THERAPHYSCAPE This idea for a building offers an escape from the hectic life of the city. It provides a series of leisure activities and therapeutic experiences which are focussed on improving people’s general well-being while also improving their mental and physical health. Following the building’s programme of fun leisure activities and various forms of therapy, people will leave with an improved body and mind.

3rd Year Projects Location:

Coventry

This project was made using the following software

COVENTRY - SITE ANALYSIS Historically part of Warwickshire, Coventry is the 9th largest city in England and the 12th largest in the United Kingdom. Coventry used to be an industrial city that after WW2 became a more Brutalist city due its reconstruction. The city centre was clearly focused on commercial buildings rather than green and recreational parks. This influenced my Green vertical park research project.

PLANS & SECTION This building’s perspective floor plans where drawn in this way to show the way in which different leisure activities combine with the Ecotherapy rooms and spaces happening at the various different floor levels of the green park. The building’s organic shape is intended is to make visitors feel closer to nature while also encouraging continuous movement throughout the building with the cycle paths working in tandem with the footpaths, allowing visitors to exercise. 4TH FLOOR 1. OUTDOOR ROOF GREEN PARK & THEATRE AT DUSK

This space is used as an outdoor cinema every Saturday evening. On Sundays, the same space is used for an ornamental plants market which works as a continuation of the indoor food market.

Eco-therapies is the name given to a wide range of treatment programmes which aim to improve ones mental and physical well-being through doing outdoor activities in nature. Connecting with nature in this way can have lots of potential health benefits.

1. The Green House

tower with three floor levels accommodates different Ecotherapy room sizes that grow food hydroponically. These therapy rooms were designed for a variety of time length programmes. The room shown on the visualisation is located at the North and grows green vegetables and peppers.

2. The Eco-therapy space on the

first floor of the Outdoor Food Growing tower, grows some blueberries and holds the biggest fruit trees such as apples, pears and peach trees. Furthermore, next to it there is a Yoga room that forms part of the programme therapies. This Yoga room is only accessible by foot or by cycling down the building as the cycle path is only one way.

SECTION JUVENILE CAR 1:100 MAKERS GUILD

The Glass Bridge connects the Coventry Transport Museum with the site. This bridge is currently called ‘The bridge to nowhere’ therefore, I wanted to give this bridge a meaning and bring a connection between the museum and the site. The building on site would work as an extension of the Transport museum exhibition throughout the year. However, during the summer, workshops for soap box car makers and RCC makers would take place for teenagers. At the end of the workshop, teens would have a speed car competition.

THE CASTLE MILLS PRIMARY SCHOOL The Castle Mills Primary

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS (Studio project 4 in 2nd year)

Ecofriendly

Materials

School in Oxford provides an alternative type of education. It follows a more contemporary educational philosophy which is different to traditional UK schools. It is a school that blends the Montessori and Steiner method of education. The school has three main classrooms grouping students between the ages of 3 to 6, 6 to 9 and 9 to 12. Aside from that, the other spaces in the school are for multi-purpose activities. Due to the site’s size, the space is limited therefore, the school has to be flexible. Giving the kids freedom for circulation and movement within the school building is one of its most important features. As a result of this, the school provides dancing, theatre and sports spaces for its students and the public. Furthermore, this school integrates ecofriendly materials into its structure and in the learning materials. A reason for the school allowing spaces for gardening and farming is to promote environmental consciousness in all the students.
