Dallas Police Sgt. Keitric Jones of the Northeast Patrol Division says thieves target anything of value in vehicles, and owners should do anything possible to secure their vehicles.

“Park your vehicle in a high-traffic area so that if a thief attempts to take your property, someone may see the offense and report the theft,” he says. “Take, lock, and hide. If you do not need your property, then leave it at home. Thieves are aware of where items are commonly kept in vehicles; they know where to look at and take property.”
