Traveling might feel like a daunting task if you need to be more fit for it, and it gets tougher with extra warm clothes weighing you down. A basic level of functional fitness is imperative, and despite the delicious spread of food, you can stay healthy and active during your travels. Whether you are already fit or a happy couch potato, warming up and getting fit for travel must be on your priority list. Kick, punch, or blame us, but follow these foolproof ways to get in shape for travel.

Whether you are in shape or not, travel can have diverse impacts on people with different fitness levels. No matter how well-trained you are, that doesn’t help when you travel, nor does the act of travel for the sedentary. Expect to spend most of your leisurely vacation sitting on a transport, relaxing with a partner or friend with a calorie-laden drink to stay warm, or sampling local food. None of these are great sources

Winter can be harsh, and hotels and other accommodations sometimes close down specific amenities. So before you consider booking your stay, find out whether your destination or the property you will stay at offers you opportunities to work out.

Look for a pool, a garden with ample space, or a gym at warmer destinations. In colder places, find out indoor opportunities to work out. Also, see whether the region is flat or hilly or whether there are extreme altitudes; do you have to use local transportation, or could you walk? Every bit of this information is vital when you plan your trip.

of travel fitness unless you have hiking and walking activities planned. However, if you have been sedentary most of your waking hours, you must prep before a trip. Start walking every day a week before you travel. This should help you get into practice. Some aerobics or yoga could enhance your flexibility too.

43 EXPLORE LUXURY

A cool workout zone for your holiday

If you work out in a gym, then the best possible solution is to find one at the property you stay at or take a temporary membership at a gym close by. To avoid the cold outside, consider working out indoors as well. If you are at a warm destination, you can also find a calm and serene spot in the property garden, a beach, the balcony of your stay, or at a park to stretch your body or enjoy a short yet effective sesh of yoga.

A pre-planned travel workout routine

If you already have an exercise routine at home, try and build a modified version for travel. You can cut it down to a more plausible and manageable routine and add simple workouts. Go with stretching, aerobics, jump ropes, and strength training with the help of resistance bands. These enable you to carry props without eating up space in your baggage and inspire you to work out indoors when the weather does not permit a run outside.

44

A walk around the property or the town

Walk as much as you can. Walking helps warm the body, keeps you in shape, and offers the best tour of the destination. Some attractions would need public transportation, but there would be those where you can take a short or long walk. Walk briskly to make every step count, take breaks when you stretch, prep your body for such bursts of energy, and avoid cramping muscles. Wear layered clothing to help you adjust as you feel warmer with every step and a fitness tracker to keep you informed and motivated.

A new sport you always wanted to try

If your sedentary work life has been keeping you from a sport you are good at or wanted to try, then a vacay is the perfect chance to seize the opportunity. Be it skiing, snowshoeing, cycling, kayaking, or simply hiking, grab this chance to compensate for the lost hours.

A balanced nutrition

While it is easy to sway when you have that delectable spread of reds, greens, and the whiff of smoked something, it is sensible to stay focused on your goal. Stick to proteins, cut down on fatty drinks, and stay away from carbs as much as possible, perhaps once in two days. Look for accommodation with a kitchen or a property that respects special dietary requirements and ensures you get food the way you like.

Winter Fashion Trends to Look Out For

The days of relaxing in hot summer weather, sipping on ice water, and catching a tan are unfortunately distant memories, but there’s a sense of excitement in the chilly air as we dust off our ski boots and bring out our beanies. We may be packing away our light and summery clothes, but we’re certainly not packing away our fashion sense. On the contrary, we’re becoming even more stylish this winter, embracing new clothing trends while we explore new places. The most popular winter travel destinations often include freezing snow and icy air, making fashion a little harder to maintain. However, keeping a few things in mind while picking your new winter travel clothes will make a world of difference for both your comfort and style.

Dress ‘up’ this winter

A stylish and trendy coat is key to winter fashion, the staple of any cold-weather outfit. Easily dressed up or down, winter coats are perfect for all occasions, not to mention essential for staying warm. This season, faux fur and leather coats are at the forefront of tasteful looks. These materials are great for keeping warmth and are relatively light – therefore, easy to pack and comfortable to wear on travel adventures. Check out these popular Armani Exchange leather jackets and Camille Long Faux Fur Cocoon Coat.

