As many of you may know, Andrew and I have just recently taken over The Advertiser magazine from Tracey and Steve. The Advertiser is the longest established English language magazine in the area, so it is a great honour to be part of its production. We would like to thank Tracey for allowing us this opportunity and, especially, for her continued help and support. Her shoes are big ones to fill and I sincerely hope that we don’t let her, or indeed you, our readers, down. We wish Tracey and Steve every happiness and success in their future endeavours.

I would like to say a big thank you to all of the editorial contributors this month. We have some great new articles included in this issue and plan lots more over the coming months. To all of our advertisers, old and new, a massive thank you for your support. To any of you who I have not already met through Pronto Printing, my existing business, I hope to get to meet you very soon. Finally a quick note to our readers. We would really like to hear from you. What would you like to see more of in The Advertiser magazine? We have lots of ideas and plans but ultimately it is your opinion that counts. Tell us what you think. Whilst we cannot promise to publish all of them, please feel free to submit your stories, jokes, photos and events. You never know, you may just end up in The Advertiser magazine. Have a fantastic October. Cheryl & Andrew

A NEW GENERAL ELECTION CALLED FOR NOVEMBER
The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Malaga, for the time being, has requested a report from the Ministry of Health on the possible effects on the health of those affected. The drugs were distributed by a Malaga-based company called FarmaQuímica Sur.

Múltiples) which also include basic IT training and senior exercise sessions. The Memory Workshops are held throughout the year in two terms, with a break during the summer and the current second session for this year will conclude at the end of November. Teacher, Claudia Balázc, a specialist psychologist from Social Services, concentrates on cognitive processes, memory techniques, concentration, language and mental agility with her group. Ana García highlighted the town’s concern for the town’s seniors, a sector of the population which is on the increase. For this reason, the Council have set out to offer different initiatives that focus on

shutters.
Mojácar Council, in conjunction with Almeria Provincial Council and the Community Social Services, is running an Active Aging programme for residents who are aged 60 and above. One project running for a number of years in the town is the Memory Workshop, which aims to promote active living in later years by improving quality of life through mental stimulation and social interaction. Ana García, Mojácar’s Third Age Councillor, attended the first session and stressed how important it was for the older generation to take advantage of her department’s free classes and workshops (all held at Centro de Usos
A fresh general election has been called for November 10th, following an absence of deals, coalitions or tactical abstentions from Spain’s political leaders (Give Wikipedia its due, the election is already posted here). Campaigning will be shorter and cheaper than usual, with the official campaign starting on Friday, November 1st. In theory, votes for the smaller parties (who are never going to govern, anyway) might dry up as voters are tired of the squabbling and return towards a traditional two-party system, but equally,
voters may be tired of voting at all. We can expect all the parties to spend their energies in criticising all the other parties for their evasions over the coming weeks. The chances are that the PSOE will gain seats, but probably still need the support of either a weakened Podemos, or – less likely – a depleted Ciudadanos. Before then, there are a few other political milestones to observe – first of all, in Gibraltar where snap elections will be held just two weeks before the Brexit (on October 17th). Following on
from a non-event in Luxembourg (well, better not make a fuss about this), the Great British Brexit itself is scheduled for October 31st (just in time for Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th). Will things be the same as they were following all this tumult? From businessovertapas.com A weekly subscription newsletter containing useful news about Spain Also on Facebook
The Fiesta de Cascamorras
WHICH TOOK PLACE FROM THE 6TH TO THE 9TH OF SEPTEMBER The fiesta of Cascamorras is undoubtedly one of the funniest and dirtiest parties in Spain. The Cascamorras is a clown-like character from the village of Guadix who wears brightly coloured clothes and attempts to steal the valued statue of the Virgen de la Piedad from the neighbouring village
of Baza on the 6th September. The locals try to prevent the Cascamorras’ attempt by throwing thick black paint on him and chasing him all over the village. The rules of the game say that if the Cascamorras is able to steal the Virgin without getting
Nevertheless, the Cascamorras is always forced to return to Guadix with empty hands. The defeat antagonises the locals so much that the paint throwing manhunt continues and the poor clown has to run again.

