Medical services are always just a few doorsteps away in developed countries. But for sick children in rural villages of Cambodia, they must travel far to city hospitals for treatment. Once the patient needs to be hospitalized, their family will choose to stay overnight at common areas of hospitals in order to cut accommodation cost. Angkor Hospital for Children is a Siem Reap-based hospital run by foreign volunteer doctors. In partnership with the hospital, we launched the Nutritious Meal Plan to provide fresh food and sanitation products to patients and their families during their stay, as well as transportation subsidies to eligible families. Malnutritioned kids will receive medical treatment at the hospital. Post discharge, we fund hospital volunteers for subsequent home visits to keep track on their recovery progress.

During Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival, A Drop of Life organized goodie bag distribution activities to connect different sectors of the society so as to pass on love and care. On this Chinese New Year’s Eve, more than a hundred volunteers sent warm blessings to single elderlies through providing home cleaning services. More than 4,000 goodie bags with items like rice, oil and mushrooms were distributed. We have modified the goodie bags into shopping carts for their daily use in future. As for the Mid-Autumn Festival, we organized visits to community centers and special schools. Volunteers got the chance to understand better about the challenges minorities face. Besides giving out goodie bags, we also had interesting group games and heart-to-heart talks with beneficiaries, ending the festival in laughter.
