LONE OAKS FARM

Passion is lifted from the earth itself by the muddy hands of the young; it travels along grass-stained sleeves to the heart. – Richard Louv

A place

LIKE NO OTHER

WELCOME TO LONE OAK S FARM

A

s natural as the mist on morning meadows, the sound of water over rocks, the stillness in an old forest – as the restless ripples of a breeze over sunny lakes and secluded ponds and shrouded brooks, through the grass and wildflowers, across a porch, on a trail, in a moment. Everything here is natural, and everything here – every bit of every one of 1,200 acres – is carefully planned to come naturally. The roads of this working farm weren’t laid out to crisscross at right angles, dividing everything into just-so squares and rectangles; they were designed to bend and wander, to reveal and surprise, each turn carefully considered to complement just getting from here to there. The structures are more than barns and buildings, the spaces more than fields and forest, the hills seemingly sculptured, the landscapes painted. Each appears to be exactly where it should be, each a unique statement of its place and purpose, each to be admired, all to amaze. The architecture of every structure is notable, distinctive – from each barn and stable, to each of the thirteen unique residential buildings, each its own cottage folded flawlessly into the landscape, to each of the stone fireplaces and terraces by the waterfalls, the decks, fire pits and conversation areas by the ponds, above the creeks, to every porch, every bridge in the woods.

All in place making Lone Oaks Farm not only the best choice in Tennessee for present value and future potential, but the best opportunity for an educational facility of this scale and scope in the country. A national model. ALL AND ONLY HERE.

A place

TO GROW

THE 4-H CENTER AT LONE OAK S FARM

W

here Tennessee’s largest youth development program has room to stretch, broadening horizons and expanding promise, for the 170,000 young Tennesseans – fourth through twelfth grade – enrolled in 4-H. Housed within the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, 4-H teaches leadership, citizenship, public speaking, science, agriculture, natural resources, health, nutrition, foodways, and financial management. For many, 4-H is the first exposure to the concept of higher education and is a catalyst to seek knowledge, to know and do more.

The 4-H motto is To Make The Best Better.® There is no better place than Lone Oaks Farm, which will be the world’s premier 4-H center. Here we can continue to build upon the foundation of 4-H camping in Tennessee, bolder and stronger than before, stronger than a rich heritage begun in 1924, strong enough for a region, strong enough for a country, strong enough to be the best in the world. Here in Hardeman County we can do what 4-H in Tennessee has done for more than a century, for a century to come, and more. Here we can do more than teach, we can inspire. More than theorize, we can realize. Here with infrastructure already in place, with a sense of place already abundant and a sense of purpose already felt, we can live and live into the 4-H pledge:

I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world. HERE THIS MORNING IS ALL WE NEED FOR TOMORROW.

A place

TO LEARN

THE CONFERENCE CENTER AT LONE OAK S FARM

E

mbodying the comprehensive vision of the University of Tennessee, the Institute of Agriculture, and UT Extension, Lone Oaks will serve as a 4-H center and still more, an adult conference center and still more, a retreat and still more, to represent West Tennessee, and all of Tennessee, to all.

Conferences here will afford different views and prompt deeper response. Strolls become walks and walks become adventures. Stress fades in sunsets, pressure drops over each hill, worry is lost in waterfalls. MEANING IS FOUND.

Meeting the criteria of selection committees, staff, and supporters as most representative of the University of Tennessee’s role as a land-grant university, Lone Oaks will enhance Tennessee’s reputation as one of the healthiest and most robust agricultural industries and natural resource systems in the nation. Rising alone above many possible choices because of its diverse mixture of pasture, woodlands, and water, its singular architecture, its national reputation as a farm and purebred Angus operation, its commitment to conservation for Tennessee’s natural and cultural resources, Lone Oaks is a special place. And just as Lone Oaks Farm operates as a responsible steward of the land, what we can plant here in this already fertile ground will bring a far greater return for the resources invested than any of the properties considered, than any property anywhere. People will be drawn here from everywhere, drawn to discovery. The 4.5 million educational contacts UT Extension has with Tennesseans every year will increase and spread here and across the nation.

A place

TO RENEW

THE INN AT LONE OAK S FARM

S

weeping enough for the national model of a 4-H youth center and the regional model of an adult conference center, while still able to provide a tailored indulgence in a one-of-a-kind inn, a retreat from anything ordinary, tucked away and tucked in at Lone Oaks. For the wedding that acknowledges that while all weddings are special, few are special indeed. For the reunion that recognizes getting together should bring more together. For the party that treats every invitation as a privilege, every guest as an honoree, every dance as yours. Every morning is a canvas painted here, every day an original, every evening a completed work. Meals are farm to table, personal events, shared intimacies, promises made to the next. In a cabin over a waterfall or at the edge of a meadow, deep in a wood or high on a hill, in a canoe, on a terrace, on a whim, every accommodation is made for the most accommodating of experiences. WHILE IT CAN BE ALL THINGS, IT CAN STILL QUIETLY BE ALL ABOUT YOU.