How many times have you heard people say that? They’re impatient to want to arrive as soon as possible. When the plane lands people leap up and start grabbing bags, standing up while the doors haven’t even been opened yet, while others sit quietly and calmly and wait. Everyone gets off the plane eventually, So why stress? What is this life all about? We start off as infants, finding wonder all around us. Everything is new and interesting, and our parents teach us about this amazing and, sometimes scary big world we have been born into. We find wonder in so many things, not just toys, as we all remember striving to find the perfect toy for our children only to watch them discard it and play with the box! The happiness is in the child’s imagination, not the toy. Children play with the toy, accompanied by sounds, beeps, grunts etc, so the toy is just the stimulus for the imagination. Happiness is simple at this stage of life. Then we go to school and start to measure ourselves against our school friends, comparing our appearance, and the insecurities pile in. Am I too fat, too thin? Dissatisfaction with our bodies. We start to make bonds of friendship, and feel proud of our achievements, the world stops enchanting us as much and we are distracted by other people’s opinions. We become self-conscious of our clothes, our faces, our bodies, and of course as if that isn’t enough to boggle the brain, love rears it’s horns and again, we seek happiness in a relationship. How crippling those first kisses can be to the inexperienced and the shy! So, years pass, and we become absorbed in our careers, our security, our homes, cars, possessions, and our own families. Yes, we still notice the sunsets, but too often we are distracted by everyday routine. Work, shop, cook, tv, cuddles and sleep. We forget about the beauty around us. We become somewhat distracted by life. Life gets in the way of living ! We strive to have the life we were shown since we were children. Study hard, get a good job, save your money for a rainy day, have a family, get old, retire, die! Two weeks holiday and we excitedly dash off to relax, feel the sun on our bodies, swim in the sea etc. We can finally enjoy nature, and step out of our worries for a few days. Happiness! Two weeks later you are back in work, and quickly forget about the holiday until next year. What a back to front way of living. I have always told my sons to find something you love doing, and get paid to do it. We work for such a huge portion of our lives in the vague hope that we will have a happy retirement. I suggest you start living now, don’t wait until you retire to start your life. Our modern world is so very good at separating us and keeping us distracted from our friends and family. Everything you can possibly want can be found at the click of a key online, but what is wrong with actually going to a shop and choosing what you want ? Many people enjoy going shopping with their friends and shopping is the new recreational pastime for families. This magazine is full of advertisements for small businesses and I will always choose them over the big corporations. You can find everything you need in this magazine, and buying from the
retailers improves your local area. How lovely to have a stroll around for an hour or so, stop for something to eat, have a beer or a coffee admiring the views. , bumping into friends, and dodging into a shop to avoid others! This modern world of instant purchase, same day delivery is not for me. I refuse to give up human contact for the sake of speed. We can build a relationship with our local businesses, recognise and chat to the staff, share a greeting. You can’t do that with the Amazon delivery man. I am not anti-technology. I’m anti isolation. How many of you know the names of the people next door? We have forgotten about the sense of community we grew up with. Has it improved our lives to simply buy online? In the UK I was the manager of a huge garden centre, and of course we built Santa’s grotto and had a mail box for the children to post their wish list to Santa. It was so sad to see how many children had just been given an Argos catalogue which they had cut out pictures of what they wanted. We stop them believing in magical things and instead teach them to worship Argos and Amazon. We can choose to go out and support our local businesses, which improves the look of our local area, instead of empty shops and businesses, or we can just buy from the big boys and watch our local traders gradually disappear. Profit before people helps no one except the banks. So, Are we there yet? The destination is happiness. The point of this article is to be happy all of your life, and not just fleetingly. Let’s stop and smile at people, open doors, say thank you more often. A smile from a stranger when you are feeling low is priceless. Sit down and reconsider what you are doing, how you are doing it, and most importantly, why you are doing it. Then ask yourself…
AM I THERE YET ? I hope your answer is yes.

