LAGUNE’S HOUSE 2012

2nd Bachelor

The program was to built on a plot lost between land and sea, along an imaginary road crossing the lagoon. Through the urbanism’s contraints which imposed us to stick in a volume 11x15x5 (+annexes), we had to create a home for a family and a professinal activity. In the middle of the lagoon, it was chosen to use the water as much as possible and let it come through the heart of the project. We can see it, walk around, touch it, immerse,... different relationships with the water are provided through the floors.

An innovative structure mixing concrete’s sails and wood structure was used not only to play on differences in masses, differences of light, views and materials but also to decreased the total weight bearing on the stilts .

A CITIZEN HALL IN THE PARK’S HEART 2012

2nd Bachelor

The citizen house has a main administrative function, but it was also important to provide a cafeteria and multipurposes rooms to the district to create real connexions and bring life inside the project. The building was implanted in the heart of a new project for the St-Agathe’s park in Liège. Its principal caracteristic was its enclosure in the middle of the plot which is only opened in two entrances. The idea was to bring the inhabitants in the park through different levels with a promenade where they could find a variety of activities, outdoors spaces, meeting places,... This promenade is devoted to everyone, even the disabled people which have the possibility to climb the floors by an outdoor elevator. Thus everyone could access to the top of the park and its functions.

RYTHM AND HOUSES 2013

3rd Bachelor

The project involves the creation of a semi collective housing in the heart of a neighborhood on the edge of town. It was choosed to gather 2 parcels to create a set of 7 housing with a mixture of different types and sizes. On this plot between nature and city, the aim was to use the transversality between the servitude and the street to maximize the space and to create outdoor quality spaces.

The implantation follow the rhythm of the street. Then begins the succession of full and empty spaces which permits to create private outdoor spaces. Each facade is full of framed views to offer interior quality spaces turned on the outside.

3#FLATS ALONG THE TRAIN. 2013

3rd Bachelor

The renovation of the Jonfosse Station in Liege was an opportunity to develop a new project of housing. We had to divide a part of the building for three families. The division was clear in three vertical housing of 50 sqm by floor and each person has acces by the first floor where a common space was create in the idea of a Station plateform.

In the heart of each housing, inside space was developed in details to bring life qualities as much as possible. We had to manage between the dwellings to create different private spaces without loosing the idea of a common project where each one has the same quality of living.

UNDER THE SKIN 2013

1st Master - Erasmus

A really simple two phases process has been used to create a generous building considering public, collective and private spaces as well as the connexion between them. The first phase was to define different topics and concepts to design. A long research of references was used to have a better idea of this scale of housing. Afterwards, the design has been thought as a progressive evolution of a simple volume, each phase focussing on one of the previous topic.

Site - Leopold Plaats - Antwerp Partner - Philippe De Roo Professor - Geert Driesen (Awg)

The first important point was to create a generous contact with the Leopoldplaats and the context around the building. Maximum Volume

Vertical Slot

Square Connexion

Public Gallery

Sun Stairs

Structural corses

A wide opened gallery should connect the surrounding streets and creates an opening trough the square. That public space would allow commercial functions on the ground floor and provides a direct access for the inhabitants to the vertical circulation leading to the different dwellings. Nowadays, the way of living is changing and it seems important to provide something more than separated dwellings to improve live quality and encourage people to live inside the city. That’s why the second purpose was to bring a real collectivity inside the building. Such openness trough the public surroundings can not please everyone every time. The facade should then allow a flexible and changeable link with the outside.

That’s why, in order to create a filter between public and private spaces, the skin of the building could be thought as an independent envelope. This envelope is made of wooden panels which can slide to adapt the facade to the inside needs. The result is a dynamic volume that tries to fit into the context and to provide life quality to inhabitants by bringing collective spaces and a generous sun light.

THE DOUBLE HOUSE 2014

1st Master - Erasmus

The first demand was to build a double house on a plot of our choice in the historic city of Antwerp. Each housing unit had to count 150sqm but we decided quickly to add a third housing, a studio in the middle of the house. This add permits to develop the project and to find the funds to build this huge space demand. The entrance in the middle of the house is used also as a commun space where the connexion with the garden permits to create a real life of co-housing. Inside, housing are composed with a central stair around which is distributed the life spaces with interactions and views between the different levels.

Site - Falconrui 12 - Antwerp Partner - Philippe De Roo Professor - Mr Jan Thomaes (DMT)

HOUSE FOR KNOWLEDGE & INTROSPECTION 2014

2nd Master

The first aim was to use the introspection space to create a sloping park above it. The introspection could then be different sober spaces along a ÂŤ promenade architecturale Âť with a chosen contact with the outside. While a public space would be created in the dense neighborhood. That park is also oriented to the water with its shape and slope and also is composed with different spaces to rest along a pathway. The library building is a dense volume to give as much space as possible for the outside public spaces but is also sculptural to offer different quality spaces and create a landmark as noticeable spot in the surroundings.

