50th Wedding Anniversary

TREVOR & SONYA STEINMULLER

Retired priest Father Kerry Costigan presents a special blessing from Pope Francis to Trevor and Sonya Steinmuller on occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Well-known local residents and ongoing contributors to the Oakey RSL Sub-branch, Trevor and Sonya Steinmuller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, December 10.

The couple first met when they were neighbours in Toowoomba. Back then, Sonya, who was a hairdresser, was flatting with a few friends and Trevor was living in his family’s home with ambitions of joining the defence forces.

It was a quick courtship for the pair with Trevor proposing over the phone to Sonya while he was away doing army training. The pair now share two children and three grand-children. Sonya says the couple have had a good life so far filled with a few “ups and downs” and not too many fights.

“We have always done everything together - trips, biking, cruising,” she said. “We share everything and have never thought of separating.”

Trevor says the secret to their long and happy marriage is “learning to say, ‘yes dear’” as well as getting into the habit early of thinking and planning as a couple.