Gastronomy & Cooking
Well autumn is now knocking on the door, the weather has cooled down and the nights will be drawing in - sounds quiet miserable really. Fear not, this now gives you the time to create some wonderful hearty flavoursome dishes using some great seasonal produce. So I visited the incredible food market in the city of Almeria during September, wanting to check out the wonderful produce, seek inspiration, and to see what was available now and for the next month or so. The Mercado Central de Almería is a building designed by architect Antonio Martínez Pérez in 1892, it is a fine example of the iron architecture situated in an area teeming with cafes and tapas bars. The market is set over two floors. You enter the market from the street and go straight into the bustling main hall where there are 50 stands with fresh fruit & vegetable counters laden with seasonal produce, and some unusual fruits including dragon fruits, lychees and figs by the tray load. There is also a selection of fresh meat counters selling beautiful Iberico pork, freshly made morcilla, chorizo and other local delicacies. These include sausages enriched with egg yolk - which are golden yellow in colour, or blanquo sausages pale in contrast. Stalls bursting with olives, cornichons, smoked and dried fish, salted bacalao, cheeses from all over Spain, and Jamons hanging by the dozen. Taking the escalator, you head down to the lower ground floor which is home to 37 stands all selling the most staggering array and choice of
fish and shellfish. There are red prawns which are a local delicacy commanding prices of up to 52Euro per kilo, magnificent whole tuna and merluza are all displayed proudly. I spent some time talking to the vegetable stall holders trying to establish which fruit and vegetables are typically now in season and from the region of Almeria, and those which are available all year. Here is a selection : Beetroot and Aubergines - available all year Pumpkins - available now and through October Spinach - from now until May Pomegranates - in abundance through these autumn months Mangtout, Courgettes tiny ones with the flowers still intact Fennel bulbs – a true vegetable of the Mediterranean Chirimga - known as custard fruit, simply cut in half scooping out the flesh and avoiding the black pips Membrillo – Quince these are high in pectin so great for jams and jellies Avocados - are packed full of potassium and rich in vitamins It was difficult to choose a recipe incorporating such amazing ingredients, but I have to say I love this dish, I make it at home and it is popular with my clients too.
Tasty beef tagine with pumpkin and pomegranates Ingredients 600 g diced braising/stewing steak 1 sweet onion ½ a bunch of fresh coriander olive oil 1 x 400g tin of chickpeas 1 x 400g tin of plum tomatoes 800 ml vegetable stock 800g pumpkin 100g dried apricots 2 tablespoons flaked almonds SPICE RUB 1 level tablespoon ras el hanout spice mix 1 level tablespoon ground cumin 1 level tablespoon ground cinnamon 1 level tablespoon ground ginger Method Mix all the spice rub ingredients together in a small bowl with a good pinch of sea salt and black pepper. Put the beef into a large bowl, massage it with the spice rub, then cover with clingfilm and place in the fridge for a few hours.
Serves up to 4 hungry people
When you’re ready to cook, peel and finely chop the onion Heat a generous lug of oil in a tagine or casserole pan over a medium heat, add the meat and fry for 5 minutes to seal. Add the onion and fry for a further 5 minutes. Drain and tip in the chickpeas, followed by the tomatoes, breaking them up with a spoon, then pour in half of the stock and stir well. Bring to the boil, then cover and reduce to a low heat for 90 minutes. Meanwhile, deseed and chop the pumpkin into 5cm chunks, then roughly chop the apricots. Toast the almonds in a dry frying pan until lightly golden, then tip into a bowl. When the time’s up, add the diced pumpkin, prunes and remaining stock. Give everything a gentle stir, then pop the lid back on and continue cooking for another 60-90 minutes. At this stage, remove the lid and check the consistency. If it seems a bit too runny, simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, more with the lid off – the beef should be really tender and flaking apart now, check the flavours & season accordingly. Scatter the pomegranate seeds, coriander leaves and toasted almonds over the tagine. Serve
with cous- cous ,a pile of creamy mash or some simple flatbreads. Enjoy this truly hearty tasty dish ……

Children display certain signs and symptoms that they have an intollerance to a particular food or substance, much before an actual allergic disease develops. It is important for parents, teachers and relatives of children to observe these early warning signs and contact an allergy specialist. This will help prevent the child from developing serious allergic diseases and can avoid physical and mental developmental problems. Having a child with a serious allergy or allergies can lead to constant stress in parents, which will not only be mental, but also physical and financial. Classical allergic diseases in children are Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis, Eczema, Urticaria but spotting the EARLY SIGNS sooner means the child can be diagnosed and treated earlier. The early signs are things that parents see daily but may not realise that there is anything unusual, and so, just ignore them. Only when the child has developed more severe symptoms and they seek profesional advice, do parents realise that their child has been exhibiting most of the early warning signs for some time. What are the eARLY warning SIGNS & SYMPTOMS OF ALLERGies?

