Carina Tafulu AN OVERVIEW OF HAIR BY CARINA

From updos to curls, or dark to light, there’s no hair style Carina Tafulu can’t achieve. Her love for hair was instilled at a young age, but it was her passionate and committed character that led her to become a successful freelance hairstylist. Determined to work in the beauty industry, Carina went to school to pursue a career in Cosmetology. Once she obtained her degree, she began working at a hair salon, while still finding time to do platform work and editorial hairstyling on the side. As she built a hefty portfolio and a greater clientele, she began to realize that simply styling hair in a salon wasn’t what she pictured herself doing for the rest of her life. Carina began reaching out to photographers and makeup artists in hopes of setting up collaborations with them. After being referred by a friend who works in the makeup industry, Carina landed her first job on set, where she styled a Playboy model. “I loved working as a team and being able to just create magic,” She said. Throughout her 16 years in the beauty industry, she has had the pleasure of working with prestigious mass media companies such as Disney, Columbia Records, Sony Records and many more. On top of having the opportunity to do what you love, imagine being able to teach what you love. As a result of the gratitude and admiration she had for her beauty school teachers, Carina became inspired to give back and become certified in teaching cosmetology. She has now been teaching Cosmetology for 5 years and is currently working as an educator at a cosmetology school in Orange county. She admits to loving every minute of it! “I love working with my students. Watching them grow into their art. They inspire me every day to become a better hairstylist. I love working with them from day one to the day they graduate,” Carina said. Building a career can be quite difficult, but Carina’s success as a freelance hairstylist and educator proves that it can be done. Despite the challenges and occasional selfdoubts, Carina assures us nothing surpasses the amazing feeling that comes with doing what she loves. “I love everything about what I do in hair. From teaching students to working behind t the chair in a salon and making my clients feel amazing. To freelance and being able to stee my work in magazines or videos.” To learn more about Carina Tafulu, please visit www.verityprandbranding.com Images courtesy of Badgley Mishka

