KATE MALONE NEW WORK

Over the course of the past eighteen months, ceramic artist Kate Malone has worked consistently from her studio in the Kent countryside. Her new home and work space has offered her seclusion and a sense of refuge – the ideal environment to observe the changing of the seasons and realise ideas untested until now.

The work in this selection focuses predominantly on naturalistic forms, inspired by the plants, trees and hedgerows of her surroundings. However, the introduction of sharp-edged cube forms and experiments with basketry in clay, add new life and dynamism to this strong body of work.

Pumpkins bloom with electric blue crystals, rich collections of seeds and berries form mountains heralding each season’s abundance whilst a fantastical Singing Ringing Tree demonstrates Malone’s fertile imagination and flair for transforming make-believe into sculpture.