RED EARS: Children develop red ears after taking food they have an intollerance or allergy to or after being exposed to pollens, molds or house dust mites if they are allergic to these. RED CHEEKS: They develop red cheeks after exposure to allergens and parents are unaware that their rosy cheeked child is displaying an early warning sign that they have an allergy or intollerance. EYE CIRCLES & EYE WRINKLES: Allergic children develop circles arround eyes and eye wrinkles NOSE RUBBING: These children are continuously rubbing the nose and develop crease on upper side of nose called Shiners BED WETTING: Allergic children have bed wetting for several years even after nappy training and this may continue even after 15 yrs of age. They are normally allergic to milk or another food and once the allergy is
treated, the problem goes away. BEHAVORIAL PROBLEMS: Allergies can cause behavioral problems in children. It is important to note that these early warning signs and/or behavioral problems will not be constantly present in the child. You will only observe these signs when the child is exposed to allergens. For example if the child is allergic to milk or wheat they will develop these warning signs when they eat milk or wheat, but return to normal when an allergy vaccine is given to them, or when these foods are eliminated from their diet. Memory and Concentration: The child may be very intelligent but very slow in class. This is because the allergy affects the memory and concentration. Restlessness & Hyperactive: Allergic children are typically restless and hyperactive. They cannot sit or stay still or quiet. Irritable and Aggressive: Such children are crying without apparent reason, they become easily irritable, will bite other children and even parents. They may become abusive and aggressive and can hit another child with whatever they have in hand. They can even damage or injure themselves. They suddenly remove their clothes and/or nappies. In attentive and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD): Some children are slow, they become inattentive. If you tell them something they will look blank, but once effect of allergy is gone, they return to normal. However if the child is continuously consuming the foods they are allergic to, then this behavour will be continuous. Just looking at your child and observing can help you to protect your child. Depression: The child may have dark blue, black or red eye circles. These children often act as if spaced out and some appear always sleepy or tired, others are fidgety and cannot stand still. They can’t concentrate on their books or they cannot follow directions given to them. This type of inattentive behavior is seen after eating artificially colored beverages or cereals, candies,
pop corns, corn products, chocolates, peanut butter, tomato products like pizza, milk or dairy products, bakery products, which contain additives or preservatives and apple, grape or orange juice. These foods can cause hyperactivity, depression, fatigue, headache, abdominal discomfort, asthma or hay fever. Other symptoms displayed by children with allergies to foods, aero allergens and chemicals can be: Stuffiness or sniffling Clucking throat sounds or throat clearing Coughing or wheezing Itchy watery eyes Swollen eye lids Puffy bags below eyes Swollen cracked lips Itchy skin rashes, especially in the arm or leg creases Frequent hearing loss after frequent ear infections Sudden ear pain or ringing in ears Recurrent headaches Recurrent leg aches or muscle aches. The child complains of pains in limbs after playing. They are not still and start moving their hands or their legs up and down or sideways rapidly. Recurrent intestinal symptoms of nausea, bloating, pain, belching, halitosis, diarhoea or constipation. Unexplained facial pallor Extreme ticklishness

