Last Friday morning, Australians awoke to news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s passing at her Scotland home, Balmoral Castle.
Both State and Federal Parliaments’ sitting weeks have been postponed along with other formal processes as a sign of respect for the late Queen.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said this is undertaken as a mark of respect while a period of mourning is observed and is in line with the Australian Parliament. “Through her eight visits, she celebrated our state with Queenslanders and provided reassurance in the aftermath of natural disasters,” she said. “She created many wonderful memories here, and will be remembered with fondness by millions of Queenslanders.” Some might remember when Queen Elizabeth II visited Oakey during her first visit to Australia in 1954 as part of her Regional Tour. Federal member for Groom Garth Hamilton spoke highly of the late Queen. “A life of service has come to a peaceful end,” he said. “Her grace and dignity were ever present features of the modern world. “Her steady leadership as reliable as the rising sun. “We have all benefited from her example of how to put others needs before our own, how to serve even during times of personal hardship and loss. “She showed us that whilst the world may change around us, our basic principles, those of decency and love of our common humanity, need not.” On Monday afternoon, the State Executive Council joined Her Excellency The Governor at Government House and Parliament House as she proclaimed King Charles III our new Head of State. Queensland Governor Dr Jeannette Young said, “On behalf of the people of Queensland, Graeme and I extend our deepest condolences to the Royal Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip arriving at Oakey airport in 1954. Family following the death - Photo, State Library of Queensland of our Head of State, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second,” she said. “The strength of the bond between our people and our Sovereign was evident during Her Majesty’s eight remarkably successful visits to our State. “Since becoming Queensland’s Head of State in 1952, Her Majesty has been a powerful symbol of continuity and stability, a peerless exemplar of duty and service. “As Queensland’s 27th Governor, I join with all the people of Queensland in mourning Her Majesty’s death. “May her wisdom and calm assurance forever remain a source of strength, encouragement and solace to us all. “God Save The King.” ABOVE LEFT: Pat State Member for Weir at Parliament Condamine Pat Weir said House in Brisbane on he was honoured to sign Monday standing next the Condolence Book to a portrait of Queen for Queen Elizabeth II at Elizabeth II.
