A layout grid is a system that uses series of rows and columns to layout and align the content.
One of the best ways to organize graphical and typographical information on a page, is by using grid system. Although invisible, they give a good systematic look to the page. Also, grid systems are incredibly flexible and can be manipulated to suit all types of graphic design projects.
Grids are of four types: 1
• Manuscript grid

• Column grid
3
• Modular grid
4
• Hierarchical grid
It is also known as single column grid or block grid. It is the easiest grid of all. Example: They’re utilized as a part of books and long essays and may give themselves well to blog post.
They are made up by setting multiple columns inside the format.
Example: they work well when the information being presented is discontinuous and different types of information can be placed in different columns.
They are like column grids with the addition of horizontal divisions. Example: Image galleries and shopping carts are likely candidates for modular grids.
They’re based more on an intuitive placement of elements, which still conforms to the need of the information. Example: it can be used when none of the above grids will work to solve the problem. They tend to be created organically by first placing design elements on the page and then finding a rational structure for presenting those elements.
The fibonacci sequence is a series of number where a number is found by adding up the two numbers before it. Starting with 0 and 1, the sequence goes 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, and so forth.
The sequence can extend to every element in the design. It makes the overall composition balanced, has a strong sense of rhythm and visually feels aesthetically pleasing. Just the subtle use of the system makes a dramatic impact on a series of squares and text.
All the companies are using the golden ratio in their respective logos.

The rule of thirds is applied by aligning an object with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow.
It can be applied to any object to improve the composition and balance of the images. Rule of thirds is one of the most useful composition techniques in photography as well as in designing.