MACS is your local charity for cancer support. We are a fully registered and financially transparent association. MACS is funded by our local communities and all monies raised stay here in Spain helping the people who need it most. People diagnosed with cancer anywhere in the world face many challenges that may leave them feeling overwhelmed, afraid and alone. If diagnosis or treatment takes place in another country this is an added difficulty to cope with as not being a native Spanish speaker can cause added stress. MACS provide practical
and emotional support to individuals with cancer including their families, during and after the treatment period. We support people with all kinds of cancer, from all nationalities of all ages in the Almeria region. MACS has been helping cancer patients and their families for over 12 years. During those years the services we offer have grown and we have supported almost 600 patients and also their families at that time. Our group offers different parts of support, which we hope will meet the individual needs of people at all stages of cancer treatment or remissions, from diagnosis through to follow up care and social support. As a cancer support group we are designed to provide a confidential atmosphere where cancer patients and cancer survivors can discuss the challenges that accompany the illness with others who may have experienced the same challenges. We do like to make sure we cater for everyone and at present we always meet monthly. It is important for people to find
Crystal Light Therapy Facial Reflexology Hopi Ear Candling an atmosphere that is comfortable and meets their individual needs. While the 6 shops and the wonderful volunteers are incredible in their support, people do not always recognise that MACS is working daily with patients. MACS is not just a fundraising tool, but we are a frontline charity trying to make the journey for our patients and families as easy as possible. Nobody should fight this battle alone, but unfortunately many people are. All donations made to the group go towards helping our patients of today and any money left over by the end of the year gets put in to our savings account. The reason we choose to save our money is because we have an end goal that we one day hope to reach. That goal would be to have our own fully operational Hospice in the Almeria region of Spain. This area of Spain is in need of a hospice to care and focus on keeping patients as comfortable as possible and allowing them and their family members to remain together in the comfort and dignity of safe surroundings. We hope to one day achieve our dream of having our very own up and running hospice with a team of medical and health care professionals, who address all aspects of a patients cancer illness with importance on controlling and reducing pain and any discomfort. A hospice will reduce the stress and ease family anxiety knowing that their loved one has 24h care, from companionship to their favourite food. The most important element of MACS’s future hospice is to completely respect a patients wishes. This is an essential component of hospice care allowing families to focus on what really matters
instead of the extensive procedures of a hospital environment by spending quality and precious time concentrating on things that are important to them.

The Amazing Troll-Man, is a comedian called Wesley Metcalfe. He has, over the past few years, created a number of facebook accounts and called them “customer support”. By changing the profile picture of the account to the logo of various large companies, he fools unsuspecting unhappy customers of the company to send him messages with their complaints. He then proceeds to interact with customers in a hilariously funny and often rude way. The customers, shocked by the cheek of ´The company’s customer service’ and, completely unaware that they are really communicating with “The Amazing Troll Man” usually react with a righteous outrage that only adds to the hilarity. With the permission of The Amazing Troll Man, we have selected a few examples for you here and, will bring you some more next month.
Police Called To Stop Massive Game Of Hide And Seek At Ikea Police were called in to stop a massive game of hide and seek at Ikea yesterday in Glasgow last month. Officers rushed out to the branch of the furniture store in after reports of people turning up to the shop and hiding in cupboards, fridges and beds. The bizarre story comes after more than 2,000 people signed up to a Facebook event set up to take the childhood game into Glasgow’s branch of the Swedish megastore. Another 10,000 enthusiasts also stated they were ‘interested’ in taking part in the event. The management of the store got wind of what was going on. Facebook users who has expressed interest in the event began posting comments saying they had witnessed police turning people away at the store’s entrance. A spokeswoman for Police Scotland confirmed that five officers attended the store to assist staff before the game was abandoned. That does sound like a lot of fun. Perhaps we should arrange a trip to the Murcia branch??

A Spanish teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine. “House” for instance, is feminine: “la casa.” “Pencil,” however, is masculine: “el lapiz.” A student asked, “What gender is ‘computer’?” Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether “computer” should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation. The men’s group decided that “computer” should definitely be of the feminine gender (“la ordenador“), because: 1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic; 2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else; 3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; 4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it. (THIS GETS BETTER!) The women’s group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine (“el ordenador“), because: 1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on; 2. They have a lot of data but still can’t think for themselves; 3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; 4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model. The women won!