Site - Ninoofse Poort in Brussels Partner - Philippe De Roo Professor - Mr Jan Thomaes (DMT)

Different spaces

The building is composed with clear plans to optimize the use of that dynamic shape. The library and others secondaries functions of the building are organized around a void that provide generous natural light and create a clear connections between the different stories. The circulation and core are also really central once again to lose as few space as possible.

RENOVATION OF THE CULTURAL CENTRE «LES CHIROUX» 2015

2nd Master

Following the request of the Cultural Centre Chiroux to give a new identity to this place, one team composed of 16 students was charged of reassessing expectations for such a space. Our mission was to resolve all problems with a limited intervention, which would help to improve the place in respect of its different uses. More than just find solutions, we had to keep in mind the workshop idea which is the environmental footprint and its impact on our architecture. Then we decided to create with reused materials as principal source.

?

1

Spaces were not clearly identified. The question for the user is : “Where does he have to go ? “

2

Spaces and functions were identified and a central point could serve as the heart of the place

3

This central point could be the ideal spot for the reception in order to guide the users and have a look on each part.

L’accueil L’accueil

A project developed by 16 students needs to be well organised to guide from the first idea to a finished construction without losing the team spirit and the involvement of each one. Then we learned to divide the work, organise meeting, communicate with the group, create by teams,... A lot of tasks which resume the project as a large human experience where the final issue was beyond all expectations.

The project evolved a lot since the beginning but final step includes : 1) The entrance reorganisation. It was repainted, and clarified to increase the visibilty from the outside and invite more people to go down and discover the cultural centre. 2) The construction of a reception desk adapted to different functions. 3) A complete change of use for the waiting space as a warm and welcoming place. In this space, people can wait and discuss on a new bench below a new lighting system which delimitates the area and create a new atmosphere.

5000 â‚Ź was the budget to construct the project. The aim was achieved, but the principal conclusion is that the group, with a good cohesion, had the possibility to push the limits. As a conclusion, thanks to the choice of thinking the environmental footprint by reusing materials, the project can be used now but also improved in the future by others. An important way of thinking architecture today.

A NEW HEALING ENVIRONMENT 2015

2nd Master

If the first idea was to rethink the waiting area, we decided also to use colors and textures to accompany the patient visually to the space and to be situated in the hospital. The proposed developement defines clear spaces. A central waiting room in connexion with the cabin entrances and turned to the patio and light. Around this central spot, a furniture device is create to offer several types of wait by different ways of sitting, playing, distracting,... The unused patio was transformed with a terrace and an accessible garden to allow to patients to get some fresh air and to bring life back in the hospital.

THE SCHOOL PATH EAP

2015

2nd Master

Selectionned Bought by the town, we had to think about a new rehabilitation of the 48 hectares of this site of the Saive military Barracks We worked in group to manage a master plan in order to create a new center for Saive as the city demand. Then we choose to work mainly on the Haute-Saive street to connect both existant squares and create a new life widespread along this road. It was demand to think about a new school for the city and its new inhabitants brought by the project. Then the best place was in front of the old school, in the center of the project and in connexions with the public transport, new buildings and the military barracks converted in housing.

On the school path

Space appropriation

A school for all

The car, which is essential in that suburban place, needs to be close but concentrated to make way for quality public spaces, while ensuring the safety and well being of all.

The school, because of its location and its shape, allows the interactions and relationships between young and elders by different outdoors spaces, playgrounds, vegetable gardens,...

It’s one of the most important topic in architecture today. It’s important to make forget people the feeling of being different. Thus, the place of the elevator and the various ramps allow access to all floors from public space and parkings.

Create with fun

The child’s appetite

Mini-sportmen

School is not only studying. It’s also a place to learn about life and relationships. Different creative spaces take place in strategic points to rise interactions between youngs.

The canteen, refectory, ... whatever the name, it’s where we all meet. What could be more normal than to have this place visible, accessible and connected to the central courtyard.

Sport has also its place in the project center. Used as a seat for kindergarten, it remains connected with the courtyard and the dining hall to allow the organization of events in the two areas together.

All the functions as the sports hall, the kitchen, the cafeteria, the preschool,... which needs a large space are used as a bearing wall to create playgrounds and open a new public space along the street. The project is composed by age class groups and offer different open spaces inside for games and activities. The facade details are thought as frames with integrated sun shields. It allows to open large windows and bring a maximum light inside.

MIX-CITY _ let us guide you 1th Prize

2015

Competition - Architecure & Accessibility 2015

Our will was to design rather than adapt, then the project was conceived from scratch. The main idea was to create a project in the centre of the city which can both help and raise awareness about the world of disability, but also to create encounter spaces shared by all. The plot was choose to show the opportunities of this empty space for the city as a central and accessible point and needs to be rethink. We decided to develop the project on one level as a pavilion because we worked on the ruins of the archeoforum ,and we wanted to preserve and highlight the patrimony around.