She was born and raised in the Sunshine state, where her Instagram hashtag name and character fit in perfectly. Torri Webb is a lifestyle blogger and Instagram influencer (@torrisunshine). Using her intriguing blog and social media account, Torri shares her knowledge and opinions about topics related to fashion, travel, and entertainment, as well as spreading awareness about physical and mental health. For the last few years, she has dedicated her time developing her blog. She talked to us about how her influencer lifestyle transpired. Born and raised in the tropical, sun-drenched city of Panama City Beach, Florida, Torri had a dream similar to many other little girls; she wanted to be a princess. After she turned 8 years old, she was determined to become a psychologist. As she got closer to wrapping up her studies and obtaining her degree, she realized she didn’t envision herself being locked away in a room for the rest of her life. A lover of photography, art, and movies; She wanted to enjoy life freely and unapologetically. Most importantly, she wanted to connect with people and express her creativity. Merging her love for social interactions and photography, Torri decided to go out and buy camera equipment in hopes of starting her own Youtube channel. She put out a few videos before allowing fear to take over, preventing her Youtube channel from flourishing. She did, however, evolve her blog throughout that time. Now, her blog is thriving. With over 10K followers on Instagram, Torri tells a story with her photos. She posts motivational quotes, sights of Florida and other vacation-worthy places, and of course, her collabs with brands. Sharing both, facts about the products, as well as her personal thoughts on them. She has done collaborations with popular brands such as Pink, Victoria’s Secret, Neutrogena, and many more. Although her content is aiming mainly towards a female audience, she also covers a lot of content that may interest anyone, such as food and beverage information and health awareness. For Torri, growing as a blogger has been a trial and error process. She admits that, at times throughout the lengthy process of growing as a blogger, she felt discouraged, wondering if she’d ever succeed. Despite those feelings of doubt lingering around her, she persevered. “The growth is slow and sometimes it can feel oversaturated like you aren’t going to make it, but I know I have something to say and a desire to say it for a reason so you just have to find solace in that and keep pushing forward,” Torri said. “Ive also just grown as a person to find out how much work you HAVE to put in but I love it!” Torri hopes to try again in the Youtube industry this year. Aside from that, she hopes to finish up a few fashion campaigns she’s working on. Among them is NAADAM, a sustainable cashmere clothing brand and Sugarlips, an online boutique. Of course, she also has a few future projects plans relating to beverages. Her main goal is make a full time living off her social media accounts. Although it hasn’t been easy, Torri has used her amiable and unique character to create a presence for herself in all her social media platforms. She hopes to continue spreading knowledge and positivity to her followers, such as the following message: “Its okay if you feel alone, things get better and you should focus on the brightness in the world!” To learn more about Torri, check out her website here, or visit her Instagram: @torrisunshine Images Courtesy of Torri Webb. Across the centuries, and around the globe, fashion has always held a presence in modern life. Whether it be long gowns and bowties, or combat boots and crop tops, clothing has always been essential in defining culture. Today, we see fashion week in all parts of the world, showcasing the various looks and styles of each buzzing city, from Paris to New York. We sat down for an interview with one of our lovely influencers, Lucia Lorusso, to learn more about Italian fashion. Verity: What is your signature style? Lucia: I have a few signature aspects of my style that I emulate in all of my outfits; simplicity always linked with a touch of elegance. I try to mix simplicity and elegance in all of my outfits, even in my usual t-shirt and jeans. Verity: How would you describe Italian style? Lucia: There is so much to say about Italian style! I would describe the style of Italy as classic but trendy. The style definitely changes from region to region, but what we all have in common is the desire to feel beautiful on any occasion (even just to go shopping!) Verity: How does Italian style differ from American style? Lucia: Italian style is heavily influenced by American style, especially for guys. In Italy, it’s the style to wear sweaters with the logos of American universities, like Harvard. I find it a bit bizarre but Italians are all a bit quirky (in the best way). Verity: What do you like about American style? What do you dislike? Lucia: I really like American style and especially American designers like Sherri Hill! I love the simplicity of American style and not being too worried about perfection. Of course, I would be lying if I said that I also overlook small details in my outfits, but I prefer to be free to wear what I’d like. Verity: What do you think the future of fashion in Italy looks like? What would you like to see?

n

Lucia: Many of my friends say I can predict the future (especially for exams), but as far as fashion is concerned, anything can happen! But if I had to pick what I’d like to see, it would be the pin-up fashion of the 50s, wide polka-dot skirts, lots of red lipstick and a double line of eyeliner. We’ll just have to wait and see! *Note*: The responses have been edited for length clarity.

He is currently with the photography team at Grazia International, shooting shows during Paris Fashion Week. He is also with other publications including Starface Photo Agency in Paris, France. A photographer at heart, he got started in late 2008 when he bought his first digital camera. He started practicing by taking pictures of simple things but this quickly grew into a passion. In 2013, he lost his camera which is why his friends chipped in to give him enough money to buy a new one for his birthday. Instead of buying a digital camera he bought a film camera. It was practicing with film cameras that improved his style and composition.

