WORLD TRADE CENTER VEHICULAR SECURITY CENTER (VSC) LIBERTY PARK The Vehicular Security Center (VSC) is a joint venture among many companies. AECOM is designing the facade and an above grade park for the VSC area which will mask the building as it serves as a background for the south side of the World Trade Center site. Santiago Calatrava is also part of this joint venture as he is designing the rebuilding of St. Nicholas Church, which will be located within Liberty Park, topping the roof of the VSC. One of the key elements in the design of the facade for the VSC was the development of a green wall for Liberty Street, which integrated the raised park above with the street level. The living wall also functions as a background for the World Trade Center Memorial. LIBERTY STREET ELEVATION

PENN VISION MASTER PLAN AECOM’s vision study for Penn Station intends to revitalize the station, reconnecting the station to its urban context and clarifying the station’s circulation. The use of light was an important tool used throughout the development of the master plan in order to create visual connections orienting and directing people in the station. The New York city street grid was incorporated into the station’s circulation in order to provide clear and intuitive wayfinding throughout the station. Also, the circulation layout created a cascade effect across levels allowing pedestrians to have visual connections between the levels, which reinforced the initial idea to connect all levels within the station and the surrounding urban context. During the development of the vision study I was part of the design team under the supervision of Roger Goodhill and Luke Bridle. I assisted in design development studies, created and elaborated upon diagrams, plans, sections, and set up materials and presentation of boards for clients.

Natural Light is used as a tool to orient and direct people throughout the station

The entrance glass pavilions not only establish a civic entrance for penn station but also bring light into the station.

Creating a clear connection from platform level to street level.

The ample vertical height of the pavilions allow for natural light to be introduced along with vertical Circulation elements, which create a direct visual connection throughout the station.

WISSIOMING RESIDENCE

The Wissioming Residence was used as a reference project for the production of this construction document set. The project began through research of the home and construction details related to it. Through the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) the goal of this project was to make technically clear drawings, prepare models illustrating and identifying the assembly of materials, systems, and components appropriate for a building design. USGBC HEADQUARTERS Site Location Soho - Manhattan, NY The U.S. Green Council was given a grant to build their headquarters in New York City. The site is located at the intersection of 6th Avenue and Sullivan Street, on the edge of the historic Soho Landmark District. One of the requirements of the client was to provide residential units along with the USGBC Headquarters utilizing the property to its maximum allowable area. Therefore, the first three levels of the building are designed for the headquarters and the upper levels are residential. The small park adjacent to the site served as inspiration for the initial design phase of the project. The intent was to bring the park into the building by using a ramp that wrapped around the perimeter of the site. The wrapping ramp not only allowed the experience of the park to be extended across the street, but it also made the project relate to its context, responding to the need for more public green spaces.

BODY PROSTHETIC

As a requirement for the project the Body Prosthetic, it

DESIGN HEADQUARTERS SANDRA_BUCKLAND

should be usable and wearable and it should enhance the human body. Most importantly, the Body Prosthetic should express the chosen designer’s vision and work. Since Sandra Buckland works with knitting and a variety of materials, I incorporated weaving into the project. The jack-

et itself, which later becomes the body of the purse, was a machine-made knitting. The hood of the jacket, which later becomes the handle of the purse, was a hand-made piece made of recycled garbage bags. This piece’s volume can be adjusted according the user’s wish. The Body Prosthetic incorporated many of the designer’s ideas, such as weaving, transformation, distortion, and volumetric forms.

Sandra Buckland is known for her knitting technique. She uses a variety of materials to create clothes that are unique and that express volume and forms. She treats the human body as a sculpture working like a tailor and then going back later to the human body. The designer is fascinated by the way highlighting, distorting, and transforming garments can shape the human body. Emphasizing the human silhouette is a very important part of her designs, and in order to do so she uses the void as important element.

“Fashion is simply art... Trends, seasons, and wearability are not the only measurements for fashion” Sandra Buckland

Site Plan

DISTORTION

TRANSFORMATION

Orientation

The design of the Fashion Headquarters embodies the design philosophy of the fashion designer. As in the designer’s clothes, the void is an important element in the headquarters. It separates and emphasizes the upper and lower parts of building. It also separates private and public spaces, public being at the bottom and private at the top. The void is an occupiable area, which is open to the public at all times and is visually in relationship to the High Line Park. Also, distortion, balance and interconnection are important ideals incorporated into the Headquarters’ design in order to best express Sandra Buckland’s philosophy.
