The great Nelson Mandela once said some of the greatest words ever spoken. “It always seems impossible until it’s done.”

Right now, you’re probably still in the “doing” stage, and chances are, you’re certainly surrounded by thousands of questions and doubts. What score will you get in your competitive exam? How many candidates will end up getting a higher score than you? What are your chances of getting through to your dream business school? How will you perform in your GD and PI? I can go on, but I think you get my drift. The first step is to be prepared, and do your homework. You have to know all about the top business schools that are out there and what they offer – the programmes, the fees, the faculty, the kind of peer group you might expect there, right till their placement track record. So it is with great pleasure that the Advanc’edge team brings to you our special issue for the year, to help you in your journey. In this issue, you will get a comprehensive idea of all the good management institutions in the country and what you can expect from them, through the B-School profiles. Each profile has been carefully compiled to include all relevant and up-to-date information that you will need to make an informed choice. The data comes directly from the B-schools themselves, every detail confirmed painstakingly and accurately. Our focus was on classifying the profiles in a manner that would be most helpful to you. Therefore, the profiles have been arranged geographically. You will find a list of all the top colleges in a state, at a glance. But our challenge in compiling the profiles lay in their ranking. As the standard, we have used the 2013 Business Today Ranking Indian B-School Ranking. Several institutes that had featured in prominent positions in last year’s ranking were missing this time around. However, we have included them in our profile list so that you still get an exhaustive database to scour through. Of course, where you’ll study is also important. Are you a nature lover, or a nightlife person, or do you love trekking, or visiting places of historical importance? So what does the city, where you’ll spend the next two years of your life, have to offer? We feel that this is also important to know, which is why this issue includes a section on the cities where the business schools have campuses. So dive into this one-stop handbook to knowing your B-school. It might seem a daunting task to do your homework on so many institutes, but it always seems impossible until it’s done.

STUDY HOUR

Tom’s tantrums The baby Tom would claw anybody who came within reach of his nails, and pound anybody he could reach with his rattle. He would scream for water until he got it, and then throw cup and all on the floor and scream for more. He was indulged in all his caprices, howsoever troublesome and exasperating they might be; he was allowed to eat anything he wanted, particularly things that would give him the stomach-ache. When he got to be old enough to begin to toddle about and say broken words and get an idea of what his hands were for, he was a more consummate pest than ever. Roxy got no rest while he was awake. He would call for anything and everything he saw, simply saying, “Awnt it!” (want it), which was a command. When it was brought, he said in a frenzy, and motioning it away with his hands, “Don’t awnt it! don’t awnt it!” and the moment it was gone he set up frantic yells of “Awnt it! awnt it!” and Roxy had to give wings to her heels to get that thing back to him again before he could get time to carry out his intention of going into convulsions about it. What he preferred above all other things was the tongs. This was because his “father” had forbidden him to have them lest he break windows and furniture with them.