McKenna Trahan – A True Southern Belle It’s 2019 – which means it a NEW year that is full of opportunities and new possibilities. I had the absolute pleasure of speaking with McKenna Trahan. She is a southern raised chic mother and Instagram influencer. We dip into her life and how she started her journey to share her world with her audience. 1. Fashion can be expressed in so many ways, especially through clothing and accessories. What do you love most about fashion, and how would you describe your own personal sense of style? I love that fashion can make you just feel better about yourself. On my off days when I may be feeling a bit down, getting dressed and fixing myself up is always an instant mood booster. I would describe my style as classic with a bent to more neutral, minimalist styles. 2. I see you are also a music teacher, especially in New Orleans (I’m a HUGE jazz lover), as well as a mother. How do you tackle it all, while keeping your blog and IG audience growing? Any advice for new moms and new bloggers? Juggling multiple areas of my life can be a challenge. I am afraid I haven’t tackled it all but the one piece of advice I can give to moms is to give yourself grace. It’s OK to not ‘be on’ all the time and to take breaks every now and then from social media. I always find the times I take a step back that I always return to blogging and social media with a fresh outlook and better attitude. 3. Has the transition to New York (being your husband is in Grad school) from the Big Easy state of New Orleans been a challenge at all? Especially with running a major blog and IG. What would you tell those who have been seeking that venture? The hardest part of moving from New Orleans to upstate NY has been the weather. I literally went from a location where you can shoot outfits all year and be outdoors to a place where 6 months out of the year there is snow on the ground. The weather and leaving my blog community in the south were my two hardest things. I would encourage those seeking a new adventure to seek out like minded girls to grown with and keep you motivated! 4. Instagram is the new ‘BLOG’ platform in a sense. How and where do you see yourself going with your blog and IG in the future? Would you plan on making changes though the years or keep your message as is? The beauty of IG and blogging is that is can grow with you and you can gain a new audience with each life transition. I see myself taking on more mom posts and topics as well as health and wellness. Style will always be a big part of my blog but my life is so much fuller now than when I started!

I” try to be myself on my IG account. Many days I am on my IG stories with no makeup showing my real life. I think it is important to be YOU in this social media world and not to get caught up trying to be someone else. Whenever I find myself comparing myself, I try to step back and count all the blessings I have in life. It is amazing what a different perspective it gives!”

I’m hoping to see a photograph that makes me stop in my tracks, and I’m pretty confident I will,” she says. Julie is also also an ambassador for Nikon. “I was really touched when they asked me to be their ambassador, as I have worked with Nikon for so many years now. One of VERITY’S newest Digital Influencers gave us an exclusive interview, talking all things Instagram, YouTube, and hair-, skin-, and nail care. Welcome, Francine Araùjo! Q: For you, what does it mean to be a Digital Influencer? A: Being a Digital Influencer is to show the reality and the sincerity of my point of view. [To be a Digital Influencer] is to connect with people from all over the world and to be able to show a little bit of myself, my culture, and the things I believe could be good for people who follow me Q: On your YouTube page, you create a variety of beauty/fashion/vlog content. What made you want to create YouTube videos? A: I like to create videos on YouTube because I can show things I’ve learned. Also, I feel closer to the people who follow me because those videos are my memories of the moments I’ve experienced. Q: You work with brand partnerships–can you tell us what those are and what kind of work you do for them? A: Yes, I work with several brands: Revolve, AKIRA Shop, Urban Decay, Sigma Beauty, Lancôme, Clarins Paris, Vichy, Charlotte Tilbury, Pixi Beauty, Polaroid, BioSilk, and BECCA Cosmetics. I create content with all these brands’ products, from videos to photos to stories! Q: You take beautiful Instagram pictures of your outfits! Have you always had a passion for fashion? A: Thank you! Yes, I always loved photography, and fashion is my passion. I love being able to make compositions of looks and trends. This year, I participated in New York Fashion Week, and now I‘m even more in love with all of this. I feel happy taking these photos! Q: I know that you like to set aside one day during the week to take care of your hair, skin, and nails. (I’m right there with you–I’m a skincare fanatic myself!) Why is hair-, skin-, and nail care important to you? A: Yes, I love taking care of myself, even more now that I’m working with my image on social networks. But I also like to relax, and I always like to be well-groomed. Q: Is it important for you to represent your Brazilian culture in the work that you do? A: Yes, I love my culture. I think that all people have to know new cultures, so I always show a lot of [Brazilian] things on my Instagram stories. Q: You’ve been living in New Jersey for the past 2 years. What’s your favorite thing about living there? A: I like to live in New Jersey because it’s near New York, so it’s very easy to go to events. Plus, the city I live in is quiet!
