EDU-ARCTIC Is an EU-funded project focused on using Arctic research as a vehicle to strengthen science education curricula across Europe.

Main Objectives The primary goal of EDU-ARCTIC is to encourage interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education among students between the ages of 13 and 20. It aims to do this by providing an innovative and attractive educational programme accessible to schools all across Europe.

Can we have more than one profile in Edu – Arctic portal ? Yes we can, if you represent a few schools or educational institutions. You should know however that your e-mail address provided during registration for one school or institution is unique (it is your login). If you teach in several schools or should you be a member of various educational institutions you can register several times using different e-mail addresses related to specific institutions.

Online Lessons This is the main component of the EDU-ARCTIC program. Transmissions from polar stations, is provided for schools. Online lessons deals with the following disciplines and research topics: environmental sciences, geophysics (seismology, Earth magnetism), geology, geomorphology, climatology, climate change, atmospheric chemistry and physics, hydrology, ecology, soil science, oceanography, microbiology, marine, biology, biodiversity, paleoecology, limnology and additionally anthropology, the sociology of Arctic regions, human biology and medicine, genetics, zoology, biology and to some extent socio-humanities.

How can you access an online lesson you have enrolled? Once you have enrolled for any one online lesson you should see a message posted to you below containing confirmation info including a link ready to be used. Once you follow that link, you will be redirected to the virtual classroom just before the lesson. Please check that prior to the time given in Online lesson details. You may have to perform some very easy technical settings in order to fully participate. Do not worry. The message will guide you through all the stages.

Monitoring System What are the benefits of Monitoring System ? Students can observe and collect data on weather conditions near their school, as well as other natural phenomena such as snow ice and ice cover, bird migration, flowering of local plant species, etc. Teachers can upload the data they collect to the EDUARCTIC portal. Data uploaded to the web portal is publicly available to all participants everywhere.

In “ New measurement “ , You have to fill in the empty boxes We invite you to report observations conducted by your students in schools’ surroundings each Monday Please note that the system accepts only one report from one location (SCHOOL) per week, ( for 12:00 (Monday) local time..) If you are unable to report it on Monday, no worries: you may still do that on Tuesday, but remember to provide information on values accurate for the previous day.

Who can join the competition? 1. Teams from secondary schools across Europe and outside. 2. A team consists of one student and one mentor, who is a teacher at the school. 3. The teacher does not necessarily have to be the student´s teacher at the moment. However, he/she must be employed at the same school. 4. The teacher and the student join the arctic expedition together and the teacher is responsible for the students wellbeing on the expedition. 5. The student must be between 13 and 20 years’ old. 6. The student and teacher have to be able to communicate well in English. 7. Before submission teacher must get the written, signed consent of the student, whose work he/she submits for the competition within the EDUARCTIC project. In case of minor the written, signed consent of student’s legal guardians must be obtained by the teacher.