Get sporty

If prepping for more adventurous and sporty trips, a shorter puffer or hooded jacket is the better-trending option. Puffer jackets such as the latest Adidas x Gucci hooded puffer or the Burberry Burniston Down puffer coat are fantastic at insulating body heat while keeping you looking cool and classy. They are also lightweight and easy to move in, perfect for active travelers who wouldn’t turn down a snowy hike or a chilly tobogganing trip.

Add some swank

Accessories are next on the list -- easy to pack, quick to put on and take off, and can be worn with various outfits. Trending this winter are big and bold scarves, adding a designer touch to your day. Specifically,

nylon scarves, such as the Gucci Quilted scarf, are great for keeping the cold at bay. The material is lightweight and durable, so it is easy to pack and wear throughout your travels.

Another trendy accessory to invest in this season are fingerless gloves. This accessory is very effective and convenient. Instead of taking your gloves off every time you need to use your phone (which, as photo-loving travelers, is many times a day), these gloves allow you to remain warm and be able-bodied for most of the day.

Feel the comfort

Last on the list of upcoming winter fashion trends are short-ankle wool effect boots by Gucci. In the past, knee-high boots have been the winner in colder weather as, logically, they provide the best coverage. However, with padded boots like this Prada padded nylon bootie, the material offers great warmth and a great look. It is much easier to move around. Not to mention, ankle boots are a lot easier to fit in a suitcase than bulky knee-high footwear that takes up half your space.

These trendy tips will allow you to pack and travel most effectively and stylishly as possible – staying warm and looking good this winter just became much easier.

Where We Went Skiing This Year

62

Nothing screams adventure quite like a vacation on the snowy slopes, speeding down mountains, sipping on a beer, and spending time in the great outdoors. Spending time at the Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort will undoubtedly become one of our most incredible memories, providing stories to share for years to come. Located in Colorado, USA, The Aspen Mountain Range is made up of four separate hills: Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, Aspen Mountain, and Buttermilk. This magnificent terrain offers 5,527 acres to explore – all with a single ski lift ticket! You’ll never tire of new and exciting skiing opportunities.

Our stay at Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort

When looking for lodging in this vast resort, there are options for every kind of traveler.

We stayed at The Inn at Aspen, arguably one of the most unique options, being the only hotel at the Buttermilk Mountain.

We also used the outdoor heated swimming pool and hot tubs to pamper ourselves and ended our day at the fire pit, warming ourselves to sustain the night!

We capitalized on the laid-back ski-in/ ski-out feature that brought the slopes quite literally to our doorstep. While we had our share of fun outdoors, the fitness enthusiasts in our team spent their morning at the fitness center.

63 EXPLORE LUXURY

The convenience of the location

The Inn’s proximity to Buttermilk Mountain is the cherry on top. This mountain has been named the best slope for beginners to learn or improve their skiing abilities. It caters to everyone, including children, families, and professionals looking for fun. It is also home to the notorious X Games held yearly, where almost 100 of the best athletes compete on the slopes in the biggest snow event in the USA! Even better, it’s completely free to attend, the perfect entertainment for the whole family!

Aspen Mountain is the slope to ski if you are a braveheart who doesn’t shy away from challenges. This mountain is one of the steeper ski runs, catering to those looking for an adrenaline rush and those who know what they’re doing. Aspen Mountain rises to 3,300 feet and can be summited with the great Silver Queen Gondola ski lift, perfect for a quick trip to the top (followed by a speedy ski down again!)

64
The challenge we loved to face

Some other fun things we did

Although skiing offered great fun, we wanted to explore more and check out all other kinds of entertainment, which was easy to find! But if you still want to stick to the slopes but want to try something new, you can ride the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster or go tubing with the whole family. The Breathtaker is a thrilling outdoor rollercoaster, winding through the snowy hills at up to 28 miles per hour.

For a gentler ride, take a tube down Elk Camp slope, which stays open past dark – allowing unforgettable night-time rides on illuminated slopes.

You can also go snow biking, ice-skating, or have a romantic evening dinner on the mountain.

The food and drinks we relished

Our vacation extended even further, beyond the snow and slopes of Snowmass. We joined the après ski activities and tasted the drinks that Colorado had in store for us. We did not forget to indulge our tastebuds at one of the exquisite restaurants in the resort. So when you crave some feel-good food and atmosphere, visit Sam’s for a sit-down meal with beautiful views. This sophisticated Italian restaurant serves all the best comfort food to warm you up, along with their signature Negroni Spritz for the final touch.

