I still have to befriend with social medias in general. As of right now it still stresses me out more then it helps but thats mainly because of my lack of computer knowledge
I have recently started to use it, because I wanted to follow some artists who are not so easy to see otherwise. I hope to find interesting artists, and I also hope to find people who find my art interesting.I dislike that it is addictive, it consumes a lot of time.
The immense variety of the art production is made even more visible. I often wish, to be able to see the pieces with my own eyes. How do the colors look in life ? Is the work as good as it appears on this post or does it even take away certain beauty ? what about the fine details?
First of all it is very time consuming, so not very good. But sometimes I really enjoy getting lost online, clicking on images and following my own stream of consciousness. I am not sure how it influences my daily practice, but it is for sure integrated in it and functions almost like a research tool, to keep up to date with what other people are working on.
I think art gets a whole different kind of visibility in social media. Rules and preferences established in real life are knocked off, and instead of museums and curators we get a new algorithm that shows us what we are supposed to like. That means obviously that we get to see more what many people like. This can sometimes be a welcome change, but sometimes not. The artwork that looks best on a photo, or the one that people want to make a selfie with is not always the best artwork. However the algorithm gives me a false safety by implying that I am the one who defines what I see.

I like to be able to publish pictures of my artworks (or the working process) and get an immediate response from the web. Often I only realize that my piece is done when I see my own post on my mobile phone screen. It also works like a very good archive of when I did what. I don’t like so much that once I post something, it is out there and basically can never be removed and other people or companies can use the image, but I guess that is part of the deal.
I see more artworks of artists I follow and that is really inspiring.

People take pictures of the summer. Just in case someone thought they had missed it. And to prove that it really existed. Fathers take pictures of the mothers. And the sisters take pictures of brothers. Just to show that they love one another. You can’t picture love that you took from me. When we were young and the world was free. Pictures of things as they used to be. Don’t show me no more, please. People take pictures of each other. Just to prove that they really existed. Just to prove that they really existed. People take pictures of each other. And the moment can last them forever. Of the time when they mattered to someone. People take pictures of the summer. It’s good social media makes art accessible and sharing work with a broad audience can be great. I also really like work that uses social media as a material and not just a platform.
I see painting as a genre that draws attention to itself by disturbing the gaze, the viewer’s line of thought. Its perception should not be a matter of a single moment; its purpose is slow cognition, and gradual interpretation of layers of connotations. Attention and time spent with it by the maker and the viewer are equally essential features of the painting.

I like to look at art on social media. It’s a jungle out there, so much to find. Some good, some bad and a lot of terrible stuff. But it always seems to put my own art in perspective. Maybe I am a fool to think that.

I post on instagram because of posting something out there I have to think through several things and aspects of my work.
I like the posts of museums because you can’t see an actual trend happening on their sites. They are “general” in a good way. Trends can be annoying and can put you into an unnecessary competition.
