Proposed Activity Questions Based On A Story
1. To measure statistically, the level of collaboration achieved in a particular Virtual Environment. 2. To compare it statistically with the level of collaboration achieved in the Real World and in other Virtual Environments. 3. To statistically demonstrate the importance of Team Work and Collaboration to the participants.
Features of Virtual Environment to be Tested & Compared: 1. Ease of Communication 2. Ease of Reading a Document/Image with Text In-World 3. Ease of Editing a Document In-World
Detailed Activity – To be done in the Virtual Environment
•
The participants are given a story to read in a restricted time.
•
A list of objective questions titled “Questions Based On The Story” is given to each person In-World.
•
Each person is asked to respond to the questions individually. After the participant has answered the questions, he has to share his/her answers with the activity moderator.
•
After all the participants have shared their answers with the activity moderator, they have to form a group of 5, discuss the answer for each question amongst themselves, have a consensus and answer the questions as a team.
•
The group after it has answered all the questions, shares its group answers with the activity moderator.
Rules–For Activity in Virtual Environment
•
All the participants are given equal time to go through the Story.
•
During the individual evaluation, the participants can’t Voice Chat/Text Chat among themselves. The participants can chat with the Activity Moderator in case they need any help.
•
Till the time all the participants have shared their individual answers, the group activity can’t begin.
•
The answers to the questions and the result would be shown to participants only after the group has submitted its answers.
Sample Story-Virtual Environment
A businessman had just turned off the lights in the store when a man appeared and demanded money. The owner opened the cash register. The contents of the cash register were scooped up, and the man sped away. A member of the police force was notified promptly.

Detailed Activity – To be enacted in the Real World
•
The participants are given a story to read in a restricted time.
•
A list of objective questions titled “Questions Based On The Story” is given to each person as a printout.
•
Each person is asked to respond to the questions individually. After the participant has answered the questions, he has to pass his sheet with the activity moderator.
•
After all the participants have shared their sheet with the activity moderator, they have to form a group of 5, discuss the answer for each question amongst themselves, have a consensus and answer the questions as a team.
•
The group after it has answered all the questions, shares its group answer sheet with the activity moderator.
Rules–For Activity in the Real World
•
All the participants are given equal time to go through the Mystery Case.
•
During the individual evaluation, the participants can’t talk among themselves. The participants can only talk to the Activity Moderator in case they need any help.
•
Till the time all the participants have shared their individual answer sheet, the group evaluation can’t begin.
•
The answers to the questions and the result would be shown to participants only after the group has submitted its answers.

Then What ?
After the activity is done in a Virtual Environment and in the Real World…Then what??? 1. The activity is repeated for another Virtual Environment and in Real World alongside. The story for both has to be different.
2. The activity is done in Real World multiple times. An average of the result of the Real World activity would finally be taken into account. This is done to reduce the probability of error. 3. At the end of this activity, we have the “Statistical Data Tabulation” for each of the Virtual Environments and the “Average Statistical Data Tabulation” for the Real World.
Finally What Do We Do With The Statistics ?
The “Average Group Score for the different Virtual Worlds should be as close as possible, which would be an indicator of the Story and Questions of the same difficulty level.
What the Graph Speaks of each Virtual Environment ? 1. “Group Consensus Score” Vs “Average Group Score” of the Same Virtual Environment This compares the performance of participants in the Virtual Environment as an Individual and as a Team. For a Virtual Environment to be good for Collaboration, the “Group Consensus Score” should be greater or equal to the “Average Group Score”. 2. “Group Consensus Score” of a Virtual Environment Vs “Group Consensus Score” of the Real World This compares how well the Virtual Environment rates for Collaboration, when compared to Collaboration in the Real World.
3. “Average Group Score” of a Virtual Environment Vs “Average Group Score” of the Real World This compares how well the participants perform in a Virtual Environment as Individuals compared to the Real World. This would be a measure of ease of using a Virtual Environment independently, without anybody’s help.
