d Co m m u n i ty Undergraduate Thesis | Academic Jan 2020 - May 2020 Superviser: Dr. Tarush Chandra Location: Shimla, India The objective of the project was to design a space for the community. While taking cues from the historical instances and context, programmation evolved around the requirements. Earthy materials and the built interspersed amongst trees, devise the architectural character.

what is culture? introduction & site
Cultures are complex systems with many qualitative relationships. With the individual aspects integral within the whole system, each aspect of the system can only be qualitatively evaluated as to its influence on the larger system. Societies and cultures are systems of interconnected values and should not be broken down into a series of cause-effect relationships.
In architectural design, this approach allows for a much more meaningful explanation of past building forms and their planning. In my opinion, architecture is a service, giving back to the society. Architecture provides instances of human interaction. People meet and exchange dialogues. An architecture for people to share their thoughts, know their roots and move towards a better future, is what I imagine.

The site is located in the town of Taradevi, which is at a distance of 7 kms from the city of Shimla. The site forms a part of what is known as the ‘Taradevi Ridge’. Being on a higher altitude as compared to the surroundings, the site offers panoramic views of the valley towards west and the city of Shimla towards east. Having a strong historical context, the narrow-gauge line of the Kalka-Shimla railway line cuts through the site, running North-South. This divides the site into two parts, one of them being the top of the ridge and other being foot of the ridge. Dense vegetation is significant with towering Pine trees, spread throughout the landscape.

The ridge of the site is the ideal spot to locate the building as it offers access from the road, as well as views towards east and west. The footprint of the building is shaped by the presence of dense vegetation and topography underneath. Programmatic arrangement is governed by the hierarchy of

requirements.
Courtyards and skylights are deployed to let the trees grow within the building. The circulation spine sits adjacent to the railway line, hence user imitating the direction of the train. The administration areas are placed adjacent to the entrance. Library and seminar spaces have been clubbed into one block with a large footprint. The cafe is tucked between two courtyards. Performing spaces are placed on the relatively flat patch of the site. The user crosses the bridge for the exhibition spaces, west of the railway track. The bridge sort of acts as the first exhibit of history, having been standing there since decades.

The facade of the blocks is built using stone masonry for the walls and wooden louvers. Stone being a local material, provides thermal mass for the internal spaces and imparts an ancient aesthetic to the built mass. yoga retreat Dharamshala
The yoga retreat is conceptualised as an extrusion of this terraced landscape. One could imagine that an incidental geological formation pushed up a section of the terraces in the shape of a malformed asymmetrical three winged boomerang. A series of winding paths across the site, eventually converges in a central garden. While the three ‘wings’ of the boomerang move away from the central garden, the volumes gradually grow to house additional program. The silhouette of the building thus becomes synonymous with the valleys in the mountain range. The building volume is punctured with wedge like cut-outs to create light wells and large openings to frame views. Courtyards, verandahs and light wells surround existing trees. Along the curved interiors of the structure, the views from the openings in the semi-open garden are moments of pause and quiet.

forest eco resort Andhra Pradesh
The Vanavihari Resorts is an initiative undertaken by the local government of Andhra Pradesh. Their main goal is to set up earning models to spread environmental awareness amongst travellers. In order to do so, they are planning to establish premium, boutique eco-resorts in various forest reserves across the state. The masterplan for each site proposes to position larger scale public programs in relation to important landscape features. A large natural pond, a historical water harvesting tank, or a clearing in a forest act as anchors to position the buildings. he accommodation and other private programs however are scattered more inconspicuously on the edges of water bodies. The structure, based on the powerHYDE construction system, are simple in construct and materialization. This system developed together with billionBricks ensures an easy and straightforward execution.

the MiCabin Uttarakhand
The MiCabin is a compact combination of tools for survival. The mountain cabin offers the basic comforts of a home. It provides an original, yet rustic experience of the mountain life. In a compact 45m 2, it packs in a bedroom, bathroom, pantry, lounge and loft for extra guests In order to reduce the interference on the rock surfaces, the shape of the facetted elevations are determined by the points at which the volume hits the geography. The almost “crystal-like” volume resonates with the surrounding rocky outcrops. This cabin is a device to observe the dramatic, rugged, mountainscape of the Himalayas. While perched on a precipitous cliff of mica rock, one experiences the cabin to balance on a precarious but exhilarating position overlooking the canyon. Work done: Model of the cabin building

building with containers rethinking the displaced life
The realm of the rural has been neglected since ages. As a result, a portion of the inhabitants of this planet, have been forced to move backwards when the society is progressing forwards. Communities are deprived of basic necessities. These communities inherit rich culture and traditions. Architecture envelops these elements and has the ability to showcase what is within, through the poetics of spaces. In this contemporary world, modernism is profound. Huge structures are dominating the skylines of the planet. Cities are growing vertically, and the landscape is conceived as mere horizontal. This is an attempt to create a structure, that can reach the remote corners of the world, an attempt to frame the displaced life.
25
We propose a flexible structure, using exoskeleton of a shipping container. A combination of hooke’s joint and the components of the container, allow the entire structure to reduce it’s dimensions, making it compact and imparting versatility in usage. The altered frame can render innumerable configurations. The structure can be manipulated to formulate spaces, allowing people to interact, mutually and with the structure.