Paws Animal Shelter WHAT DOES IT COST
PAWS-PATAS animal shelter exists because of volunteers and continuous donations, be it from our 4 outlets in Mojácar, Turre and Las Buganvillas, fund raising events or financial offers. In order to operate, the shelter requires an average of 9,500€ per month which covers basic running costs and vet bills. Some of the regular costs at the shelter are: telephone/internet 42€, water 200€ and electricity 385€. The costs below show an average amount spent on each animal, and sometimes we find 8 kittens and 6 puppies abandoned at our gates overnight requiring urgent attention and medication over a period of time. DOGS: An initial consultation is always undertaken with a vet which costs 7.40€, blood tests are required at 35€. Puppies need vaccinations adding up to 88€ and then the dogs are covered for rabies, microchipped and issued with a passport for homing purposes which costs 48€. The average cost of neutering a dog is 80€. Grand total per dog is 258.40€ CATS: The same procedures are followed, although neutering costs are smaller, males cost 52€ and a female 73€. Grand total required for each cat is 217.50€ Every euro we spend is accounted for and logged. The above does not cover the cost of maintaining our van or indeed the constant upkeep of the shelter. We are desperately trying to rebuild some of the old kennels and raise funds towards building a new quarantine block. Obviously without the help of volunteers who work in the outlets and at the shelter...PAWS-PATAS would not exist. Apart from their precious time they receive no payment for petrol money when taking volunteers from the shelter shopping or generally running around with various daily errands that are required. Organising fund raising events, collecting raffle prizes and keeping profile awareness via general and social media and constantly aware of maintaining transparency in all our activities and where each precious euro is spent. We are always in need of volunteers to help in so many different ways, even administration work which can be done from home. Environmental News Summer for CCA has been a busy few months. We made the most of the warm days and the water, by kayaking the rocky shoreline to remote beaches, snorkelling, cleaning the beaches, dolphin watching from Mazzaron, meeting up for ‘plastic free’ picnics, as well as scuba diving the underwater mountain ranges and the marine parks in the area. All in all, it was a lot of fun - and helped share the beauty of the marine world we are lucky enough to have here. There was some bad news along the way with a number of dolphins, turtles and two whales sadly washing up dead. But Equinac continued to do their fabulous work, rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing
two turtles back into Cabo de Gata marine park. For the first time for over 100 years a turtle nested and laid 69 eggs in the region of Murcia. It will be 2 months before we find out if the eggs successfully hatch. Fingers crossed! Now that most of the tourists have headed home, and the heat is a little less offensive - we will be back out cleaning up. Please follow Coastal Cleaners Andalucia on Facebook to see future events, including day trips and excursions. This month we will also be promoting our new range of Eco friendly products. Beautiful bags made from Coffee sacks
destined for landfill, and 2020 Wall Planners for organising the year ahead. They are sponsored by local businesses, designed by CCA, and in association with Equinac. The sales will help raise valuable funds for both parties. Priced at 5€, 1€ of each sale will go directly to Equinac. They will be available from Forget-me-not in Las Buganvillas and the Spectrum FM office in the parque commercial, Mojacar. You can find out how to reduce your contribution to the plastic problem, and about the work we do - by searching for Coastal Cleaners Andalucia online.

