PASSIVE VOICE  Is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known. The statement is more polite than the active voice, that’s why is more common to find it in reports. The main action or verb has to be conjugated in PAST PARTICIPLE

 When the sentence is in present subject

 FOR EXAMPLE

John is wanted immediately

SENTENCE IN ACTIVE VOICE

PASSIVE VOICE ď‚´ When the sentence is in past subject verb to be in past verb in Past participle complement

He was taken to the hospital.

SENTENCE IN ACTIVE VOICE They took him to the hospital.

The use of still and anymore STILL Indicates that something is happening or not happening up to the present. The word ‘still’ has to be before the main verb.  FOR EXAMPLE He still likes playing the guitar. He is still playing the soccer. I still haven’t done my work.


The use of still and anymore ANYMORE Is used with negative statements and questions. It indicates that something is finished or not happening. It often appears at the end of a sentence.  FOR EXAMPLE I won’t go there anymore

Sara doesn’t play volleyball anymore


PRACTICE Read the statement describing two situations, past and present. Summarize in one statement with still or anymore. For example  Mary often play the piano last year. She doesn’t play the piano now  Mary doesn’t play the piano anymore. 1. The price was five dollars. The price is five dollars 2. John was eating breakfast. John is eating breakfast now 3. Mr. Black lived in New York. Mr. Black doesn’t live in New York now 4. Mr. Brown lived in New York . Mr. Brown lives in New York now 5. I wanted to study last night. I want to study now 6. I tried to study yesterday. I’m trying to study now


Very, Too and Enough ď‚´ VERY: It refers to

something difficult but not impossible to do. It goes before an adverb or adjective to make it stronger.

ď‚´ FOR EXAMPLE :

The girl was very beautiful. The house is very expensive. He worked very quickly.


Very, Too and Enough  TOO: It refers to something difficult and impossible to do. It has two distinct meanings, each with its own usage patterns.

 Too meaning "also“ : It goes at the end of the phrase it modifies. Mary has a dog and I have one too  Too meaning "excessively“: It goes before the adjective or adverb it modifies. It can be used in both affirmative and negative sentences. The ceiling is too high for me to reach it.


Very, Too and Enough  ENOUGH: It means sufficient. It can proceed or follows nouns  FOR EXAMPLE

We have time enough. We have enough time.


PRACTICE  Mary is very sick. She can’t come to class… Mary is too sick to come to class. 1. John is well. He can come to class. 2. The exercise is very easy. We can do it.

3. It is very cold. We can’t go swimming. 4. It is very cold. We can go skating. 5. The bananas are very soft. We can’t eat them. 6. The window are clear. We can look through them.

7. John is very angry. He can fight.


Possessive nouns  The possessive form of a noun phrase referring to a THING is made by putting OF before the noun phrase.  FOR EXAMPLE The cover of the book  The possessive form of a noun phrase referring to an ANIMAL, TIME or a PERSON is made by putting the suffix ‘s (apostrophe) at the end of the noun phrase.

 FOR EXAMPLE They are the dog’s legs

Prepositions  Prepositions are used idiomatically after ordinary adjectives like “happy” as well as those which are made from verbs like “worried”  Tired OF  Bored with  Accustomed to  Disappointed with or in

Practice  Mrs. Miller is going to London. She is excited…Mrs. Miller is excited about going to London 1. John said “ I like geography. I think it’s very interesting. 2. John is going into the army. He is worried 3. Mary wants to write long compositions. She is in favor of it 4. Mary is away from home. She is unhappy 5. Mary doesn’t like her job. She is bored 6. Mr. Miller is learning a language. He is excited 7. Mary wants to ride a bus. She is in favor of it.


What do you know as a result of participating in the class discussion that you did not know before? ď‚´ Participating in class discussions helps me improve my fluency, I can share my opinions with my classmates, I think that thanks to that, is much easier to maintain a strong conversation with people and why not covering important topics. You can learn not only about the topics but a lot of vocabulary.


What can you do as a result of participating in the class discussions that you couldn’t do before?

 I can feel much more confidence with myself when I’m talking to someone. Thanks to my new vocabulary I can express myself well in topics more complicated. I could open my mind due to my classmate’s opinions.


What could you teach someone to know or do as a result of participating in the class discussions that you couldn’t teach them before?  I think I could teach them some grammar topics that I did not be able to explain before. When you are talking to someone, you can notice your mistakes and correct yourself. All we need is practice to achieve your languages goals.
