Advancing Women In Leadership
Special Issue Call for Papers Advancing Women in Leadership, the first on-line professional, refereed journal for women in leadership, announces a call for papers for a special issue focusing on Black women educators. Djanna Hill, will serve as guest editor for this special issue, Black Women Educators: Becoming and Being Leaders. Research indicates that the experiences of Black women educators involve racist and sexist practices by colleagues and students, as well as feelings of isolation, discrimination, and tokenism. Yet, while teaching and leading as an outsider, scholars also affirm the conscious effort by women of color to reject the status of victim that is an effect of multiple oppressions. For women of color, their resilience to continue to change people’s understandings about themselves, others and the world, despite simultaneous oppressions is seen in three ways: in their efforts as leaders, in their teaching practices, and in their active participation in the construction of enduring life stories. This call invites papers about Black women who have fought oppressions through their experiences as leaders, pedagogues, and scholars. It requests stories of the past as well as of the present. As we focus on Black women leaders, this call also invites papers about Black women who may not have been university professors, yet made significant contributions in education. This call also addresses the marginalization of Black women's voices in the professoriate while celebrating their content-based leadership. Scant research exists concerning the perspectives, experiences, and practices of Black women faculty in areas like Art, Business, Education, Engineering, History, Mathematics, or Science. Submissions to this special issue on Black Women Educators: Becoming and Being Leaders, should address these and other related questions:
What have been the experiences of Black women becoming and being faculty in areas such as: Art, Business, Education, Engineering, History, Medicine, or other? In what ways have Black women negotiated issues of race, class, gender, ability, and identity in their daily experiences? In what ways have the experiences of Black women informed future leadership, pedagogy, and scholarship? Manuscripts for this special issue must be received by May 15, 2005. Questions regarding this special issue, Black Women Educators: Becoming and Being Leaders, should be addressed to: Djanna Hill William Paterson University of New Jersey 973-720-2260 hilld@wpunj.edu Manuscripts should meet the following requirements: 1.