Environmental News WOULD YOU LIKE PLASTIC WITH THAT? Imagine ordering a delicious, wellprepared slab of fish from your favourite restaurant. Then, after a couple of bites, you cut through the next soft and tender section, only to see something a bit odd. It’s a bit blue and a bit shiny. You slowly pull it out, like a magician pulling out a never ending handkerchief and you find that it’s a strip of plastic. Yummy! Enough for everyone! Unfortunately, we’re hearing more and more stories of this nature. Oysters with micro-plastics already prepared inside, turtles trending with plastic spoons lodged in their noses and birds building nests out of plastic trash, or worse, feeding their chicks with it. Someone tell them that that’s not up-cycling! Plastics were popularized around the 1960’s with techniques improving and the chemicals required becoming cheaper. It’s a scary thought that nearly every bit of plastic ever made still exists to this day. It’s
like herpes, it just doesn’t go away no matter how hard you try not to look at it. PLASTIC FANTASTIC Let us not confuse issues though, plastic was and is a fantastic invention and can do amazing things in every field. From medicine and medical aids to everyday household items like televisions, microwaves and your mobile phone to allimportant Happy Meal toys! Wait, that last one sounds suspiciously useless. The problem is that plastic is usually constructed to last, usually up to 5 centuries. Sure, it can break down into smaller bits but it doesn’t decompose. It doesn’t return to the earth like a stick, a rotten apple or aunt Betty’s toy-poodle after you accidently backed over it a couple of years ago. NEW PLASTICS Companies have started taking notice that there is a movement out there that people might not want to completely ruin the planet. There’s been some improvements in reducing plastic bags or having plastic bags that are biodegradable. It can be termed biodegradable as long as it breaks down with the help of microorganisms,
but there is no time limit and it can still leach toxic materials. It’s not sounding so green now. Compostable material however, shouldn’t leave any toxins behind and breaks down to carbon dioxide, water and biomass. This sounds much better, right? Well, it only works if you place it in the correct place. Compostable plastics won’t degrade in landfill. They may not even degrade in your home compost, but likely need to be sent to an industrial composting facility. A what? Exactly. If you’re thinking this is the answer, I would suggest you consider the 7 different types of plastic we currently recycle and how terrible the actual figures of recycled materials really are. Combine Trump and Boris’s abilities to run governments, and that’s about how successful recycling has been to date.
The conclusion to this big build up will be found in the next edition, should the editor keep me around that long. Maisie’s pups - Mary, Mungo and Midge Assumed date of birth December 2008. MARY - spayed. Not nervous or afraid of people, good on a lead, loves being picked up and cuddled. She is a very sweet girl but she will nip if you pull her hair as in grooming etc. Not sure if she would chase cats or escape like her mother and brothers but she seems more obedient. MUNGO - not neutered. Not nervous or afraid of people, good on a lead, loves being picked up and cuddled. Will chase cats. MIDGE - neutered. Not nervous or afraid of people, laid back, good on a lead, loves tummy tickles, being picked up and cuddled. Will chase cats.

2020 SEAT el-Born
electric car revealed at Geneva Motor Show
The Dames in Spain started in 1985 by a small group of ladies meeting in their own homes. Later with group numbers increasing and a need to make it more official Dames in Spain was born. Their aim to promote friendship and help
and later introduced fundraising to help charities. To date over 20 organisations have benefited from fundraising, such as 3rd EDAD, Macs, AECC, Alzheimer, Heart foundation and emergency disasters, Red Cross etc.
dames programme
Dames have organised Garden Party’s, hosted BBC Gardeners Question Time, produced their own cookbook, Arranged day trips, short holidays, International Women’s Days, Bowling Days, Christmas fairs. Demonstrations and speakers.

Meetings to be held in “Sensations” at 11am the 3rd Thursday in the month unless otherwise stated
SEAT has revealed its forthcoming all-electric hatchback at the Geneva Motor Show. The new model, called el-Born, will be based on the same underpinnings as the Volkswagen Golf-sized I.D. hatchback and is expected to have a range of 260 miles when it goes on sale in 2020. Both cars will help form the next wave of electric hatchbacks that offer more range than ever, so there aren’t any genuine rivals currently on sale. The el-Born is clearly based on the VW I.D. but adds some SEATspecific design features such as the full-width light bar connecting the sharp rear lights, which is similar to the new SEAT Tarraco SUV and the Cupra Formentor concept. It looks sportier than many electric cars currently on sale, thanks to 20-inch wheels and a large boot spoiler. The interior of the SEAT el-Born will offer a similar amount of space as the SEAT Leon hatchback. With the front pillars pushed further forward, the interior should feel large and airy. Inside, it’s clear that the el-Born is essentially a production car in waiting. It features a large 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, which ‘floats’ on top of the centre console, and a new version of SEAT’s configurable digital dashboard that replaces analogue dials. This model also features sporty-looking one-piece seats, which should offer plenty of support through quick corners. In price terms, the el-Born is set to cost around the same as a SEAT Ateca. The company also suggested that the model could be offered with two power outputs, along with over-the-air software updates. For more information on the Seat el-Born visit www.carbuyer.co.uk