Another must-try is Element 47, a fine-dining restaurant serving locally sourced food and offering rich wine and art as well.

The must-do we do at all destinations

We engaged our energy to shop during our last spare moments among all the adventurous activities and fancy food tasting. It is not a surprise that Aspen town boasts stores for ski gear, but we were surprised at the range of high-end fashion, fine art, and local food and wine available in the market.

If we have to vote, we will do so for Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (perfect for those with a sweet tooth) and The Boutique at Little Nell (the best place to find souvenirs and gifts to commemorate your trip).

Overall, Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort is the ideal location for a getaway for every kind of person. There’s no end to this resort's fun, from skiing to swimming to shopping and more! Book your next ski trip to Aspen, and you won’t be disappointed!

Only a brave heart can be at ease at such a high altitude, taking in the brilliant view of fairy chimneys and tasting the freedom of birds. Let romance bloom as you feel the pit in the stomach, albeit for reasons more than one. Once you land, remember to soak in the allure of the Turkish hammam at a luxury cave hotel, gawking at the gorgeous sunset over Goreme Valley.

106

Scale the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro

Another fantastic bucket list idea to accomplish is to climb the incredible Mount Kilimanjaro. It is no mean feat if you achieve this because this mountain is quite challenging. It is known that 50 percent of climbers experience mountain sickness while trying to scale the high altitude. One must be a regular climber or train themselves before committing to this trip. Zanzibar is a beauty to behold once you are here. Rent a villa in Nungwi and enjoy morning walks, sunsets, and relaxing spa treatments.

Challenge yourself to a luxury safari in Africa

When extreme fun is your thing, you must consider booking a mighty intriguing luxury safari. If you do love this activity, book your tickets to no other than safaris in Tanzania or Kenya, among the many that Africa has to offer. You can never refute the awe and the surprises Masai Mara or Serengeti brings to you and your loved one. Enjoy the gorgeous views of the game reserve, watching the lion nab its prey, or the friendly giraffe chewing on the leaves from the highest end of the trees, and may be cute animals too. Treat your beloved to a luxury safari experience as you reside in a deluxe tent with plush beds and pillows, outdoor showers, hot tubs, and fetching views.

Dive into the crystal clear waters of Maldives

This is a must-visit destination that most travelers consider for an exotic getaway. The Maldives offer single atoll properties that extend facilities such as parasailing, island hopping, surfing, and adventurous scuba diving. So if you and your beau are not just there for a relaxing time, but to make something out of it, Maldives is your best bet. Go for the over-water bungalows for the best impact. A suite with a glass floor is the ideal accommodation, offering ample opportunities to make you feel like an aquatic creature yourself.

Float aside the sting rays in Grand Cayman

The Caribbean is a favorite destination for most, as it is for us. Screaming luxury and adventure, Grand Cayman Islands bring forth amazing to-dos, sunbathing on the beautiful beaches, scuba diving opportunities, caves to explore, and time to hang out with the sting rays. Book your stay at one of the most esteemed hotels worldwide and in the Cayman Islands, The Ritz Carlton is an extraordinary experience on 7 Mile Beach where you can take time off at the spa or set on a sunset sail.

Let your guard down at Krabi, Thailand

Only a couple who loves the spirit of adventure and is willing to take it to the extreme would love to explore the eastern part of the world. Rub shoulders with the polar bears

If Antarctica receives much attention, the Artic Circle steals the show. Although winters are mostly foggy and snowy in this region, a little later in the year, you can surely walk with the polar bears and their cubs. However, during the winters, or the onset of spring, you can indeed chase the aurora borealis and capture a few snaps of the phenomena. Usually surrounded by wildlife, you can use the tundra vehicles from your lodging to search for black bears, polar bears, moose, or wolves. However, at the property, you will remain fenced and can enjoy watching the day pass by.

Tread the depths of South Africa

Although safaris are Africa's most alluring bucket list activity, the southern tip of the continent does not disappoint. Here, along with your loved one, you can dive with the white sharks, ride a horse among the zebras, kayak past the crocs and hippos, zipline the rainforest, or search for the turtle eggs in the wee hours. Only settle for a room with a view, that too set amidst the luxury here. You may prefer the privacy Birkenhead House in Hermanus offers as a couple.
